Mario's Ghost Valley (last smw hack)

^this

Dude, if you just want to mess with lunar magic it's ok. But don't spam this section with hacks, which gets canceled in a day or two anyways.
It's also better to use the critique to improve your current hack than scrap it and make a new "better" one.

Currently working on:
Project C

Finished project:
NGB and Scorpion just summed up exactly what I was thinking the second I saw this thread, and to further emphasize what they said, i went back deeper into the WIP forum and found that this is at least your sixth unfinished hack (no joke).

I recommend you pick one, stick with that, and finish it before moving on to another one. You're only overwhelming yourself more and more by constantly making new hacks that have yet to be worked on much. But that's just my suggestion, and you can keep making multiple hacks at a time if you want -who am I to tell you how to do your own projects?-, but with every hack thread you make you're only making us doubt even more that you'll ever finish one.

It's better then Mario's Challenge! Oh wait, that gives me an idea!
The name of the hack has changed 3 times since I first posted lol. That has to be a record. Crash maybe instead of focusing on the name, just have it as a temporary title, and focus on your levels.

I'm sure he isn't overwhelming himself as I have a good faith he's scrapping any hacks that receive one bit of negative criticism. Honestly Crash, what you should do, is title this thread "CrashKandicoot's Hacks" thread, keep all of your projects in one place. You'll avoid annoying other people with what I can call, your spam projects, and appear much more organized. There's nothing wrong with having a lot of projects, but work on one at a time, and if you HAVE to work on many at once, just put them all in one thread. This is like, your sixth or seventh hack thread which contains very to little content. People are starting to lose credibility in you, and honestly, even I can't take this seriously anymore...

So, if you'll follow my suggestions and the others above me, do this

-Put all of your projects into this one thread
-Go apply all the criticism others have taken their time to give you into your projects and show off the results
-Don't half-ass your applications

There's nothing wrong with preferences, but you should always put 100% into anything you do, that's my opinion.
Your layout has been removed.
Not trying to sound mean or anything, but something tells me he isn't even listening to us or taking us seriously anymore, given that he hasn't replied after several posts, yet he clearly is checking back at this thread given how many times he's changed this title. >_>

Be sure not to scrap your previous hack for that

New hack??? Scrapped the other???? You want to know what would be good for you... put all the levels you made into one rom, right? Right?!?

I'm starting to get the vibe you're not too serious about hacking SMW. If you're going to hack, be prepared to commit: long term too. You can't make a hack in a week or too, a good one at least.

what if it is a vanilla hack?

NOW THE BEST LEVEL EVER!!

Tag (div) was closed.

The same person? Oh nevermind.

I'm going to begin complaining about the fact that the palette in the title screen is way too messed up, especially the bushes (hint: you've enabled your custom palettes for literally every level; enabling the custom palette for a specific level only would be better). You could brighten the spot inside the ledge and darken the orange as well. Don't forget to replace the original messages with your own throughout the hack!

Onto the actual level, the cement blocks' palette are a bit weird, so making them grey like they always were before would look more natural. I've found a few instances where the level got a bit unfair starting when I'm halfway through, like here, where afterwards I'm greeted with five Eeries on a tight section and, if I scroll to the left, I'm screwed as they will appear again. It would be better if you raised the ceiling a few tiles up to make it more fair to the player.
Here, making that jump back to the ledge took me a few tries. Lower some of that ledge a bit or add an invisible coin/note block and indicate it.

That Fishin' Boo made the first exploding block disappear, as well as the first Yoshi I find from one of the question blocks. Are you sure you set the sprite memory correctly? Check the levels that have it set according to the number of the sprite (on this case, it should be 11). On the aforementioned exploding section, honestly it looked a bit too flat.

Overall, this level wasn't bad on the first few screens, but you could do better. It suddenly went downhill after the moment I came across the first pair of Eeries. I suggest you add a few landmasses and other ways to explore the level and, of course, find a way to make from those a fair experience to the player. Look at the most recent hacks to be more inspired and make this hack unique. I wish you the best of luck!

As a final note, you don't need to cancel every project you start, as you have no idea how many hacks I've started and cancelled. Put the previous ideas into one full hack to be more organized and less annoying to the people who have been following your levels. I won't be really bothered if you give another hack up again, but it would be better if you did that way.

Everytime i come with a new idea:
oh hey that's nice i'll make this one it will be better than the other one

and i cancell it too.
SO, I HAVE A NEW NAME
IT IS ORIGINAL.

What a sorry-ass excuse for making half-assed projects that won't even be worked on. I agree with Scorpion about not being serious with hacking: If you can't keep on to improving, then don't touch Lunar Magic.

Replace "SMW hacking" with "Game creation" and "Lunar Magic" with "Game Creation software" because Kandicoot shouldn't even be touching these kinds of software, not just LM unless he's willing to spend long hours comitted to finishing at least one of his works. Game design is more than just a hobby and having a casual mindset is a recipe for failure.

C'mon guys, if you hate my hacks, it's okay, i'll stop making SMW hacks, then i'll stick to SM64 or Yoshi Island. The only 2 i'm good at.

The title screen;
i know about the bushes, i just didn't change the title screen!

The same person? Oh nevermind.

I'm happy someone is crazy about hacking. Make as many hacks as you want kid, don't let the haters stop you. Though, be sure to be actually learning from all this.

That's not really helpful, and it's not helping to the hack, so?

Um, he is allowed to motivate you. If you ask me, having motivation goes a long way when it comes to game development. And you'll need it.

Why should this have to be a serious effort though? Why can't he just do projects for his own enjoyment? I can understand the discontent going on in this thread, but he shouldn't be expected to put laborious work into this if he doesn't want to.
If it wasn't supposed to be serious effort then wouldn't he not be posting them here.

I get this aura of pretentiousness eminating from nearly every post here assuming he's not serious about it (which he has never said himself) and I have not seen this point brought up once.

how can you expect me being serious with a bomberman avatar?
