Super Secret World

Standard

Lame name, I know. I hope you guys will help me rename it.

I have the first world done. Here are some screenshots.

Other than that, I'd say the overworld submap needs work. I didn't show the two last levels because it's a secret. I'll show them upon request though.

Edit: Uploading has been learned.

My Inspiring Quotes on Personal Growth and Change:

"Resolved financial/personal problems equal greater growth!"

"The only constant thing in life is change; nothing is set in stone. The old is replaced with the new. Forgive yourself for past mistakes. When many different problems in your life are resolved (personal, financial, etc.), newfound strength and confidence is gained in the process. Usually, failures, lack of assertiveness, disappointments, incompetence, low self-esteem and lack of self-respect, financial struggles, and setbacks can cause us to change and take action to solve any problem, leading to increased strength and confidence. This you learn from experience.

I have been experiencing this aforementioned newfound strength and confidence myself for the past FOUR to EIGHT years or so, getting stronger with each passing year, learning with each mistake I make and becoming more joyful in the process. Because of this newfound confidence I've acquired over the years, finding my passion is of utmost importance in 2022! You can develop this strength and confidence in yourself as well!"

To whoever's reading this, you are amazing and you are capable of doing equally amazing things. Gather confidence and be yourself! Say goodbye to the old you and welcome the new you! It wants to arise every moment, but you don't let it. Learn from your mistakes and never make that mistake again! Find your passion and live it!"

#smw{^_^} Thanks! Here are my screenshots!

Anyways, my submap needs work. And I need a better name. #smw{:peace:}

Well first off the overworld is a little plan. The level seem a little plan as well. Screen shots 6 and 12 seem like the same just a pallet swap.

your hack does not necessarily look bad in any way. however, i do want to point out a couple of stuff:

the overworld looks rather empty and has perspective errors, but i know you're still working on it. the level design could use work: most sections look empty, lack enemies, etc. i suggest playing some hacks here for inspiration on level design. anyways, specific questions include:

is mario riding yoshi here? i thought he is usually seen at the ending fade-out?

are these custom map16 blocks? i recommend using custom blocks and reading tutorials on the "tutorials" forum for how to use custom blocks.

what's the purpose of that blue vertical line in the background?

"havn't" should be "haven't".

i hope you can fix these issues, and i wish you luck with this hack!

Thanks. Lol, I can assure you that 6 and 12 are completely different levels! #smw{-_-;} Also, I know how to create and use map16 blocks. I will work on the enemies and fix the typo. About poor Yoshi, I have no idea what happened to him. Any help? And the blue line in the background is just for decoration. It is a testing facility that happens to not use a background. (Think of other levels as that same room with a different background and objects. Kind of like a simulation.)

You should use custom tilesets to make your hack more nice #smw{:|}
You don't need a custom tileset to make a hack look nice.
Just add some variation in the terrain. Sometimes the area is the same hight a whole screen. This should be changed to make it more interesting to play.
To make the level more unique you also can add more decoration and change the palette.
Just don't forget to enable custom palettes in the level you are recoloring. If you don't do this, each level using this palette will change.

Currently working on:
Project C

Finished project:
First of all, if you use BMP images, you're going to run out of file bin space very fast. Save them as PNG.

Title screen: I'd add a background. Just be careful not to mess up the menu text if you change the palette. I think it'd look better too if you had bigger/custom font for the title to draw more attention to it but it's not really important.

Intro: No real problems here.

Overworld: Perspective issue on the bottom left and right sides; the cliff should curve like the top of the land.

Level design: The backwards ? blocks don't look good. If those are supposed to be blocks that you can pass if you collect 10 coins, I would draw a new tile with a small coin and a 10 written on the bottom right side of the box. You can insert more ExGFX into the level without replacing the GFX you already have. This will make it more clear what that block is supposed to be.

The layout outside of that is excessively empty and you put down enemies plainly that are easily avoided... those parts wouldn't be fun to play. You should have more platforms and maybe some pitfalls and try to place enemies to best take advantage of those. Adding a bush or two would help break up the plainness of a long stretch of land like the one you see in the midway point - that's a part of the level I have no complaints about the design of.

Just look above you...
If it's something that can be stopped, then just try to stop it!
Hey. I think it would be better for you to play my hack. Should I upload the ips to file bin? Also, about the bmps I won't change them until this is kind of over. I have a lot of space, after all.

Edit 2: Learned yychr.

are you clicking #lm{extgfx} to create a "graphics" folder in your rom's folder? if you have not press "joined gfx files" in the "options" menu in lunar magic, there should be a file there called "allgfx.bin". you open that up in yy-chr, and you select "4bpp snes" in yy-chr, and you are free to edit from there.

and yes, you would upload the .ips file into your file-bin if you're going to link it here.
