SMWCP2 Sound Track Redux


With beta testing now around the corner, a few people have expressed interest in "fixing" some of the sound tracks for this hack; either they partially/completely broke during the AMK conversion a while back or they feel "improvements" can be made for various tracks. Below is a list of the Sound Tracks currently inserted into the hack. If you feel a certain track needs to be fixed/improved on, now is your time to speak up. Even if you have no composing skills whatsoever, your input will still be appreciated. For those with the golden musical touch, feel free to sign up here. There is one final catch to this though. This hack has already been in progress FAR to long as it is. So this "Music Project" will only last as long as the beta testing phase lasts. If you do not finish your composition by the time beta testing is done, I will not be waiting around for you.

Aw I quite liked Water Fortress.
The one track I can currently think of (I'm on my cellphone) is the Abstract Theme 2 by TrapFanatic; it's quite bland and not really abstracty.

One song I can think of that should be redone is the Blimp theme (Sky/Blimp Level 2). It's not all that good, and VERY repetitive. Quite honestly, I think it could be done better. Might even need to be redone from the ground up.

I'm fine with the composition itself, I just feel like it could be re-ported. The drums are too echo-y and overall sound pretty weird, and the instrumentation could use some work as well. (Actually, I think I might as well claim that one too).
Desert Ruins Level 2 also needs to be edited a little, as the main melody isn't exactly interesting to hear and it's very repetitive. Also, the pseudo-echo channels are a bit too loud, making them sound kinda obnoxious.
Just a little warning that most of the music on the first post has been changed a bit from how it was before.
I actually have all the music ripped and tagged from the 4/26 ROM that I can send in a 7z if anyone with access to snn.caffie.net wishes to update the first post.

This is legitimately one of my favorite songs in the entire hack--just going to go out there and say that I really hope even if you completely redo it the original will still be available as an unused beta song in the sound test.

Anyway I can take care of Cave Level 1 and Switch Palace (and a couple others that didn't seem to get the piano sample right). But, uh, anyone else wanna take a stab at Sky/Blimps Castle? God knows I've tried everything I could on my end to make it sound good, but if anyone else knows what it needs or even wants to scrap the whole thing and build something completely new, that'd be fine with me.

Also, when will the beta testing phase end? Just want to have a rough idea of how long I have to work on these.
I should get a new layout.

As soon as you and HFD give me the ASM for me to insert for the cutscenes/boss, I'll begin beta testing. If everything goes according to plan, I can't see this lasting more than 2 months.

I'm also in the same camp as Kipernal: I really liked the forest castle song and I would be very disappointed to see it go to waste. If you have no intention of keeping it in SMWCP2, perhaps you could just release it publicly at some later date?

I will also note that I love the forest castle theme (also one of my favorites), but if Jimmy wants to try and improve on his own song I can't really stop him either. I'll be interested to see how it turns out.

Would any of these be worth working on some more? (They could be used for the factory, sky, desert ruins, and grass/industrial castle levels respectively.)

Seems too short to work for a level song, and doesn't really feel fitting enough to be a "final" overworld song compared to what is already in place.
He did say that he'd be working on them more if enough people approved.

On this note, I think the list you and the others came up with could benefit from some descriptiveness. Like, the five things at the bottom: WHY do they need to be reported/recomposed? WHAT is wrong with them? Knowing these can only help efforts to fix the songs.
