General SMBX Help Thread

There is one in the Ultimate SMBX CGFX Pack. NPCs -> Bullies -> SMW Chargin' Chuck

However, it won't behave like in the original SMW and it's impossible to do that in this engine.
Is it possible to change or add overworld music to the main worldmap screen? Similar to the way graphics are added?

Unfortunately, no. It is not possible to add music like that. The only possible way is to rename another track to the same filename of the overworld music.
Make sure to keep a backup of your original music folder if you do that.
Okay. I think SMBX needs to include that feature if it is still getting updated.

It won't be updated. Redigit no longer works on SMBX.

Oh right... I forgot, that, Redigit was the one who made that...

First you need to make a new layer and a new event.
For the layer go to view -> layers. This opens a submenu, where you choose add. You got a new layer now and can name this layer whatever you like, but let's say we called it Peach. Then to make a new event, go to view -> events. This also opens a submenu. Click on add below the events and name this new event Peach Gone (or something else you like). Now select the Peach Gone event, and then select the Layer Peach. Click on add below Hide Layers. The Peach Event should be below Hide layers now. The event Peach Gone will now hide everything in the Peach layer.
It should look something like this now:

Open the layers submenu next and select the peach layer. Then go to NPC and select the Peach sprite.

In the left circle you can change what peach says. If you're done with that, Click on Show in the right circle. This opens a new submenu. Choose Talk and select Peach Gone (The event peach gone will activate when you talk to peach). After you've done this place the peach sprite in your level. To ensure that she's in the Peach layer, the letters peach should be next to your cursor.

I hope this helps, if you got any questions, feel free to ask.
I'm trying to make a diagonal level. I've seen diagonal levels in other Super Mario Bros. X episodes, so I know it's possible to make diagonal levels.

I have my level set up so that when the block with the vine in it is hit, the level's boundaries change.

Before the block is hit, the level basically looks like this.

After the block is hit, I can no longer go right, but I can go up farther.

But if I go up too far...

Huh? What?

O.K., so I'm apparently doing something wrong. If I go up too far, Super Mario Bros. X starts glitching out. You can also see that the enemies that I have set to appear up there don't appear. What's going on? How did that happen?

How do you properly make diagonal levels in Super Mario Bros. X?

It's the background you're using. Some backgrounds do that.

Is there a way to fix that issue? What do I have to do to my background?

Try changing the background for now, and see if you can find one that works (and post it here, of course :p); I could try changing it to the background you're currently using, if needed.
I'm currently using this one (from An SMWC Production).

It currently replaces "background2-31", the Super Mario World clouds. Can you make my background compatible with my level?

e: table stretch fixed
(I'll see if I can fix it, btw)

Make it replace a different background.

Yeah. Not sure on which background to replace, though, but i'll see if I can get it to work.
Is it possible to configure custom OW songs?
I really need a layout. :<
I'm pretty sure the OW songs are global and you can't put custom ones -- you'd need to replace the .mp3 files of those songs so it would work.

Which is not recommended, because since you won't make people switch their global OW songs just to listen to yours, as with global I mean they're from the own SMBX files.

Oh, OK. Thanks for the clarification, Mirann. #smw{^_^;}

I have a question about the "framespeed" NPC code. What, exactly, is the value for "framespeed" measured in? Is it frames?

It set how fast the NPC animates.
