A Hack Thing 2 (released to the public)

Standard

No plot. Just level design and aesthetics.

First level isn't done, but here, have some screens!

Why is Mario standing on the background?

work in progress

Yeah, there's no palette space for me to make new colors for those platforms so I might as well replace them with normal ledges.
Well, it looks good so far, but there's really not too much to say about (there's only four shots of an incomplete level, after all.)

Even if there were palette space for the forground SMB3 ledges, I would still favor using normal ledges instead. I usually don't like it when hacks use the same tiles for the foreground and background in a level.

Not bad with the design, I can clearly see that you are improving. The graphics seem to fit quite nicely in the level although there are a few areas that could be improved. One thing that concerns me is that some foreground and background objects look very similar and even though it is probably noticeable with the background scrolling, I would advise you to make them a bit distinct from each other.

That was already fixed by the time I made the video I just posted.

Level 2. It was pretty fun to make, with every platform being a pipe.

Actually, that level looks very unfun to play. The level looks very tedious and overall boring without too much FG variation to make it look interesting.
It also shows just how OP the spin jump is.
I really need a layout. :<

1) Really? I thought I had enough secrets, enemies and other things to keep it interesting.
2) That makes no sense whatsoever.

1: The terrain looks very blocky...
2: Judging by the spinjump abuse, at least.

I agree that the all-pipe foreground and background looks a little repetitive. Personally, I think it'd be nice to set this level in a cave so that you can use the SMB1/SMB3 cave music.

1) Not much you can do when the whole level is made of pipes, really.
2) I was talking about your use of OP. To my knowledge there is no other meaning for that other than "Original Post".

I probably put the cloud background from Butter Bridge behind the pipes in the background. I do agree that the background is boring so I might as well change it.

Firey Floral Forest. If it's still processing then just wait because Youtube sucks like that.

You could at least use small bits of land in some parts or add other pipe colors (green/blue/yellow all the time looks boring).

Over-Powered.

E: Just watched the video, the level looks fun!

1) The leafy BG color palette looks a bit saturated and doesn't transition too well to the lighter colors (actually, it's the bad transition that makes it look saturated). Remember, the lightest color has to look a bit similar to the sky color (in this case, a blue-ish green); LM's gradient tool can help you with that.

2)Those floating cutoff vines really don't look that good... maybe you could draw some stuff like vine ends and flower heads for them.

3)You should set the vertical scrolling rate to "Vertical Scroll at Will" to prevent stuff like what happended in 0:48 ~> 1:00 from happening.

4) The enemy variety in the second section really looks lacking, flying Koopas might make things more interesting.

5) It's spelled "Fiery".

Yeah Fiery Floral Forest is kinda decent level. The vine cutoff isn't that nice to leave it....

1) I tried playing with it, and I didn't really have the patience to fix the colors...maybe I'm too impatient.
2) if you saw what i have drawn, you would faint from the absolute horror that it is
3) Done.
4) I could play with it I suppose.
5) derp k

Have a demo. I changed some names, Lakitu Land is now Lakitu Rampage!, Pipe-a-palooza is Pipe Party (great, I just had a better name pop into my head. Pipe Plaza).

It's kinda late so there won't be a video of level 4 until tomorrow.

also can someone make me a thwomp boss

I had some fun with this one. The boss at the end has yet to be coded and that's why it cuts off there.
Level 5

The next level will be longer and harder.
And have a low gravity gimmick.
Released.

Can someone move this to the Full Hack Releases forum? Thanks.
