Quote Other than that, what are the palette and the tiles on the river (moat?) supposed to represent? That part looks kind of wonky to me.
See: this picture: There's a brick wall leading down towards the moat.
QuoteStuff about black text with white outline
I did it that way to make it consistent with the title since the inconsistency of the other way really bothered me, but if everyone wants white text with black outline, consider it done.
Quoteit'd be cool if the balloons were replaced with sprites that start out close together from the bottom of the screen and moved away from each other as they floated up. I guess.
That's completely beyond my capabilities but if someone else wants to do it once I hand it off to the project, it's more than welcome. Mental note to enable layer priority on the overworld border for this.
QuoteAlso, a slight art nitpick: I think the "P" in Production should be made a little fatter to be more consistent with the rest of the letters in the word, like so: *img*
Yeah, that looks a lot better.
QuoteIt looks pretty swell so far! I like the theme, and the palettes are fairly pleasing for the most part, if maybe a bit bright. The screen border may need a little more touching up or at least made more subtle, though, because it really stands out.
QuoteI really love the border, that's probably the best part of it. However, the yellow is way too bright, you cannot see the yellow star inside of it. Consider making the yellow colour lighter, making the star a different colour or just making that particular star darker.
Will make the yellow a little darker and maybe adjust the other colors. The palette is shared with the title so I'll have to switch it to another palette out if it makes the title too dark.
QuoteThe background seems a bit basis. I know you want to add more too it but I would definitely make it much darker at the bottom, not make the path all one solid colour, more light and shade, etc.
Partially declined. Mario's all about being bright and simple - I feel like we'd be back to square one if we made it darker and more detailed since that led to complaints about the original title screen being too gloomy. The theme of this is a princess's birthday. I will, however, add a little bit of grass texture. If the whole thing gets any darker, it's going to be a
baby step.
QuoteThe balloons' shading seems a bit weird. I like the roundness at the top but I think you need to smooth out the darker parts. ALso, I wouldn't make the whole circle of the balloon white - maybe at the bottoms of the balloons it could be darker?
Will consider replacing them with a light color along the bottom, but definitely not black because it looked horrible this way.
QuoteThe letters seem very pixally to me. I think you should space them out more - they look squashed as is. In particular, the Cs and Es are bothering me.
It'll eat up a lot more graphics space to do this and I'd like to try to stay within two files. The SMB truetype font prints with letters often overlapping a little and that led to a little bit of crud here and there at this small size so there's obviously still work to do on it.
QuoteI think if we're going to use it, "1.5" should be put beside it (unless we are getting rid of the original entirely).
Absolutely not including 1.5 in the title. A version number is not part of a title. If anything, it's a footnote or a "readme" filler.
Just look above you...
If it's something that can be stopped, then just try to stop it!
