well shit, it's time to return to golden egg and defeat jimbo
Well, as promised, here is the Beta for the Yoshi's Island AddMusic tool I've been working on, which I am releasing specifically for this contest so that anyone can use it:

Download Link for YI AddMusic

As of now, it's still pretty limited. Despite the name, the tool actually can't add any more songs; it can only replace existing ones, and as of right now it's only limited to replace the level music. This will change in the final version, however. As TLMB also stated in the submission thread, you have to do the inserting manually. The program takes an MML file as input and converts it to a .bin. I included documentation of the offsets of all the songs though, so it shouldn't be too hard.

Harumi and I have also spent some time porting songs to YI so you guys all have something to use for your contest levels, if you wish to use custom music. So far there are 7 ports, I'd have liked to have made more, but I've been pretty busy and school just started for me, so there's that.

Make sure you all read the readme before doing anything, keep in mind that this is still a beta, and there are probably some bugs I haven't found. If you happen to find any bugs when using this, don't hesitate to send me a PM or inform me on IRC. But for the love of god, please do not flood my PM box with questions about how to use the tool; I included a readme for a reason. If you need any help, I'll probably be more likely to answer if you happen to catch me on IRC or something.

I should also mention that this is the only beta I'm going release before I finish the final version, which I am releasing exclusively for this contest. After the contest ends, I'm going to delete the link from my dropbox. I don't want this turning into another AMK.

Anyway, I've been looking forward to this contest all year, so I'm definitely going to be joining this.

EDIT:
I've made an ASM patch that will insert the custom music into the ROM for you. Not only do you no longer have to worry about inserting manually with a hex editor, but the patch also reallocates music pointers automatically, meaning that music data overflow is no longer a problem! Check out the readme for more details as to how it works.

I've never tried Yoshi's Island Level Design. Interesting stuff.
I'll give it a try if I don't puss out. :)
I never hacked Yoshi's Island but this contest seems interesting. Might give it a go especially with the length of time to create and submit.
Not sure if time allows me to participate. Still, at least this time, the true patch WILL be marked.

Coolio, but making them playable without tool usage as well as including stuff for 100% completion, that's gonna be the tricky part. I guess making it non-Kaizo is an option too.
Without tool usage includes without savestates at all, right?

SMW hacking channel

Let's try YI hacking out (yes, it's the first time I hacked YI).
At least this time, some actual effort will be put.(Also inserted a custom song into YI. Yay for NSMB 1-1!)

You still are going to make 5 more, like promised since we have 59ish days left til the end. The other 5 songs jimmy should convert from SMW to YI are open to suggestion, we are looking for cave/castle songs.

Also, I'd like to humbly apologize for my initial talkhaus quip I added in the side contest. It was meant to be a joke as they usually use the meme "SMWC wouldn't accept it for minimal cutoff." And I guess it would be more respectful to remove it (like S.N.N. did) since Horikawi sent a kind invitation to us for the MaGLX contest.
I wonder what a HFD opcode would do in ASM...
I hope I didn't miss reading this somewhere, but how long do we have to create our levels?
it's literally the first thing in the rules x_x

You have until June 4th (about 60 days, no extensions) at 11:59:49 PM Central Standard Time to make one level that you believe is a showcase of your best efforts.
So if Talkhaus members are joining, does that mean Raocow or someone is going to be making videos of the levels w/the commentary? I thought that was a good idea, but at first, it seemed like everytime something did not work right in my level, he laughed at me or made a weird joke.

Also, I think the idea of making level icons and and custom music, but will the judges be really critical? I mean b/c I am not really good at drawing, and I don't know how to write music, but I have a good idea for a level.

Also, would it be all right to ask someone to test my level? I wanted to ask S.N.N. or Yoshi's Fan if they will, but I don't know if they will be judges b/c you mentioned it will be anonymous. I don't know a lot of people who are good at testing levels and giving good feedback.

Raocow laughs at a lot of things during his LPs; I wouldn't take it personally.

It would be pretty cool to see raocow do another playthrough of the contest entries again. Though, I just hope my level doesn't end up pissing him off again, haha.
yeah man raocow laughs at literally everything, its just what he does.
Very very very shortly, this drab, workaday world and everything in it will be changed forever! Follow us into the golden country, into the empire of the senseless!

Firstly, I made this contest just to make this contest for SMWC and talkhaus users to join. I don't really know/expect raocow to let's play this contest out of obligation. It's his choice and I respect that, like he chose to play last year's contest out of his own will.

Secondly, I once made a level (To Land Much Below) that took raocow 3 takes (over 2 hours iirc) to make a decent youtube video before, and he did say a bunch of things that I personally wouldn't repeat. But take it with a grain of salt, raocow is pretty weird when it comes to judging levels. Of course, try to watch his video and see where you think he may be unhappy with, but don't let him drag your spirits down! Don't let anyone's insults break your spirit, just preserve and work hard to improve to make something awesome #smw{:peace:}.

Also look back to the judging from last contest (link in my signature), toward your level specifically, there should be some helpful tips in there to help you improve (hopefully).

That's awesome you have a good idea for a level, now execution of it is 100% of the judging score (50 out of 50 points). Level icons and custom music are just small bonus points that aren't necessary to get, It was just a small encouragement for people to try to do more. Custom music isn't a must since YI already has great music, but if you want to use it, there are 7 ports (5 more incoming) that are already ported for you to insert. Just focus on your level with a theme in mind.

Of course it's alright, heck you should do that if you wanna win (not YoshisFan though). I'm sure there are a few good people out there that are great fans of Yoshi's Island who are willing to help users *cough*, plus there is the entire subforum for you to scour for people, just send a friendly pm if they are available.

He already said he'd play it, don't worry.
