Hello! Welcome to my thread. This is for my new hack Grabbit. I showed the first level off in C3 so if you want to see more information and even a video you can click this very fancy link:

This is the first level, Grass Grotto Galaxy.

As for the hack itself it will involve exploring short levels around the universe while collecting treasure. I'll thicken the story out as I work on the later levels.

Not much else to say but I look forward to showing more levels soon.

Back again with an update! Second level!



Caveside Galxay



Can you tell how this galaxy got it's name? In this level you climb upwards through a tall cave. Oh if you hadn't guessed yet if you eat 20 carrots you get an extra life. They are not hidden too hard however there are 1UP's which are out of the way, hidden in each level.
Can you show the cave? Or just the secound screen?
Anyway good work for now. I like rabbits. ^^'

Wow, this sure is looking great! As Underway already said, the concept is really nice! Gives me lots of inspiration. Would you mind if I make a hack LIKE this? Not the exact idea, but similar to it.
Yayguy: Thanks! As for the cave it's quite open so you can see the stars in the background. There will be more cavey parts later!

Oh wow, he is right, it sure does look like Cat Mario =)

Anyways, this is looking very nice! I love your graphic style here. This also will be one of the rare hacks I will play.

Showing off a Gold Bunny. These treasures will give you a 1UP. One is hidden in each level. Not to far off the beaten path though...

As for upates they may be slow as I'll be busy with real life stuff the next couples weeks. Hold on tight though as I'll be showing off a new level then.
Cat Mario = Hard and unfair.

Gold bunny looks so cute! I really love how it looks. Also, maybe a :3 face instead of a ._. face would be better (about the player graphics, not the gold bunny, however, if you add a cute face to that gold bunny too, bonus points!).

Also, seems like I am the only one to complain about it, but isn't that a bit easy to find? Just looks like it. Maybe add some enemies? I know that you didn't really show much, but if the player notices the rope, he/she would be able to find it easily.

I like the minimalistic GFX Design, reminds me a bit of Cave Story, dont know why. I am really looking forward to see more of this, keep up with this work, I'll definitly check this hack out when it's finished!

It reminds me of Cave Story as well, even though I never played it. It seems like a mix of The Lion King, Cave Story, and really true creativity mixed to make the perfect combination of 3 things.

I adore the cute and simple graphic style here, and your video does a good job of demonstrating the kinds of things that set this apart from Mario. I'm assuming the HP of those tall green cactus dudes is remembered even when the sprite is offscreen rather than letting the sprite reset since sometimes you need to travel away to get a block to throw - if so, good thinking.

About the HUD: the X[Lives] thing is kinda weird, since what the number means isn't really represented, and the X is kinda big. I'd shrink the X and put a graphic of Grabbit to the left of it since the player's face is synonymous with "lives" in many HUDs.

Just look above you...

I would probably say go in a similar route like SMWCP2 and have a HUD come down when you pause that has your lives on it or something.

Anyways, looks great! A really big departure from typical Mario world hacks. Reminds me of certain indie games honestly.

Dem Replies. Thanks! I have not shown much of after C3 as my internet is on/off plus I started my new job (yay...) Anyway the joy with Grabbit is that the levels are shorter than most levels you see in hacks so it means this project should be successful! I hope to have an update on sunday or saterday.

Zeldaboy: I might look up Cat Mario again and maybe get some ideas from it. Nothing too hard though.

S.R.H: Cheers for the idea for the :3 face. I did try that but I didn't like it much. I went for the ._. one as I found it funny how neutral and plain his expression it XD As for the 1UP near the rope it is actually a small challenge to reach as you need to jump off an enemy at the right time to reach it.

DaXShock: It's funny you mention Cave Story as the level above reminds me of the Outer Wall in that game. (maybe I'll do a level like that..)

Counterfeit: I'm glad people like yourself have enjoyed the GFX style I went for. I always like to try something different or something that's "out there". But yeah thanks! As for the HUD that is a good idea which I did have in mind... It was just me needing to get around to doing it! ahaha :)
