Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan)

I actually rather like the dub from what I heard of it (the first five episodes). I think one of the problems people had was that because the first episode takes place several years in the past, the first impression you get of each character's voice is based on what they sound like as a child. These aren't the voices that they keep through the entire show.

Funimation also tightened up their translation over the sub a bit too, which is nice. A number of parts definitely feel more natural.
I should get a new layout.

Probably won't, though.
After suffering through a couple of Toonami aired episodes, I must say still very much dislike the dubbing. I don't care if their excuse is that their voices are different in the characters' younger days. The actors that Funimation so diligently picked don't come close to the doing justice to the emotion that the original actors emphasized (even in THEIR performanced of the younger characters). In my opinion, the english dialog just sounds forced. When comparing the new dubs to the original japanese voice-acting, I feel like I'm watching Soul-Eater or Bleach or some other lower-quality anime. A prime example of this is when I finally had the displeasure of hearing Keith Shadis' english voice actor, Patrick Seitz croaking his lines like some silly Inuyasha(dub) character, as opposed to the gritty cold snarl of Tsuguo Mogami's performance. Which brings me to my other point. Bryce Papenbrook? Seriously!? That whiney bitch is supposed to be Eren fucking Jaeger!? Eren who boils with resentment, deturmination and hatred towards the titans? The Eren I remember so fondly who sounds bitter, guttural and fuming with rage in every register of his voice? A voice which Bryce could never do justice, no matter how hard he tried as he just sounds whiney in every attempt.

To me, it just feels like Funimation just got their mits all over another cash-cow and rushed the shit out of releasing english dubs as soon as possible while all the hype was still up and about. It's almost as if once Attack on Titan crossed into the U.S., the growing popularity fermented it into one big fat rancid cheese-ball. I've never liked Funimation; probably never will. The only reason I found the last few dubs of Hellsing Ultimate tolerable was because the actors were already chosen before Funimation seized its rights. Good thing too, since Funimation seems to pick the SAME DAMN handul of voice-actors for EVERYTHING they dub.

I will cease to partake in anymore Toonami aired or even englished dubbed bastardizations of this masterpiece, in fear that I may begin to dislike Attack on Titan altogether(manga included). Not that the dubs are absolutely terrible; they just don't come close to flattering such a work of art and much more time and diligence could have been put into perfecting it.

Upon reading this, you probably think I'm some unfavorable snob and you're probably right, but the question regarding that is, do I care?
My layout has removed you.
@Face: Taken into account. The asking price for the DVD/BD release of Attack on Titan is ridiculous. I'll watch a couple of dubbed episodes and gauge whether it's worth it, but I'm leaning towards no or at least not until it's like half the price.

Just look above you...
If it's something that can be stopped, then just try to stop it!
Oh god, not a dub, I hate dubs with a burning passion.

As for the show though, I have the biggest love hate relationship with it, mostly hate though. It was fine at first but all those cliffhangers and that pacing was just fucking unbearable, especially the pacing, it didn't help that I watched this while it was airing too which is my fault, I know, but still.

All that hate I've developed (which developed before the series was halfway over) just stayed throughout and I couldn't really get rid of it so yay!11 And we all know that it's hard to change and appreciate something when you hate it so much. I don't rewatch series whatsoever so may I forever frown upon this show, I'm surprised I didn't drop it at all.
The manga is extremely slow at the moment, too. They've been discussing a battle plan and the conspiracies of the government for a good 5 chapters now, which is about 200-300 pages. Not fun.

I just want to know the answers to all of the questions uuuurgh
