There are many hacks I can think of but here are some that come out of the top of my head:
  • Super Demo World:The Legend Continues
  • Lunar Legends
  • The Coin Hunt
  • The Coin Hunt 2
  • Super Mario Bros. 3 - The Secret Place
  • The Tales of Elementia
  • Mario's Keytastrophe
  • Rise to the Challenge
  • Many more...
You should check out 12 days contest entries, some of them are awesome! Flappy mario (you proably know about this but whatever), lost in puzzle world is awesome (is in the hacks section) hehe, A Maxi Mini Hack, Maxworld - The ancestor's treasure, Hack 1 and 2, Bonni's Quest, "SUP, MARIO?!", Santa mario, just blob, MaSeHiHa, a strange mission, The Big Fish Crisis, SMW Lost Water (it was already super rare and now you can't find it anymore, I'm guessing I'm the only one who has its copy. if you want, I can pm it to you.) Teh Hack 2, Ore World 2 and 1 (Has bad level design but it has many interesting gimmick and bosses.) Mario Lemming (also rare), MoxiBlue Mario, Karoshi Mario, The Ultimate Yoshiharu World Full Ver (is a bit unfair but I still find it very fun). Yeah. I know its a lot but I love them all. But anyways, you should ask for hacks in this thread. (If you can't find some, I can upload and give those to you. I were collecting super old hacks since 2010 [or 2011?])

edit: NINJA'D BY EVEREST
That's a good list to get me started, thanks guys. List any more if you think of them.

This hack and this one are both pretty good.
This one is pretty buggy but it's otherwise a pretty good hacks. A Strange Mission and Brutal Mario are also good hacks and you should play them (the latter hasn't good level design but it have got pretty unique gimmick and bosses). Like the other wrote it, there are many good hacks and are worth to play them.

"SUP, MARIO?!",

Link's right here if you want to try it.

I would recommend any of Evilguy019's Hacks (SMW: The After Years, Super Yoshi Land, and his 12 Days entry), as well as "Mario Wants His Lemonade" made by Gamma V, Super Mario 2D Land by Alex No, and if you want something creepy, try both Eyeless and Eyeless: DC by KY2010.

(rip my other userbars momentarily)

Mine actually isn't in the SMW hacks section, and it's actually a series of hacks; The Devious Four Chronicles by Antimatterhunter and S.C.O.R.P.I.O.N..

Vanilla Twist!
Allow me to suggest some hacks for you.

Let's start off with Sunny Side World, by cwiarl. It's a classic little hack that I love to go back to every once and a while for inspiration. Don't expect anything overly complex from it, though, but please do expect some fun, quaint levels that are a joy to stroll through. You can also expect some lovely graphic replacements that set it apart from other hacks.

Another classic would be Super Mario Odyssey, by BMF54123. It's an amazing and groundbreaking hack for it's time period, though it may be my nostalgia speaking; it was the very first ROM hack I ever played. With it's enjoyable level design and interesting and surprising plot, I'd still very much recommend it.

I'd also suggest Q=Bee' Vanilla Failure, as a more recent hack. Certainly, the author is quite a controversial character, but his work is quite excellent either way. For a different great recent hack, try out noon' A Maxi Mini Hack. Both are very simple, short hacks, but that doesn't mean they aren't fun. You'll be wanting more by the time you play through them.

I feel as if I'm forgetting to add some hacks, but I'm not sure why. What I have should be sufficient for now, but I may or may not add more in the future.

e: I knew I was missing something! I cannot comprehend how I completely forgot Dongs!, by The Kins. It runs the same course as the others, being short, simple, but fun. I think I needn't explain more.
wow lunar legends

Anyway, I'm also going to suggest some:

Super Pika Land Ultra Chocolate is a great hack overall. The level design is really great, with some pretty nice and creative gimmicks, and the changes on the gameplay and unique graphics make it pretty refreshing to play through. Definitely recommending it.

Super Mario Odyssey was already recommended, but I'm definitely seconding it. The level design is very enjoyable, and it honestly feels a lot like it could be a sequel to SMW.

Kamek's Island also feel very SMWish, and the level design there is simple but very enjoyable to play through. It's pretty refreshing, as most hacks here have a pretty complex and sometimes cramped design style.

I disagree with some of those personally, mainly the secret of the lands and MaSeHiHa, but there are also some great ones already mentioned (A Maxi Mini Hack, Super Yoshi Land, Mario Wants His Lemonade, Rise to the Challenge, The Coin Hunt 2 and Super Mario Bros. 3 - The Secret Place come to mind).
Many well-known hacks, like DWTLC and the Second Reality Project series, are too difficult for my liking. Beyond those, it's hard to find an enjoyable SMW hack due to Sturgeon's Law and the trend of making ROM hacks more difficult than the games they're based on. That said, there are a few really good hacks on this site.

LUNAR LEGENDS: THE SEARCH and LUNAR LEGENDS by Aeon/Purple Rex
These two hacks are very well-designed and beautiful choconilla hacks whose difficulty is on par with official Mario games rather than the typical hack.

JUST BLOB by TheDutchLuigi
This short hack replaces Mario with a little red blob. The physics have been altered to make Blob feel a bit different from Mario while still being just as simple and fun. This hack also features a unique "sketch on notebook paper" style for the backgrounds. Personally, I'd love to see a Just Blob 2 in the future.

MARIO'S REDRAWN ADVENTURE by Dakress
This is a really nice hack that features Nintendo-quality level design and a nice sense of graphical consistency, both of which are rare in chocolate SMW hacks. There are instances of That One Level (Beach Ghost House) and That One Boss (Mouser), but it's overall a very nice hack, especially for a FIRST hack. I just wish Dakress would get back to work on it and finish it up. I'd also like to see it made compatible with more accurate emulators.

SMW2+3: THE ESSENCE STAR by Golden Yoshi
This hack is what eventually got me back into SMW hacking after a 3+ year hiatus. This hack is very story-driven and transforms SMW into an hybrid between a platformer and an action adventure game. Like MRA, I'd love for this to be updated for SNES compatibility.

MARIO'S VANILLA JOURNEY by akacesfan
This one looks to be quite promising. The difficulty is reasonable, and with only a couple minor exceptions, the palettes are quite nice.
Quintesson Judge: Silence, or you will be held in contempt of this court!
Hot Rod: I have nothing but contempt for this court!
- Transformers the Movie (1986)
A few of the popular hacks are actually really good in my opinion, so you could try those, many of them were already nominated here (like SMB3 - The Secret Place and SMW2+3 - The Essence Star) and since some hacks I would've nominated here were already nominated by other posters here that aren't very popular, I'll go ahead and suggest some that weren't mentioned here yet.

The Senate
In my opinion, it's a really good hack. Good variety, high-quality level design and one of the best examples of hacks that didn't go wild on ASM, but only on variety and level design. I highly recommend this one, you'll have fun for sure!

Sicari
If you're looking foward for something very unique then you totally should give a shot on this hack. You'll get impressed with the amount of originality on graphics of this hack and with the effort the author put on the hack. Another highly recommended.

Super Mario World: The Secret of the 7 Golden Statues
Even though the level design on this hack isn't awesome, it's still pretty decent. But I can assure it's a very fun hack to give a shot on, since most of the new features make the hack more exciting to play and the hack also shows good variety as well.

Collection
This one is very beatiful. Aesthetics for all the levels are very lovely, high-quality level design and a hack that shows a really great example of variety but still keeping consistency in graphics. In a side note, you could search for more hacks made by the author, ZMann.

Something else v1.02
A masterpiece! You'll totally have fun with this one, it has a great level design in general, many unique levels and an interesting story. Totally recommended.

Bonni's Quest [Demo 2]
Another masterpiece. Level design is of high-quality, the graphics are lovely and aesthetics for all the levels are divinely great! It's a very fun hack and quite unique, you'll see when playing the hack by the different gameplay and design ideas the hack has in general.

Super Mario Bros. 3 X v2.5
I'm also a fan of traditional hacks, mainly those inspired on SMAS. This one is a really good example of traditionality, I suggest you to play this one as well when you get some time.

Well, I don't have more hacks to suggest for now; I'm kinda forgetful after all, therefore I'll update this list sometimes if I remember more hacks I liked a lot at the point to consider them favourites.
Why are all of you suggesting demos? Suggest full games. Nobody wants to play a demo..........
User: Hinalyte / ID: 1553 ~ loading kotori.css
I am pretty sure some of them suggested full games, and some demos are really good considering some have a nice level design (which is why they were accepted anyway).
Here I go:

とっても Super Mario World Yeah! - By Yuga.
An amazing Japanese hack; I reccomend it to anyone.

Lunar Legends - By Aeon.
A pretty great Super Mario World themed hack with great level design; play it if you like hack with no story or whatever #ab{:P}.

A Maxi Mini Hack - By noon.
Cool hack if you ask me, it has anything a hacker likes; good palettes, nice level design, good looking overworld map, you name it!

Insert Coin - By noon and Zildjian.
Interesting and fun one-level hack, you have to defeat the evil Upside-down Boo here!

Cool or Cruel Stage 11 & 12 - By worldpeace.
Insanely difficult hack by legendary worldpeace. I don't reccomend you playing this hack if you get frustrated easily.

Bowser Rampages Again - By Zmann
An awesome and really fun hack; it's a regular 'save the princess' kind of hack, but it's pretty good.

I believe that I've played other hacks; sadly, I can't remeber any #ab{;_;}.
some of my personal favorites are:

1. super mario world - the lost levels: a very long, vanilla, challenging, puzzly, and wonderful hack that has excellent level design and great palettes. i knew i would love this hack when i first saw it, and i sure wasn't disappointed.

2. an smwcentral production: very long, played it from last year to this year, and i have never become tired of it. great level design, and, although challenging, offers a unique and fun challenge and lots of variety per level.

3. super ''mario'' world: very fun and long hack. it has a unique challenge where you have to find 4 different colored switches that will take you to the final world; bowser's valley.

4. bandicoot's - classic mario world 1 & 2: long, very vanilla-y hack with lots of custom palettes, and a lot of custom vanilla backgrounds. sadly, these contain loads of glitches, such as emulator incompatibility and inability to access world 8. great level design and variety is seen in these 2 hacks.

5. super mario place: my top favorite super mario world hack as of this day! very long and not a very hard hack, but the main reason i like it is its graphics; they're very pleasant to look at, and the game having the original smw music makes it even more pleasant!

6. ...and finally, super challenge world: the game is extremely challenging, and requires lots of skills and knowledge of the original super mario world. it isn't kaizo, though.
My Inspiring Quotes on Personal Growth and Change:

"Resolved financial/personal problems equal greater growth!"

"The only constant thing in life is change; nothing is set in stone. The old is replaced with the new. Forgive yourself for past mistakes. When many different problems in your life are resolved (personal, financial, etc.), newfound strength and confidence is gained in the process. Usually, failures, lack of assertiveness, disappointments, incompetence, low self-esteem and lack of self-respect, financial struggles, and setbacks can cause us to change and take action to solve any problem, leading to increased strength and confidence. This you learn from experience.

I have been experiencing this aforementioned newfound strength and confidence myself for the past FOUR to EIGHT years or so, getting stronger with each passing year, learning with each mistake I make and becoming more joyful in the process. Because of this newfound confidence I've acquired over the years, finding my passion is of utmost importance in 2022! You can develop this strength and confidence in yourself as well!"

To whoever's reading this, you are amazing and you are capable of doing equally amazing things. Gather confidence and be yourself! Say goodbye to the old you and welcome the new you! It wants to arise every moment, but you don't let it. Learn from your mistakes and never make that mistake again! Find your passion and live it!"

Finding my passion in life, but I may still be active on SMWCentral from time to time. Still enjoy playing many hacks, but I'm widening my perspective on life and opening myself to the new.
The Senate - Best Level designs

Mario's Keytastrophe - Best use of Gimmicks

Mushroom Kingdom Meltdown

Kaos Islands
a
-Return to Dinosaur Land-It's the most SMW-like hack I've played yet.
-Cool or Cruel stage 12: Tubular-I'm enjoying it so far despite being frustrating at some places and being harder than Forky (even not taking the shortcut). It manages to cram so much eventfulness and yet everything feels strategically designed. I also like the music. So far it feels accept worthy.
-TSRP 1-a bit hard but strangely addicting when I played it. Some bit of nostalgia factor as well.
Yeah, I don't play too many hacks. There may be more I'm forgetting, tho.

There are full games listed in some posts here and some demos are pretty long as well if you are talking about the length. Where did you get the idea that nobody wants to play a demo?
SMW TKO all the way. It was made ages ago, but it still holds up very well and is certainly my favorite hack. It has nice custom music, fun levels, and a metric crapton of secrets. Go play it.
