favorite legend of zelda game? least favorite?

We all know that the legend of zelda is a great series, so let's express what our favorite game in the series is. What about our least favorite? You can still like the game, it just needs to be the game that you think is the weakest, and no cdi games.

My favorite is the wind waker, it has bright and colorful graphics, it's never too cryptic, the characters are loveable, the side quests are noticeable, and there is a ton of exploration (I don't care what people say, the sailing is awesome).

My least favorite is twilight princess for the opposite of every reason that I like wind waker. The graphics have almost no color to them, I needed a YouTube guide right next to me the entire time I played because the puzzles seemed unsolvable, I hate almost every character in the game, and I beat the entire game without doing a single side quest, why? Because they don't stand out a bit. The exploration wasn't too bad, but it seems much better in other games.

What's your opinion?
Yes, I know, I don't have an avatar, I can't find any damn pictures that are small enough >:(

Out of the ones I played, my favorite one to this day is still quite possibly Ocarina of Time (even though it is hyped as fuck). Motives being enjoyable dungeons, epic overall atmosphere, enjoyable characters, simple yet memorable story, etc. I would otherwise say Twilight Princess (I thought they did a great job on the overworld in that game, and I actually enjoyed the darker art direction) if only it weren't for those tedious "let's go save this area from Twilight" moments.

As for a least favorite, I guess I would have to go with Link's Awakening (again, out of the games I played; heard bad things about Skyward Sword but never gave it much attention). Can't really put my finger on what specifically I disliked about it - guess I just found it really random. And boring overall. Though I actually tend to dislike most 2D Zeldas, so.. yeah.

My favorite Legend Of Zelda game was Majora's Mask. While retaining the almost identical gameplay of Ocarina of Time, it had some fancy sidequests (although that Kafei's Mask Sidequest was too annoying), nice concepts (Stone Tower Temple, for example), enemies, bosses, etc. And I liked the story, with a simple start, but some nice developments through the game.

And my least favorite... Link's Awakening or Oracle of Ages or Oracle of Seasons? These three are tied for me. I didn't have a nice thought of them when I played them. They kinda sucks.

Dream team (feed them, please):

My favorite is a tie between A Link Between Worlds and Link's Awakening. ALBW took all of the aspects that made LTTP great and then made them even better, and LA had some genuinely challenging puzzles and creative dungeon design (especially for an early GB game).

As for my least favorite .. Skyward Sword, hands down. The only good part of that entire game was the Lanayru region (the Sand Sea especially). Everything else felt lazy, uninspired, and boring to play. Yes, I'm looking at you, Tadtones.
I haven't played enough of TLOZ A Link Between Worlds, so up to now, the best TLOZ I like the most would be A Link to the Past. Not only because it was the first TLOZ I completed (100% complete, 0% gamefaqs), but because of everything (gameplay, music, graphics, everything!!)

Before I say my least favorite (more than less favorite, the one I like the least), I must say I don't really like 3D Zelda's. Yeah, I know it's supposed to be the best game in all history, but I don't like Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask even less. Sorry.

HOWEVER, my least liked Zelda game is definetly Wind Waker. The only thing I like about that game it's the soup. Seriously. I don't like anything of that game. The graphics? Bad. The Gameplay? Avarege in dungeons and towns, horrible at sea. And the game has way too much empty space.

Yeah, that's it.

My favourite Zeldas would be either Ocarina of Time or Wind Waker, OOT's plot really dragged me in, the dungeon design was great (Special mention goes to the Gerudo's Fortress :P) and the music/atmosphere topped it off.
As for WW, I liked the style (nice change from the 50-shades-of-brown FPSes doing the rounds currently) and the sailing gave me this feeling of exploration and discovery. As expected dungeon design was good, if not at OOT's level.no pun intended And unlike many people, I didn't hate Tingle for the map translation fees.

My least favourite would probably be the first one, it's really basic and dated, with no signposting whatsoever. It's also rock-hard later on. Yet somehow I enjoyed Zelda 2.

Yeah, the only reason I like that game is because I tried to imagine that I was in the game's time before all the newer games were out.

Twilight Princess is my favorite. It was the first Zelda game I played. I was unsure if I'd like it, but was pleasantly surprised on how enjoyable it was. Particularly, I liked the dungeon and puzzle designs.

As for my least favorite, would have to say Wind Waker. I just didn't find the game world as immersive as other games in the series. Maybe it was the graphical direction or the overall setting, but I just didn't really feel it.
Favorite Zelda games: Skyward Sword and A Link to the Past

With Skyward Sword I just don't know why so many people dislike it. For me it has the most fun gameplay in the whole series. Even regular sword battle is kinda fun in that game. The puzzles in that game are also pretty creative and funy and the final dungeon, although small, was damn smart! In Hero mode the game was also quite challenging. At least more challenging that all other 3D Zeldas.

As for A Link to the Past, I guess, I mostly like it for nostalgic reasons as it was the Zelda game I grew up with.

Least favorite Zelda games: Wind Waker and Ocarina of Time

Wind Waker just felt kinda unfinished to me. To me, dungeons are one of the most fun parts of any Zelda game. But Wind Waker had only, like... five or six of them. The game seemed to be all about exploring the ocean, which I didn't like simply because I got tired of the setting rather fast. The difficulty was also ridiculous. Probably as ridiculous as in Twilight Princess.

As for Ocarina of Time, I don't know... I used to like it somewhat. I guess the main reason I dislike it is because it's so overrated. For so many people it's one of the, if not THE best game of all times, even though it has a lot of obvious flaws. The overworld is kinda boring and empty, the dungeons are very linear and the game isn't very challenging, either. Sure, when it first released it might have even been one of the best games, but at least by my standards it aged kinda poorly and actually feels kinda empty and boring today. I think if it wasn't for its big name only few people would even like the game today.
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!
Ocarina of Time is my favorite Zelda game ever. When you have a Zelda game where you kind of "miss" the dungeon you just got through, that is a good Zelda game. Especially the Water temple. The music is the best I've ever heard in any video game ever. Everything just looks good, the story is great, and everything is just fun to do and figure out.

My least favorite is Zelda II. I can't even consider it to be a Zelda game. There's no puzzles, no enjoyment factor... Everything is just side-scrolling fighting and it's hard as heck, right from the beginning. Not to mention all the sexual references in the towns.

It's funny, because my next two favorite Zelda games under OoT are a tie between Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, and I like those both at the same time for the same reasons basically as OoT.

And my favorite 2D Zelda game is A Link to the Past. That game is awesome.

I AM ERROR
Yeah, that game was pretty bad. Definitely my least favourite LoZ game.
My favourite LoZ game is either Majora's Mask or Four Swords Adventure. Majora's Mask is so dark and creepy. I love it. As for Four Swords, I love the gameplay and how colourful everything is. The music is great too.

Man, I love me some Zelda II. Of course, it helps that I play it exceptionally well, but neither that nor nostalgia keep me blind to its faults. I think it's a genuinely fun game.

Of all the Zeldas I've completed, my favorite is still A Link to the Past and my least favorite is still Ocarina of Time. ALttP has exceptionally good flow on top of being the 2-D Zelda standard, allowing me to replay it countless times and never truly get bored. OoT, on the other hand, is overrated as crap and hasn't aged well. The engine is clunky and the story and ending are both pathetic, even by Zelda standards. Slapping OoT's level design on top of Wind Waker or Twilight Princess's engines would go a LONG way toward modernizing and improving the gameplay experience.

The three Zeldas that I've yet to complete, Majora's Mask, Phantom Hourglass, and Spirit Tracks, are remarkably low on my list of liked titles in the series. One of these days, I'll bring myself to finish them and I'll finally be able to quantify their placement on some kind of tier list.
A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening are my favourite 2D episodes. They both have an unique atmosphere: ALTTP probably has that nostalgia-factor which makes it even more special, but Link's Awakening's plot is just amazing and touching. I'm looking forward to play ALBW, it really looks like an excellent sequel #ab{:)} Minish Cap's also very good and original.

I can't say much about the 3D ones, since I still have to play Skyward Sword and Wind Waker. I loved Ocarina of Time, but I think Majora's Mask makes it up to the top: the time system may be a bit annoying at first, but it creates a creepy and distressing atmosphere which I absolutely adored, not to mention the variety it brings to the gameplay. The story's gorgeous as well.

I have to admit that the Oracle episodes (even though I only tried them) didn't drew me in like the other games; I also think Zelda II is one of my least favourite episodes, but that doesn't mean it's a bad game - I actually enjoyed it quite a lot, even if it's very hard and frustrating.

Yeah, I love creepy games, although I have yet to play that one. Can't wait. I gotta finish ALBW first, though. And lemme just say that, while ALBW is extremely and incredibly fun so far beyond belief, it's kinda
more of a port than a sequel
. So don't get
your hopes up insanely
for it to be
original
. The package even claimed
"brand new original dungeons"
, but the
East Palace is way too similar to the first.

Very true, they can be a bit boring. But not when you're making a hack for Ages. I love hacking the games as much as SMW.
I disagree with everything you said about ALBW, other than obviously the overworld being the same (with different NPCs and landmarks of course), everything was really rather original.
Except for Burger King making a comeback.
Your layout has been removed.
Wow, I never knew how much of a hipster I was with legend of zelda games, I like wind waker, skyward sword, and even zelda 2, and my least favorite is twilight princess (I still like the game, but just not as much as the others). That is quite different from what most people have said on this thread.
Yes, I know, I don't have an avatar, I can't find any damn pictures that are small enough >:(

I like the 2d ones more, so I'd say my favourites are probably the Oracle games. Hard to choose which of those is better though.
Of the 3d ones, Majora's Mask is easily my favourite.

As for worst, well I haven't finished Twilight Princess yet so I can't really judge it but the pacing is bad so it's hard to motivate myself... of the ones i've actually finished, phantom hourglass wasn't really very exciting, I guess i'd call it my least favourite. Oh also Zelda 1 has aged pretty badly so it's up there too I suppose.

You can tell by my layout
Recently I played a link between worlds. I found the game interesting and all, but the story in my opinion was too short. There were a fair amount of side quests, and boy, those treasure rooms! I would say a link between worlds would be my favorite now, but the wind waker will still have a special place in my majora's mask if you know what I mean.

Most of the perceived "shortness" of a 2D Zelda in comparison to its 3D brethren is usually the result of vastly different gameplay mechanics in combination with a much lower number of agonizingly-long cutscenes and dialogue tangents. Dungeon-for-dungeon, the 2D Zeldas tend to be as long as, if not longer, than the 3D games.
This is the longest post in this thread. This is an essay on the greatness of a particular Zelda.

tl;dr
ALBW is best, 2 is worst

My favorite used to be ALTTP. It's the first one I played and finished, way back when I didn't know you could save because I didn't know English, and auto-updates on my computer (was playing on emulator) would kill my game every week.

I've played every other Zelda (except Wind Waker and the Four Swords), and no mather how I look at it, I still prefered ALTTP. There's... something special in that one. Y'can kill me for nostalgia, I don't care.

Now that I finally got a 3DS, the first game I got was obviously ALBW.
It is now, without doubt, my favorite.

There was a bit more story to it than ALTTP, but without telling you exactly what to do at every possible moment like more recent Zeldas. You can do the 2nd and 3rd dungeons in any order. And they didn't number the dungeons in
Lorule
, so it doesn't give the illusion that there's a set order. You really feel free to do whatever you want.

ALTTP was also the first one to include multiple floors in dungeons (or, at least, floor ordering that's relevant. I don't count Zelda 1's 2D Item Rooms, and Zelda 2 is a sidescroller), so ALBT focusing on depth was really great.

I think the new gimmick was actually very well used in puzzles. It's not tedious to execute. It never feels like they're forcing you to use it once in a while to make you remember you have it. You genuinely need it and its use is always interesting.

The item renting was an interesting idea. It furthered the feeling of freedom; you can get all your gear at once, now go do whatever you want.

Normal Mode had a great difficulty for everyone. I think you're supposed to die a few times in video games. I think Hero Mode was a legit great challenge for gamers. It might just be me sucking at video games, though.

...And I literally cried when I
woke up in Lorule
. The memories, man. The feels. The beautiful remix. The only time I died in my first (normal) run was at that moment. Enemies in
Lorule
are actually hard, and as I said I was crying from nostalgia.

My least favorite Zelda is Zelda 2. Won't write an essay on that one. I'm also not a huge fan of 3D Zeldas, because Link tends to stop responding to player inputs and move by himself, and then there's a box with letters in them that keep appearing for an hour. The story is supposed to be the reason for adventurin'. You're not supposed to adventure just to make the plot advance.

PH and ST are also somewhat subject to that, but to a lesser extent.

Sorry for exposing my stupid, worthless, probably wrong opinions. Should I delete all that?

EDIT: Aww, great. I have the knack to kill threads whenever I post in them.

Anyway, I just beat ALBW for the second time, 6 days after I got it. I shouldn't have rushed through it. Dammit >_<
