Looks good so far.

lol
Interesting aesthetics, but don't go overboard with them. So far it looks good.
These palettes are 10/10. Great job! Your decoration ideas seem really nice as well. :>
Yah, that's great and all, but what happend to your statusbar?
These are screenshots taken from ZSNES. He disabled Layer 3
Uh, okay then. Don't see a good reason for that, but whatever.
This is looking pretty nice so far! The combining of tilesets is popular and if done right as in this case it can create quite aesthetically appealing levels. I do urge you though to be careful of implementing some elements as the palettes of some objects may be difficult to distinguish from the palette of the background tiles. That is something that may arise from the looks of things (not saying this will inevitably happen however). I also would like to suggest that changing the palettes of the sprites and the status bar would help make those particular elements more fitting. The level design itself does not seem to be bad though don't let complex tileset combinations distract you from the actual level design.

Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback!
Here is some more progress.

wow. from the latest image, i can tell that this is probably going to be one of many great levels for the 2015 vanilla contest! the palettes really look interesting, and the mixed foreground with the castle and grass looks really interesting. the palette of the coin question blocks and the dragon coins could use a bit more work though. try darkening them so they fit a bit more with the surroundings; same with the sprites as Everest mentioned.

i always wondered why these existed in the original super mario world: invisible used blocks near ledges.

by the way, this isn't a problem since it occurred in the original super mario world, but why are there invisible used blocks all over the corner ledges?

keep up the good work!
My Inspiring Quotes on Personal Growth and Change:

"Resolved financial/personal problems equal greater growth!"

"The only constant thing in life is change; nothing is set in stone. The old is replaced with the new. Forgive yourself for past mistakes. When many different problems in your life are resolved (personal, financial, etc.), newfound strength and confidence is gained in the process. Usually, failures, lack of assertiveness, disappointments, incompetence, low self-esteem and lack of self-respect, financial struggles, and setbacks can cause us to change and take action to solve any problem, leading to increased strength and confidence. This you learn from experience.

I have been experiencing this aforementioned newfound strength and confidence myself for the past FOUR to EIGHT years or so, getting stronger with each passing year, learning with each mistake I make and becoming more joyful in the process. Because of this newfound confidence I've acquired over the years, finding my passion is of utmost importance in 2022! You can develop this strength and confidence in yourself as well!"

To whoever's reading this, you are amazing and you are capable of doing equally amazing things. Gather confidence and be yourself! Say goodbye to the old you and welcome the new you! It wants to arise every moment, but you don't let it. Learn from your mistakes and never make that mistake again! Find your passion and live it!"

Finding my passion in life, but I may still be active on SMWCentral from time to time. Still enjoy playing many hacks, but I'm widening my perspective on life and opening myself to the new.
Colours and concept are good but it does seem hard to tell whats solid and what is not. O.o

As I said the colours do look good but I'd make things stand out more if they can be stood on. ;P
50 points for gryffindor because of the title reference

Video!
@1UPdudes: I darkened the palette a bit.

Those spikes don't look solid if they are.

Other than that, it looks quite nice though I don't see any particular reason for that P-switch.
