Apparition Eradication [Cancelled]

Link Thread Closed

Standard

This is a sequel to my SMBX episode, Luigi's Fight For The Mushroom Kingdom (LFFTMK). This sequel will be created as a SMW hack instead of SMBX, I may recreate LFFTMK as a SMW hack but no guarantee's especially since it may be impossible.

Plot

CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR LFFTMK ASSUMING YOU DIDN'T FINISH IT FOR WHATEVER REASON WHICH YOU SHOULD DO BUT IF YOU DIDN'T EVEN ATTEMPT TO PLAY THIS THEN YOU SHOULD PLAY IT I AM NOT BLATANTLY ADVERTISING AT ALL
After the defeat of Wario and Waluigi and the loss of Luigi and the disappearance of Toad, General Toad is now alone and needs to get back home. However, the amount of apparitions (ghosts) floating around everywhere is rather overwhelming and is starting to become rather troublesome. You must stop this evil force before it becomes a huge problem.

Gotta love some Toad action. Looks very nice :') really liking the overall theme and how the first world is not just a grassland. ^.^
This looks very nice, I like your graphics choices and the atmosphere is really good.
It's really pretty. Good job.

Your graphics look pretty nice and fitting.

Awesome screenshots , good job on this.
It's good to see that there's some interest in this, I was worried that there wouldn't be due to the lack of screenshots and since I have no idea how peoples standards are here anymore.

Well, I probably won't show anything for quite awhile, not until I get more levels done.
uhm...

so uh, this is a sequel to LFFTMK.
uhm...
i mean, not many people have played it i think, since it was made with SMBX, so basically how will people understand the plot?
i mean the part ''after the defeat of wario and waluigi'' thingy.

anyways i'm looking forward to this!
Yeah, I definitely don't expect people to know what's going on exactly but at the same time you don't need to know much of what happened in LFFTMK especially since the plot is completely different and the characters won't really play a huge part in a way.
First level done, this is just a little overview of how the hack might be. It's a first level so you shouldn't expect much from this. Idk how often I'll show updates especially since this isn't some generic 8 world hack but we'll see. Anyways:

Comments and criticism appreciated. And if you guys didn't know already THIS IS GONNA BE A HARD HACK!! So no complaining about most levels being tough, though if it seems flat out ridiculous then definitely tell me.
If you slowly make that kind of difficultly go up then I'd say I really can dig this hack. I like not having a grassland level you can just run through being the first level.

For level design it seems quite a good challenge but not too hard on the player. The lava bubbles are pretty creative as well. ^.^
Generally I'm not really into hard hacks at all, except for a few ones. Yours looks really great though, even for the first level I can see that this is going to be somewhat challenging for me. Aesthetics and level design shown in the video are really neat too.

Looking foward for more.
How many reports of heart attacks are you expecting from this hack?

In all seriousness, I shudder to think of the late-game difficulty of this. How long will this be?

This is looking great. Hope to see more in the near future.

The difficulty curve was gonna rise unnecessarily much but I think I'll make it rise slowly because it'd just be flat out ridiculous if I make it go high too much.

Lol ikr. That's a good question, it'll definitely be less than 8 but I haven't thought how long I'll make this otherwise, maybe it'll be 4-7. I gotta think about it for now

Thanks for the comments guys, good to see you guys like it! : )
I've just stumbled across this hack and I like what you've done so far. I'm typically not a big fan of Toads, let alone hacks that star them, but this character seems like a badass, and he fits the atmosphere of the hack, so nice work.

There are a few things I feel I should mention, though. For one, it may just be me, but the story just seems like a bit of an afterthought. It seems to lack direction. It's just like: "Oh, he was liek walkin' home, then all these GHOSTS appeared, so yeah." Of course, many people might not care either way, but I think stories in hacks give them a lot of potential, so I say give it some meaning. What do these ghosts want? Who is their leader? How will they execute their evil plan? I'd be interested to hear it.

Also, this is more minor, but as a level name, "Forlorn Traipse" just seems like it's trying way too hard. I think I used this same analogy once, but anyway, it's like opening a barber shop and calling it "Omega Shears". I don't know, just keep it, it doesn't really matter. Just thought I'd get my word in.

Anyway, nice job on everything so far, so keep at it!

In LFFTMK, you encounter a bunch, and I mean a bunch of ghosts throughout World 7 and 8. The ghosts eventually decide to go the above world (the volcano stuff takes place underground, practically hell in a way which was terrible thinking on my part but oh well) and as Toad and General Toad make their way back to their own homes (they have different homes, Toad lives in the Mushroom Kingdom and General lives underground, not the volcano area though) they then notice all those bunches of ghosts around their area and yeah, they're gonna try getting rid of them.

I haven't actually planned it out yet.

My style of coming up with level names is just simply getting away from generic words/names really. Yeah, I guess you can say I'm trying too hard on that which is true depending on what you're definition on trying hard is as all I'm doing is going on Google and typing "define: wordhere" and looking at the synonyms for those words and then using them as my level name which doesn't take too much time and effort.

Thanks for the constructive comment though!
I need more content so I'm gonna show off every level I complete for a while. So here's some Golden Mushroom flying. You do exactly what you do in LFFTMK (except you can shoot fireballs here) which is fly infinitely; the Sky Pop is used for this not some infinite P-Balloon thing. This level is honestly way easier than it looks, you just mostly have to watch out for the huge firebars as they can be a "surprise! react very quickly!" type of obstacle.

Don't worry, the graphic choices will definitely change soon, we're just about done with this outside exploration thing. What you guys think of this?
Looking good reghrhre. I have always liked the style of your games.
Keep up the good work.
Thank you! And by style do you mean the graphics or just the way things are designed?

Also, here's an unimportant update
