Blocking users

Now don't get me wrong, this is a great community, but there are a few users (who shall remain nameless) who I don't want posting on my threads or sending me PM's etc. What if there were a function where you could stop people from posting on your threads or stuff along those lines?
Your suggestion seems rather pointless considering that's one of the reasons why we have staff members to begin out with, and that is to deal with conflicts. With that in mind if you are having any trouble with a user just contact a staff member, we're more then capable of diffusing tense situations.

No. No matter how many times it is brought up, users will NEVER get any control of who can post in their threads.

I have already stated this several times: Threads that you create are NOT your property. They should not be considered yours. They belong to the community and everyone should be able to participate in them as equals.

Kieran responded to something like this a few years back. I highly doubt the stance on this has changed. The staff members can deal with problems that arise in personal threads (or any thread).

The PM block thing is an interesting idea. I think the best thing however for now is to contact a staff member (or an administrator if you want them to look at your actual PMs).
Admins can read your PMs if you notify them that you have received a hostile message.

I can't understand why you would want to block people from posting in your threads, though. Even if you hate the person, if they provide discussions that are on-topic, they deserve to post in the thread. Now, if they spammed nonsense in the thread, that's where you just message a mod the link to the post, etc.
As I have said before, barring a few exceptions (personal threads, e.g. projects, RC, etc.), we support no concept of thread ownership. That means threads you post are not yours to control, but rather, they are part of the community and belong to everyone.

Needless to say, having regular users be able to prevent other regular users from posting in threads they've started goes very poorly with this philosophy.

As for blocking people from sending you PMs... well, that's argurably a useful feature and one that we might consider implementing at some point. To be honest, though, I would rather that the staff were notified of PM abuse so we can deal with the root of the problem directly.
