Awesome Mario World (Going into Beta)

I'm currently working on a new hack, which will be called "Awesome Mario World".
It was planned as a short (10 exits) vanilla hack, but I decided to put custom stuff in because reasons =)
Now it will still feature 10 exits, but will be more awesome than the old smw -> Awesome Mario World ;)
The first level is as difficult as world 5 of smw and it gets harder.
Here are some pics of two levels, please tell me what you think of them and what doesn't please your eyes (like bad color palette or something like this)

One Level:
It has not really a theme but in the second half there are mushrooms which let you bounce.
Just a Jump'n'Run for the first level.

The other level:
You have to climb a mountain here. It's based around ninjis, rotating plattforms and parachuting goombas.

I need feedback to fix flaws, so pls write something!!
I will also post a video of one of these levels in the next days, just give me some time.
It also motivates me to show more of my stuff here before submitting anything.

I really like the palette in your first level, it feels sunset. The second one is also fine, but won't the original SMW clouds fit better? Or did it feel too empty with these?
Yeah, those levels sure look dandy.
The first two screens look slightly better, if just for the awesome backgroudn.
Also, if those orange dots on the first screen is actually the spores spit by the plant, than maybe you wanna work on those because you can't really tell them appart :>
Anime statistic on MyAnimeList:
400 animes completed ✓
6000 episodes completed ✓
100 Days completed ✓
... what even am I doing with my life?
Those levels are looking great! Just great! Aesthetics are very nice in those screens. The level design also looks pretty nice. You have pretty interesting ideas. I like how you made the color tones like each other in the first level, but in the second level, you didn't do that. While it doesn't look awful, it can be better if you do it. In the first level, everything has a tone of orange/red/yellow. In the second level, the background has tones of blue/green/cyan, while the foreground has tones of orange/yellow. So yeah, there are no other flaws I see. Sorry for overlooking, I'm not really trying to overlook.
@ Wormer21
Thank you very much! I tried the original smw clouds before the smb3 ones but I didn't like the outcome. But I will think about it once more.

@JackTheSpades
Oh...fixed :D

These are the new spores. They now have a black outline to seperate them from the BG some more.

@S.R.H
I will try to make a better palette, this will take some time and if I don't succeed, I will keep the old one.
Not a pro with palettes right now...

Thank you all for the responses!!!

The second I saw the second screen I thought "Tails_115 decoration", unfortunately. The rest of these levels look decent though, even if the background in the first two screenshots looks a little out of place.
I don't know the style of Tails_115 so I cannot say if this is good or bad. Could you be more precise with your jugdement of the decoration?
About the background: Yeah in the first part of the level some other backgrounds could fit better, but the levels second half is more filled with lineguided stuff and I wanted to have a consistent background.

Tails_115 spammed decoration all over his levels with no rhyme or reason to it. Holes in solid ground, lines of floating dirt, insanely stupid landforms, etc. The decoration in level 2 reminds me of that, but it's not quite to that level.

I'm...not sure what you're saying.
Ah ok now I get it. The problem with the second level is, that it looks very empty when you take away the dirt and I don't really like that.

Sorry, I'm not that good with english.
What I tried to say: Level 1 turns into something like this after the first half:

There the BG fits (I thought you said that the BG for the first level looks to much like it would be a level in the sky.)

My Inspiring Quotes on Personal Growth and Change:

"Resolved financial/personal problems equal greater growth!"

"The only constant thing in life is change; nothing is set in stone. The old is replaced with the new. Forgive yourself for past mistakes. When many different problems in your life are resolved (personal, financial, etc.), newfound strength and confidence is gained in the process. Usually, failures, lack of assertiveness, disappointments, incompetence, low self-esteem and lack of self-respect, financial struggles, and setbacks can cause us to change and take action to solve any problem, leading to increased strength and confidence. This you learn from experience.

I have been experiencing this aforementioned newfound strength and confidence myself for the past FOUR to EIGHT years or so, getting stronger with each passing year, learning with each mistake I make and becoming more joyful in the process. Because of this newfound confidence I've acquired over the years, finding my passion is of utmost importance in 2022! You can develop this strength and confidence in yourself as well!"

To whoever's reading this, you are amazing and you are capable of doing equally amazing things. Gather confidence and be yourself! Say goodbye to the old you and welcome the new you! It wants to arise every moment, but you don't let it. Learn from your mistakes and never make that mistake again! Find your passion and live it!"

Finding my passion in life, but I may still be active on SMWCentral from time to time. Still enjoy playing many hacks, but I'm widening my perspective on life and opening myself to the new.
I finally managed to record a video of the first level.
Sorry for the black borders, I'm not really a professional youtuber
But here you can see the complete first level of the hack
Lags are caused by my laptop, which is the only device I can currently record with.

As a Bonus I will also show some pics of a level I just finished.
This level is the only "water" level in this hack, cause no one really love those ;)

Nice water graphics, I like the transition in it. All other graphics look also nice, I can't tell too much from the design. Looks decent enough.
Another post, another level.

Mario starts this level at the beach and has to cross the ocean.

But after a few steps he gets caught by pirates and thrown into their prison.

After fighting his way out of the prison, he finds himself on a ship.

There's only one possibility for Mario. Jumping from one ship to the next. After a few ships the daytime changes.

A few ships later, it already night. But the ships are on the other side of the ocean now.

But there are still a few pirates at the other beach. So Mario has to keep moving.

Finally he gets to a village of the toads, where he is save.

Sorry for the long pause, but I can't show much more, when a hack has so few levels and worlds.
Maybe I will show the overworld next.
Pls comment and state your oppinions

Wow, everything looks great. Maybe the pirate flag could have more shading with some dithering.

I just realized that I never commented on this Hack so far... You´ve done a really good job so far! Especially the first Screenshots look GREAT and the rest somehow reminds me of Mawwo7´s older Hacks, which is nice... It would be great, if you could post a video of one of the levels, to show off the leveldesign in more detail, but so far everything looks quite promising. :)
C3 stuff: http://www.smwcentral.net/?p=viewthread&t=67626 HDMA-Codes and Custom Music included!

I've just started looking at this project. So far, the level I really like the most is the pirate level. It looks well-designed, and it has a creative story to it with Mario being captured, the ships moving, and finding the Toads on the island. Great work!

I don't like the other levels as much. The pirate level was full-on chocolate, but the others have a more vanilla style, which makes for two clashing styles within one hack. If I were you (and you totally don't have to do this, this is just me) I'd convert the first levels into a more chocolate style, or convert the pirate level into vanilla -- whichever style you want the hack to ultimately be. That would make for a more polished and organized look.

Anyway, nice work, especially on the story aspects. I'd like to see more levels that continue the story, like the pirate level. Looking forward to more!

Thank you. I will try to add some shading, but this will be one of the last things I will do, before publishing this game.

Thanks for that. I am very happy, that so many people like the colors of the first level. I will post one or two videos of gameplay here, before I finish, but I can show more.
This hack will only feature about 10 levels, so showing of more than 3 in depth would be...dumb :D Potential players could think, that there is no point in playing anymore. But there will come more!

I was also thinking about keeping this hack pure vanilla/chocolate, but I figured out, that only thinking in those categories would hold me back. I'm sorry to say that, but I'll have custom grafics and vanillaish grafics in this hack side by side.
I'm also sorry to say, that the pirate level is somehow unique with it's story.
There are also some other elements, like climbing on a mountain and lay open a sea to cool down a vulcano in the next level. But no level has it's own story like the pirate level.
I hope this doesn't disappoint you too much.
BTW, I'm loving your hack reviews :D

OK, now to something new:
Today I created a little "bonus game". It's optional, but you need it to 100% the game. I recorded a video of the bonus, which is located in Mario's House.
You can watch it here!
Any lags are again only caused by my shitty laptop -.-
I still need some help with this, because I'm not really pleased, how the soundeffects turned out. So if anyone know better SFX of the original SMW or has a custom SFX, that would fit, please tell me.
Also I never played the original, so please tell me, if it looks authentic.
(the idea came to me while watching WeegeeBen's review about Skye goes to town ;))
Enjoy and comment =)

Hehe, nice bonus XD
I have a few minor complaints though: wow. Flappy looks like he got REALLY fat. I wonder why? Also, the horizontal space between pipes should be smaller. Also, the sound effect heard when Flappy dies gets cut. I wonder why? Also, I think you can use the "WRONG" sound effect for it.

Also, this is the right usage of ASM in a choconilla hack. Nice job. As a reward, here, have a 1-UP mushroom. #lm{insgfx}
New Update!
But first:

Flappy Bird is as big as it's hitbox. I would draw it thinner, but this would lead to some frustrating restarts (which Flappy Bird already has enough of). I can try to strech it a bit, but I can't say if it works.
I don't really know why the soundeffects gets cut. Could have to do with the fact that you are teleported at the same time. Will change it to the wrong sound effect and try to add a little delay to the teleport.
But thanks for the suggestions.

I'm currently about 85% finished with this hack. Then I will ask for some testers. But there are many things left to do, especially small stuff.

As it was requested I have uploaded a video of another level of this hack. (I'm still try stuff out with the format so sorry for the black borders -.-)
You also see some other stuff in this video, like a small portion of the overworld.
Another thing I want to point out is that I tried to link all levels together. The level before this one was the pirate level. You start this level right there where you left off.
Some input would be nice.
Thx.

It's very disappointing to double post this =( I was hoping to get some opions and you had a whole level to see. But whatever.

Now, two month after I started this thread and 6 month after I started the project, I am finished with almost every level/sublevel.
only the last level and the credits are missing.
I also already fixed some of the stuff that was mentioned here.
So this project will soon go into it's beta phase.

But I also got something to show:
This is the fourth level of the hack and you start out in a cave.

As you progress, you get into an area with has minecarts.

(that was close#smw{^_^;})
(also don't worry. Before you come to the part, which is shown in the pictures, you will be introduced to the minecarts in safe areas.)

As you get deeper in the cave, the temperature rises and lava will be a threat to you.

You also have some parts with the floating skulls.

So...any thoughts?
