Super Mario 64 2 - Days Through Darkness (SM64 2 Sequel Revival)

Well this is awkward I guess I'm not the only one who's making a sequel to SM64, but oh well! #w{=P}

As some people know, Nintendo was going to make a sequel to SM64 back in 1999 for the NIntendo 64DD (Disk Drive). However, with the lack of progress and the fail of the release of the N64DD, the game has been unreleased. But, why not taking a second chance to it?

Super Mario 64 2 - Days Through Darkness
(not final title)

Introducing the revival of the sequel of the one and only: Super Mario 64!

___________________________________________

This hack will include:

- 150+ Stars to collect
- New Custom Enemies (Bosses) and objects
- Amazing Well-Designed Levels
- Star Coins to collect
- Playable Luigi (select on menu M/L)
- A Plot with plenty of twists...
- And of course, some more Goomba stopping!

Now I always hear people complaining: "Why doesn't SM64 have any story?". Well we can change that...

STORY: It all starts in the day of Mario's Birthday when Mario was asleep at his house. He wanted to go to the Mushroom Kingdom to celebrate but then sees that Bowser once again is causing something mischievous by bringing all his army into Peach's Kingdom to take over with the help of his deadly trains/tanks. But is that all to Bowser's evil plot?...

I've been working on this project for nearly a year now and made a few levels. (I would appreciate some comments or feedback; I'll try accepting everybody's ideas)

Sneak Peak (Preview): Palm Tree Paradise

(This is an early look at one of the Bowser Courses; And indeed the trains will be in motion during the whole sequence of the level)
Wow that looks great! It looks like something in SM3DW. How will you get the trains to move? I know you could make a custom object and set the trajectory, but idk if it can be looped (if it went in a circle). I would love to see your other levels. :D

Oh thank you very much pieordie1 #tb{:)}. So for that train level, I wanted to make it like 2.5D concept (basically Mario goes left to right). And so for the train to move, well you'll just have to find that out when I release the game.

@MilleniumLuigi: Just trying my best here! But your levels are also creative as well!
Really impressed, especially by first level.
For the moving train, let me guess: the train is still but scrolling textures on the ground and on the railroad give the impression of movement.
Yes, that's gonna be a high quality hack (again). I'm following this.

I'm also working on a kind of "minecart"/train thing in my SM64 Hack. I'm currently making a SM64 Hack which is a kind of "sandbox" way you can play online over Project64k, allowing you to spawn all kind of objects and place textures of course. Those "minecarts" which I'm currently re-making in my hack should follow the "rail" textures. Maybe I could give you the final result of my editing to you in case you want it of course.

Color me impressed. I am really starting to love this so much.

Haha well I was going to explain that later on but I guess I don't need to anymore. But you gotta admit that isn't such of a bad idea right?

@BS187: Glad you love my work!

@Tarek701: Thanks and well that seems pretty creative. Hope this project goes well for you!

Actually it's a great idea!
How blast the project have uncanny features we'd expect to see! And the train stage, not much I'd mention it's just fantastic!

I'm a bit disappoint for Nintendo not having the sequel developed as it was planned, yet they made a DS remake, which is still, a good game as ever), but since fans would brought a sequel of their own, I'm stll looking forward, giving a perpetual motivation for those who make it.
SUPER CRASH TIME YEAH!

Well thanks then! #w{=P}

@Mariocrash: I'm disappointed as well. Also with the Nintendo 64DD, they were also going to make a sequel or other games (like Ocarina of Time). I think that if these games were actually released back in the year of 1999, it would have give a boost to my childhood.

So, that's how I got the idea from, to revive the sequel from the game. The only thing mentionned about the game was that it was going to feature both Yoshi and Multiplayer (meaning Luigi was going to be part of the game as well).
This is really neat, keep going on it I wish you luck!

The fist level looks so expansive

That first level, Palm Tree Paradise looks like a level from Super Mario Sunshine.
Considering the fact that he hasn't posted in this topic for 2 years, I would say that this is probably dead.
Congratulations! You have just met BroDute's number 1 fangirl.

I agree, unless OP wants to continue with the project or make updates, etc. PM me, until then, I'll close the thread.
Thread has been reopened.
Ahh I haven't been on this forum for awhile!
Now you guys might be thinking... IS THIS HACK SILL ALIVE?
Don't worry I will explain everything right now.

Now, what I have realized from my previews is that many people were giving me many positive feedbacks about my level designing skills, and I would like to say that I feel very appreciated! But to be honest, I wasn't even planing on even giving ANY info about the game at all! In fact, this project wasn't even suppose to be even revealed for another year or so. Let me explain...
Two years ago, I came with a clash with FrikeTheDragon about SM64 hacking. With that, we decided to go our sepreate ways and make our own hacks. At first, we indivulally both came with the idea of reviving the SM64 sequel (SM64 2) at the same time (which I thought it was freaky to be honest).

But after our separation, I noticed that FTD (FrikeTheDragon) posted some of his content about his new hack: SM64 2. With that, I thought of releasing previews of my hack as soon as possible to reassure that I have not taken the idea of FTD in order to revive the sequel.

So why I did I wanted to first preview my hack later on? Well, do you see any progress going on? Not really... making these levels takes a huge amount of time! Seriously, it took me about 6-7 months only to finish the level design of Palm Tree Paradise.
So if I am basically slow on progress, why would I show a preview? I wanted to wait until I have done a lot more progress so that I can finally reveal my new hack.

Do I need help? Oh man so much! That's basically the reason why I wanted to work with FTD, to collaborate and finish my hack faster (and prefarably getting a better hack; I MEAN DID YOU LOOK AT THE LEVEL DESGIN OF FTD; HES SO GOOD!) anyway... I really just hope that an exprienced ASM hacker *cough Kaze *cough can help me out on this one to make this hack even better!

I just wanted to let you guys up to date on this project. Now you guys fear that it will be canceled? Nawh, don't even expect that to happen, I've already worked on it for 2,5 years or so, I don't think I wanna throw all the work away!

So in reality, don't expect this hack to get any updates for a very long time! But just know, that a SM64 2 hack will arrive some day (as well as FTD's of course).

PS. I am very sorry for the poor English grammar; I sort of wrote this in a rush, and didn't had time to recheck my spelling and sentences.

PS. #2: The design of Palm Tree Paradise has been heavily improved (so that screenshot on the very top is basically a beta of the stage).
Well I sort of figured that the hack wouldn't come out for a long time but when it does, I look forward to seeing it!
Congratulations! You have just met BroDute's number 1 fangirl.

there are 2 requirements for me to do asm hacking for someone else:

1 - hack looks good
2 - i think the hack will be completed

so, i might help you, after you have some progress done. one finished level in 2 years doesn't look like it's going to be finished to me, to be perfectly honest.
