CM30's C3 Booth (Graphics + Announcement)

Well, it's been a while since I've been here, hasn't it?

Either way, I decided I'd submit some of the graphics I'd finished since leaving the site a few years ago, just so that other people could make use of them in their own projects.

First up, some GFX from Mario End Game. I'll be releasing many, many graphics sets from this in future, just so they're used in more than just one ridiculously hard and annoying ROM hack.

Enjoy:

Kirby Super Star Halberd

Comes with graphics to turn Mario enemies into Kirby sprites.

Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse Toy Land

We so needed a good toy tileset like this.

The Great Circus Mystery Starring Mickey Mouse Baron's Castle

There will be more, but I'll add them based on request. So if there was any interesting graphics set from the game you thought should be made publically available, please request it in this topic.

Or get it from here:

And submit it yourself, it should be fine.

There are also other sets I released a while back that are being uploaded here, gradually...

Raocow forum users will already have seen this.

Super Double Dragon Airport

I ripped these after seeing an edited version used for the level Dead Air in Super Mario Fusion Revival. These are more glossy though, since they're mostly unedited from the original game and not designed for a ghost house.

God knows where this was from, but I'll release it anyway.

So what's the announcement? Well, see the next post...

As for Mario's Nightmare Quest? Well, it's currently on Fusion Gameworks, ROM Hacking.net or the GCN at the moment.
OMG CM30 is BAK :OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

In all seriousness, these rips are great, I'll use them whenever I find a good use for them.

please post announcement now
are you back or not?
Only til the many, many ExGFX submissions I had get posted on this site. I've got way too much going on with websites and Mario's Nightmare Quest to post here regularly.

Talking of which... yeah, may as well post it here. Mario's Nightmare Quest. That game you may have seen talked about on the GCN, ROM Hacking.net, raocow's forum, Fusion Gameworks and my own site. It's a very interesting hack...

Mario's Nightmare Quest

The Story

[Involves Mario being trapped in a strange world after travelling back home after an adventure. It's why it doesn't take place in the normal Mushroom Kingdom]

Information and Screenshots

Intro

Mario starts off walking through the Mushroom Kingdom, in an area free of enemies and with Toads and other NPCs teaching him the controls. It's a new twist on level C5, by actually making it into a proper intro level.

Main World

You then end up in the mysterious land. It's kind of surreal at times, but the name of the game should give you a pretty big hint to why that is.

Either way, this world is split into five worlds you can play at any time; the Grasslands, the Foothills, Snowy Mountains, Tropics Beach and Remilitarized Zone.

Have a few pictures of levels from each of these worlds:

Grasslands

Bonus 1: Space Station

Yeah, random. But this doesn't have a space world, strange as that may be.

Foothills

Snowy Mountains

Tropical Beach

Remilitarized Zone

Secret Level: Aftermath

Nuclear meltdown themed post apocalyptic. Tiles from some Jazz Jackrabbit resources site I can't remember the name of.

Then, the game splits off again, into five new worlds. These are more fancy than the first five, and each one is unlocked after you beat one of the first five worlds on the main map. Kind of like how Romancing Mario works, to a degree.

Dire Desert

Forest

Demon Woods

Hyrule

Toy Land

Once that's done, you get to try the last world, which will have the final levels and boss. These are more challenging.

Final Castle

So that's that. Interestingly:

1. This game is designed to be fairly easy, since I'm getting sick of all these ridiculously hard hacks and fan games, even those that don't mean to be.

2. There are no homing bullets, n00b bosses or Koopa Elites.

3. Peach, Bowser and the Koopalings do not appear at all.

4. Gameplay is mostly Mario based, with very few crossovers and even fewer gimmick mechanics (so no Touhou references, Ponies, mine carts or Brutal Mario style bosses from games outside the Mario universe).

5. The secret levels are often holiday based, with world 2's being a haunted house with a halloween feel and world 3's being Christmas based.

Wow, that looks really, really well made. I'd love to play it. I can see you put a lot of work on it.

but.. are you going to be inactive again after posting these? :(
These graphics... wow. How long did it take for you to draw/rip them? They look great.

I'd like to play this hack, looks really interesting.
Wow, you are CM30. I never made the connection between CM and cheat-master on the wario forums. Anyway, I'm glad you've decided to release these rips, because they're all quite well done. #wario{:peace:}

Thanks. If you want to beta test, I can sign you up for that.

I need people who can tell me if the levels are actually fun this time around.

Unfortunately, I don't plan to be active particularly long. Just til my GFX are released and a few other things are taken care of.

I started on this game in about February this year. Yeah, these graphics took a good six plus months to rip so far. Thanks for the compliments on them!

On another note, if you want to play it earlier, would you be interested in beta testing? I've got a few people lined up to do that.

Okay, I'm kind of surprised at that. My username only changed because I thought having it a few letters shorter sounded more professional.

And yeah, I thought it wouldn't be right to leave these rips going unused.

Nah, beta testing is not really my thing.
Also, sad to hear. You were one of my favorite users. :(
After hearing about you releasing many of Endgame's graphics, could I rip this background for myself?

Anyway, from what I've seen, Nightmare Quest looks very promising and I'm waiting on its completion, and I'm mainly hoping that it rights the wrongs done by Endgame. So far, your new attitude on the situation of what's important in game design is amazing, and you've got me convinced that you'll be able to make a classic. Best of luck.

Of course you can rip it for yourself. You can rip anything from End Game you want for any purpose whatsoever. Same goes for anyone else. I merely SMWified the graphics.

If you need a reference, here's the picture used for the background:

The background will probably end up on this site at some point.

As for Nightmare Quest righting the wrongs done by Endgame... Well, no homing bullets, n00b bosses or Koopa elites... that should help a signficant amount.

As should the fact it's not trying to be difficult. And the fact I'm putting alternate routes past anything considered even remotely hard as a way to make sure no one's forced to do anything stupid or slightly gimmicky.
