Hacks:
- Item babysitting: especially if I have to drag more than one item all the way around the room and reuse it somewhere else or do a giant chain of events
- Bowser kidnapped the princess (I would like for once to see the princess kidnap Mario and Luigi has to rescue his brother from the psychopath)
- Levels that overstay their welcome
- Spikes and munchers "littering" the level rather than being "built into" the level
- FG and BG being hard to distinguish from one another
- BG palette not suited to the backdrop and creating an improper distortion of distance and natural lighting
- When I notice recurring patterns, especially if they extend to different levels
- Old music that breaks on accurate emulators because it means I played a hack for nothing other than to hit Reject
- That overused ghost house song that slows down the SPC700 on accurate emulators
- People who make "Kirby" hacks where Kirby can't fly or eat people at the very least
- When people edit the fire flower graphic to be a handgun and it still shoots diagonally and bounces rather than going straight
- In older "Wario" hacks: "TIWE UP!" (this is more funny than annoying though. Related: "GAWE OVER")
- Unskippable cutscenes, especially if you replay a level
Hackers, Critics, and Critics who are Hackers:
- People who ragequit when their hack gets rejected even if people liked the hack but found it had some flaws
- People who adamantly believe all criticism must be accepted and applied
- Likewise, people who dismiss all criticism or see it as hating
- People who adamantly believe non-compliance with SMWC standards means it's instantly a bad hack rather than thinking for themselves
- People who quit a hack because they can't handle criticism
- People who stake claim to an aesthetic style that's trendy, especially if it's built out of (mostly or all) "vanilla" tiles
- People who think if the PC isn't a Mario character that it's automatically shit or should be an indie game and not a SMW hack
- People who think it's okay to finish Brutal Mario for Carol (see also: people who use others' hacks as bases without consent and try submitting it here)
- Hackers that dream too big, make this show-stopping hack, then run out of space or into limitations before it's complete (but this is a "don't hate the player, hate the game" annoyance)
- People who start amazing-looking hacks that suddenly fall off the face of the planet
Hacking:
- SPC700 limited to 8 channels and being dissatisfied with the results whenever a song has more than 8 channels which can no longer be merged
- Forgetting good ideas before you can commit them to paper
- Just right-clicking and pasting tiles because the only time you want to hack is when you have no ideas
- The fact that a hack can't just jump out of my head and be done and I actually have to put effort in to make it happen
Hack Section:
- I want to give Zeldara's Glitch City a fair trial since people say it's a fun hack and its purpose is to say you don't need to be a pretty hack to be enjoyable. It may have a symbolic purpose in the section, kind of like how Kumikyoku does
Just look above you...
If it's something that can be stopped, then just try to stop it!
