Original Graphics, Palettes and HDMA Showoff Thread

Hey, everyone's graphics look really great so far! I'm kinda surprised to see we still have a lot of people who does graphics.

Anyways:

Anything you don't see in that screenshot is here.

This is my latest drawing. So far. My style is about drawing something that would fit with SMAS graphics, so you might notice some similarities on the style #ab{:P}. Sadly, that's already two GFX slots.
Hey, that looks great! I love it. Though, I don't think that the ice blocks don't really look like ice...
Also, are the trees copies of the ones in the background? #ab{:LOL:}
@Dr.Tapeworm: Look's nice, but I'm not sure about how the bricks does fit together because of their different shadings.

@Hinalyte: Both foreground and background are great. I think they definitely fit with SMAS's graphical style! My only complain is about the ice, I don't really like the grid effect you gave to it.
That looks awesome, Hinalyte! You sure did a great job matching that in with SMAS style, good on you. The only thing that bothers me is the iceblocks. Maybe try giving them a darker outline?

@S.R.H, @Ladida. It is my graphic style, when i made the bushes/the grass, i didn't want them look realistic

That's dumb. Just because you don't have a realistic-looking style doesn't mean you're completely unable to make the bushes not look like masses of green bubbles/piles of green rocks #ab{:P}.
Anyway, I guess reducing the ammount of balls would make them look more like bushes.

OK, ok, ok, you won, and now?

Heh, much better, that looks really nice now. :)

Awesome, looks really nice! :P I can't help but feel it looks odd without the BG but when the BG is put there it suddenly looks perfect... #ab{>_>}

The ice blocks really need a black outline. Right now it breaks the consistency that you have going with everything else.

Other than that it's okay.

I'll probably end up releasing these for C3 when that comes along.

StanTheMackiar, those are quite the tiles you got there though I agree with the others that the dithering of the large hills makes your graphic stand out not in a good way with regards to a lack of texture in your other tiles. And try to respond with less hostility when others are giving your critique.

Hinalyte, those are some snowy/peppermint graphics you got there though there are a few improvements to be made. The darkest green of the snowy tree could be darker to give it a higher contrast. As for your snow tiles that look like a bump that differentiates flat ground, get rid of the banding of the shades of blue, not to mention that pillowshading is generally frowned upon among pixel artists. Also, I would suggest having the outline of the ice tiles be black.
Modern Redrawn Mario Bros. 1.5 (last update - February 14, 2023, some new bonus frames, tons of minor touchups to various poses)

On Pixel Art Requests: Depends on what it is and if I have the time for it. If its complex and I don't have the time, don't expect me to accept it.

Huh, I thought I was the only one that thought like this. +1.

@Dr. Tapeworm: Great work as always. I love both, though I still can't understand what that.. floating tree?... uh... decoration thingy (?) (in the second screenshot) is?

Ice blocks lack a black outline in a lot of games, simply as a sign that that stuff behaves differently.

@Hinalyte i think you can take some inspiration from SMAS Ice blocks

(Use transparent pixels) and/or only use pale blue for the borders and white(or a really desatured cyan/pale blue) on the center to make it look more like ice.

Indeed, they are :P. I just modified it a bit to my liking because I realized I can't properly draw a pine tree. lol

@Ice blocks: I gave it that style because I was inspired by How NSMB did it. I'm not really sure what should I adjust on it but we'll see! Thanks for some of the suggestions by the way.

Dr. Tapeworm: The first one reminds me of Kirby and the Amazing Mirror's Candy Constellation world for some reason, and I can't tell the theme of the second one... Anyway, both look great for something looking simple! Good work.

It's a mountain or something.

Not sure why, but I'm not really a fan of the mountain... probably just me, though, but guess it looks a bit too... smooth? dunno.

But yeah, other than that it looks pretty good! Really like the styles used here, even if the two different dirt tiles seem like they clash a bit.
It looks like it's made of clay. Fix the brightest shading on that log thing though, as it doesn't look as good as the rest of what you have.
@DrTapeworm: It looks nice, but the tileset could do with a bit more decoration. Have you considered pine trees or rocks to go with it? You could even have foreground walls similar to Yoshi's Island.

Anyways, I've got some sprite graphics to show off.

Throughout my hack, Viola must overcome an army of wizards in order to liberate her friends from their clutches.
These are the low-ranking Apprentices. They behave similarly to enemies like Hammer Bros., Fire Bros, etc.

These are the middle-ranking Magicians. Their spells will pose more of a threat than the Apprentices, and are a bit more difficult to defeat as well.

These are Phantom Magicians. Skilled in spatial manipulation and illusion. They are basically Magikoopas.

A mysterious, robed girl that Viola encounters. She bears no affiliation with the wizards, so why does she choose to fight against Viola?
Wow, using such different sorts of sprites as an army of wizards is a great idea!
These 8-bit styled graphics are cool, but I'm not sure about the Apprentices' ones. Is that circle around their heads a hood? They look kinda strange imo.
Other than that, the other magicians are nice, I especially like the Phantom Magicians.
The mysterious robed girl looks mysterious, indeed, but she's cute as well. #w{=3}

This. The dithered lighting there clashes with the overall lighting style you chose.

Also, the projected shadows in the first type of dirt are wrong. Notice that the light source is located at the top left corner, but the shadows imply that it's located at the bottom left corner. Tbh, I don't see any reason to keep the first style of FG as a whole, as the second one looks better imo and would act exactly the same way as the first one.

For some reason, I'm not that much bothered by the "smooth" mountains, but yeah, they could look a bit more "rocky".

Nice GFX anyways, and I especially liked the palettes you chose. :)
@GeminiRage: Looks really nice! It's simple but it looks well made.
What? No new pictures in 3 days? Blasphemy! Watch as I get this thread more activity!

No, this isn't a repost of one of my stuff I've shown in the screenshots & crap thread. Things have been changed (wood corners have been fixed, better shading in those squares (?), slopes, new bushes, better looking hills), and I'm quite happy with it at the moment. What do you think?
