SMW3 - Legend of the Diamond Star - First screenshots!

Standard

This hack is made because I really didn't have the inspiration to work on Tropical Lemon Vacation, so you have this. This hack has a lot of elements that were going to be in the previous one, so... yeah. Let's get right to the first screenshots.

The story for the hack.

World 1: Rivercut Islands

1-1: Blueberry Bushes

Mario on his way to a bonus area.

Shell course shortly after the midpoint. I just realised the vine will create cutoff, but I fixed it before posting this.

Just an underground bonus area.

Right at the end.

So, what do you think?
I don't even know what I'm actually doing anymore... will I ever finish a hack?
The levels look fine. Just don't go overboard on the dirt decor.

Also, why is there a little cutoffy yellow area in the submap picture?
I liked the idea from the hack have elements of rogueport. Have an yellow strange area in the OW. Is an desert level? Or rogueport? And the blue berrys, are because why?
C3 Over.

Some hack things why i are feedbacking on.

MY HACK what I are working on.

The yellow area isn't Rogueport because the C5 into says it's an island west from Rogueport. (the area to the right is just another part of the map and not Rogueport. The yellow area is supposed to be a beach level, but I can see how it makes cutoff.

You're not actually going to go to Rogueport in this hack, I just added it in there for a PM: TTYD reference and for story purposes. (e.g Prof. Frankly being in the hack.

The berries are just a different colour to make it seem like you're in a new, unexplored island.

I was putting a lot of dirt decor around because a lot of people complained about that in A Shroomy Tale, which is cancelled because I lost it.
I don't even know what I'm actually doing anymore... will I ever finish a hack?
I see why you put much lives in the level. Because in the last screen, Mario has 7 lifes.

MY HACK what I are working on.

Actually I don't really mind using dirt decoration if you're using it like in this screen, but I'll agree that if you're using it just for decoration with no purpose you might want to look for different decorations, not like they look bad at all but it'd be good to avoid using it excessively.

As for the submap you've showed, I like the idea of making a transition from yellow tiles to green, but it doesn't look good at all - perhaps, draw a few custom tiles to make the transition look better. I'd also make the path of the yellow area look brighter or somewhat better to stand out.

The rest of the hack looks good overall, some spots look a bit generic but I think you're doing a good job. Keep working!

You could also just lower the yellow part, that might be easier than drawing custom tiles.

There is a bug that allows Mario to pass through slopes if there is a solid ledge underneath. You should change that part.

Overall, I like where this is going. About the dirt decorations, just make sure you don't overdo it. The geometry in the 5th screenshot is already a bit too crazy.
Nonetheless, keep going!
I really like the direction this hack is going and Blueberry Bushes seems to be the best you have designed from what I can see. I advise that you change the cave palette so it is more fitting or else it will look a bit weird when contrasted with Blueberry Bushes (and possibly other levels) as the underground section does not have any dirt decoration or anything that is reminiscent of the style of Blueberry Bushes. The submap seems fine but there should be some sort of transition from green to yellow tiles or else it will look cutoff.
I like your ideas there and here, but I think you should change the cave palette, maybe try to make it brown-ish? I'm saying this cause the dirt in Blueberry Bushes is brown. I like your level design overall, you have some nice ideas. I also like your submap, but the transition between yellow and green is not smooth at all. I think it would better if you change it into a yellow-ish tone of green, or maybe make it a small island, but this is just my opinion, it still is up to you.
the palettes on the levels could use a little work, but beyond that, looks good
