World War III?

Do you think that the recent invasion of the Ukraine by Russia could be the start of the third World War?

Not really, I think it's just a big "screw you" to Ukraine and America.

Possibly, but things could get ugly. The US feels the need to increase their presence in Poland. If this was just a big screw you I don't believe this stuff would be happening.

I don't believe so. There are many factors and variables to consider when determining the outcome of such thing and I have to say that it is a pretty slim chance of a World War III. Of course, the future changes but I consider it extremely unlikely for now.
Of course I hesitate to say this could lead to war. Crimea is majority Russian, so Putin is not entirely maniacal in saying he has some claim to it. Furthermore, a large portion of the Ukraine is in fact pro-Russia. The split of Crimea allows the west-leaning Ukraine to split from the east-leaning in a (relatively) peaceful way.

That said, consider Sarajevo in WWI as reason enough to be concerned over the events occurring in east Europe today. How could some minor balance of power politicking, combined with nationalism in the European lowlands, ever lead to a world war?

(I know you know the answer, but I'm going to answer it for those unaware...) If I remember correctly, it was because there were two armed camps in Europe, pretty much spoiling for a fight, and thanks to a bunch of secret treaties all over the place, most countries in Europe were dragged into the fight. The incident in Sarajevo was blown out of proportion and this led to the deaths of about 20 million people.

Let's hope that does not happen with Ukraine. All I want is a peaceful resolution in Ukraine - as an European I do not mind whether they join the European Union or not. I want what is best for the people of Ukraine.

To be blunt, nobody really cares enough about Ukraine to start a World War over it. It's just a bunch of news stations trying to make a story.
I agree with Torchkas. I don't think another world war will happen anytime soon. Something REALLY big would have to happen.

Ok, maybe not THAT big, but you get the idea.

I agree with @Torchkas and @KTBHacking . Something that would change the course of history, I'm thinking..
