Halloween Level Design Contest (HLDC) 2014 - Discussion and Questions

Link Thread Closed
Thank you Virus for your review of my level.

I fixed the issues that you talked about. I really tried to make it such that there wasn't any extra coins in the level, but as you pointed out the 3 coin stair blocks did that very thing.

So I fixed those issues and reloaded my ips file, however uhhh I can't edit my original post in the other thread.

Also I deleted the original ips file in my smw account.

Uhhh, sooo here is the new link and please use this submission instead of the original one.

So if you are judging the contest my submission is here.

also the secondary exit was actually kind of last min, however it provides an exit to go to if you make it to the end without the proper amount of coins.

as for the 1 ups, i wanted to reward the player for exploration and since i can't use coins i decided to use 1-ups. i know pretty pointless but at least you get to find hidden stuff.

i just couldn't think of anything else to reward the player with really.

This is just me, but I honestly try and find hidden question mark blocks and such in other hacks and when I don't find any I get kind of disappointed.

speaking of hidden stuff i hid a feather and flower in the game.

it was odd that the music broke since i never had that happen to me.

it was also interesting to see some of the flaws that i never considered like the invisible 1 up knocking the player off the edge and the accidental P-switch activation bounce-off that hits the coin that you're not supposed to hit.

i didnt really like the L/R reset patch that I had applied earlier, however i couldnt find a way to remove it so i got stock in the game. it really doesnt do anything useful, but nonetheless its there.

none of the things happened to me while test playing, but nonetheless provided good feedback.
One of the patches I used had to break... The DKC Sprite Status Bar, courtesy of WhiteYoshiEgg; it doesn't like teleportations which basically meant I had to transfer from a stable rom to a more-or-less buggy submission if I wanted to make the deadline on time; lo and behold I find a solution to this problem after the deadline, so yeah... go figure.
