What annoys you about SMW hacking/hackers

There are some things that annoy me about SMW hacking/hackers, and I'm sure others have pet peeves about it as well. But let's stray away from stuff like "Too much cutoff" or "Bad palettes", because all of us don't like those.

Here are some of mine:

-In pit hacks when people use the "Piano" music the whole time
-When people criticize other people's hacking styles instead of just not liking it and moving on. WeegeeBen I'm looking at you

What annoys you?
-Remixes of the 'Here We Go!' theme
-ExAnimation (making stuff involving that for personal use, not when it's used in other hacks)
-Random suggestions like "please use X graphics" without any consideration of whether or not it would even fit.
-Tools and back-ups being stored in different folders and I have to constantly keep track of where they are.
-Blatant 'expies' of my levels. Not so bad when it's more subtle or in moderation but when it uses the same/similar palettes, tilesets, map16, and has a similar layout, and in the same relative place in the hack, it makes me uncomfortable.
-The mentality that vanilla=not worth playing
-Putting ceilings and cramped passages in grassland levels such that they might as well be caves. When you go outside, there is sky above you, not a dirt ceiling. Perfectly fine in Kaizo hacks. IMO outside levels in normal hacks don't need to be cramped like that.

SMW hacking channel

-Floating stacked munchers (this is actually still a thing in 2014)
-Crappypastas (see Help-me.rar and DARKNESS)
-Being so lazy that you just steal levels from everyone else
-Invisible block traps / other mean tricks
-this guy
-A lot of hacks feel similar to one another
-custom bosses (these are so hard to make actual good ones; quite a few I fought were OP)

List may be expanded.
- The original SMW music
- Blatant edits (Especially Yoshi's Island 1)
- Munchers
- Stolen levels
- Downloading a hack that is a ROM instead of an IPS
- Bad criticism
- Mario hacks and Ivan0865 (And other bad users on the site)

- when people put graphics of like trees and signs upside down on the ceiling of a level. (honestly trees mostly dont grow upside-down)

- Too much decoration in a level

- Too many badguys in a level

- Not knowing what to do in a level and getting lost

- Item babysitting

- Poor level design

- When you touch the sides of spikes that clearly aren't sharp and you get hurt.

- Blind jumps

- Mistaking decoration for real objects or sprites. ex, a vine that looks like you can climb on it but you can't as its just for looks

- Not knowing how to use certain rom hacking tools or learning them for the first time and screwing everything up
-Generalization.

Most blocks don't float and most mushrooms don't make you grow.

I mostly dislike hacks that don't do anything new to distinguish them from similar hacks, but that's my most major complaint regarding art in general, it's not really specific to hacking.
Very very very shortly, this drab, workaday world and everything in it will be changed forever! Follow us into the golden country, into the empire of the senseless!
- When people say SMB3 graphics are overused when really, it's the opposite. And when people say SMB3 graphics graphics clash with most graphics, yet, most graphics mixed with SMW graphics clash worse.

- Little to no enemy variety in hacks; constant use of just SMW enemies.

- Hacks with little to no gimmicks. Sure, hacks with good level design are nice, but they get boring after awhile.

- Porting hacks to a new rom

I don't really find anything wrong with that, but oh well.

- Redrawn graphics. There was only one person that can understand my hate for those (Mr.Blue Yoshi), but now he's inactive.
- People that blatantly copy other people.
- WHEN A FUCKING AWESOME HACKER DOESN'T GET UPDATE HIS/HER HACKS. DAMN. YOU. (I'm looking at you, Wuthering, foop2164, Nep-Enut, Reggie, Luks, Lazy, Zeldara109, Mellonpizza, dylans222, notgoodwithusernames..)

rofl, I do that xD Though, I find no reason trying to find logic in a Mario hack.
1. Bits that look like they were blatantly copied from other hackers, be it a original idea or the general layout of a level (ironically, I used to do that back on my first months of hacking, now I don't do it anymore). I might still take an idea and find a way to make it even harder, but otherwise...
2. Porting to a new ROM is very annoying as well. I know that updating to AMK wasn't really hard, but in cases where I have no other restore points after something goes badly wrong, like a patch that stopped working or something similar, having to do everything again to ensure it will work gets tiresome after a while.
3. People not taking criticism in consideration.

The people you mentioned have lives too, as they might be busy with other things and can't update every few days. If you ever expect an update from these people, all we can do is wait.
Windowless ride, feeling alive
Are you alive or just breathing?
Invisible coin block. Basic, poorly designed, thrown together vanilla hacks. That's about it.

Or when someone bumps one of their hack threads and people think it's an actual update and get all excited but it was actually a pointless bump.
-Levels that are too long with midpoints few and far between (not so much an issue with hacks that expect the player to save scum throughout)
-The whole situation of not wanting to use SMW's Koopalings, any of the bosses in the sprites section, or learning how to make my own boss. A little bit of good came out of that, tho.
-Assigning a concrete number of screens, and levels that are below that are 'too short.'
-Related to the above, levels that care more about meeting that requirement than about remaining fun to play throughout.
-Overusing the same select few custom resources/glitches/sprites in almost every level (unless the entire hack is meant to be minimalist and/or revolving around a particular gimmick)
-Monomania e.g.: "it's not an insanely long and glitch abusing Kaizo level, so it's a waste!"
-Asking "when will you release ___?"
-The feeling of hack threads being ignored. I know intellectually I shouldn't be concerned about it but easier said than done.

You're implying I don't hate them myself.

>terrible hacks that focus on custom resources
>the lack of asmers
- Clashing graphics. You don't mix SMW and Megaman X GFX. You just don't.
- Desaturated palettes. Fortunately, this isn't so common anymore.
- Uncreative hack names. We've been over this.
- Lack of continuity in hacks
- Overused music tracks, especially unsampled ones
- Unnecessary Map16 decoration
- The ultimate noob boss

also apparently i'm a FUCKING AWESOME HACKER even though i've barely shown any of my work. thanks anyway srh
That annoys me a bit

-when will you hack release

- "Group work" Team hack

- Easy Kaizo levels -This is my opinion

I suck at kaizo sometimes, but if an "easy level" has a good gimmick to it, I don't mind.

I know Wily stage 1&2 used to be one of those. I think the VLDC music will be used to death soon.

It was mostly annoying when WeegeeBen did his thanksgiving crapsack hacks video and said the hacks like "Touhou Mario" and "Choconilla rise" were really stupid. I think he was joking though. I get how he thought naming the genre after an ice cream flavor was stupid though

EDIT - 800 BIATCH!!
-Bad level design (levels full of empty, flat and/or repetitive segments).
-The mentality that levels with good decoration and visuals are poorly designed.
-The mentality that vanilla levels are inferior.
-People pointing out every single 1-pixel cutoff in a hack rather than focusing on gameplay.
-People who think something automatically becomes bad when it's "overused".
As "constructive" as this thread may be, I'm going request you guys please don't point fingers at anymore people who may upset you. Some of those people may get offended and it is a flame war waiting to happen, instead you may be better off PM'ing them your issues directly.
Your layout has been removed.

Yeah, can't anybody here get a break now? Nobody here is being paid to do this.
- Lots of SMW hackers are stuck in whatever way they first learned to do something. Every time a new, better tool comes out, people complain about it. It wasn't 2 years ago that the majority of people still used TRASM for sprites, which is just what?

- Hackers who have double standards on copyright. Put simply, if you are an SMW hacker who locks your hack, I think you are a terrible person.

- Too hard levels. For serious, what is wrong with us?
