Original Graphics, Palettes and HDMA Showoff Thread

Hi guys!

@roberto: I said they were made by hand, meaning I didn't rip them from another game.

@StanTheMackiar: That's a really nice take on the NSMB-styled grasslands. You definitely put some good detail into the bushes too. Have you considered using a darker ground color for walk-through dirt, or a rocky ledge like in NSMBU?
@StanTheMackiar: Wow, Stan. That looks amazing. I don't really have much to complain about... other than the bushes; they look like green balls put on top of other balls.
Also, the white on the grass really bothers me. No idea why.
@S.R.H. I make other style of bushes, but i can't take screenshots, because i formatted my pc and i forgot take security copy of theses, and the brightnessn on the grass, i guess that can't liking to all.

@GeminiRage, Thanks, but i don't make BGs.

Sorry for my poor english

I wasn't talking about making a background. I was referring to how in NSMBU, they placed rocky foreground walls with ledges on top of them that the player could either go in front of or walk on top of.

Example:

You could add foreground tiles that look and behave similarly to your tileset.
That actually does look very impressive, StanTheMackler, but maybe tone down the white to a much lighter shade of the green your using. It looks like a pretty sharp transition to me personally.

Drew these tiles up on YY-CHR a couple days ago. The 2nd screenshot hosts a custom made background.

Those little SMB3-style hills clash with the rest of the graphics a lot, they use a totally different shading style than the rather smooth grass/dirt/fence/what have you.

@antimatterhunter: That snowy castle FG is very detailed. The BG on the 2nd screenshot is well made too, but you should add some clouds, because the sky seems kinda blank imo (however that hdma gradient is very smooth!).
@GeminiRage. Oh, ok, but i feel that is not very needed.

@leod, @antimatterhunter. It's better?

Yes, that's much better for colors. I do have to agree with Leod that those hills do look kind of out of place. Try giving them shading much like you did with the grass, that should help.

...am I the only one that feels like the bushes seriously look like green balls?
yeah, looks a bit like bubbling goop... which makes the grass look like slime #ab{~:o}

not sure how to fix it without ruining the style
@StanTheMackiar: Nice graphics, the only thing that left are the flowers.
Thanks for all for your comments

@antimatterhunter. i'm not sure how to shade the big mountains with another shading style, without making them look bad.

@S.R.H, @Ladida. It is my graphic style, when i made the bushes/the grass, i didn't want them look realistic

EDIT:

@Roberto. Thanks!, Nice idea, maybe I'll draw the flowers later if I am not too lazy for it

That's dumb. Just because you don't have a realistic-looking style doesn't mean you're completely unable to make the bushes not look like masses of green bubbles/piles of green rocks #ab{:P}.
Anyway, I guess reducing the ammount of balls would make them look more like bushes.

A kirby-inspired ice castle tileset.

@Dr. Tapeworm: That pretty good, but maybe darken the palette a little bit as it kind of hurts my eyes.
@Mack - Look at how the hills are shaded. You are using dithering (which is where you overlap 2 shades of colors pixel over pixel like), it's not smooth like most of the grass is.

I think they are supposed to be, like crystal trees.(?) Correct me if I'm wrong
