Got a gimmick in mind, i'll be playing with something i never played with :3
Screenshot:

Still trying to get a better transition from the cave to the sands there ...
I'll probably post a better pic once i design a worth screen. Thoughts?

That looks really nice, and I like how you're so creative with re-using the original SMW graphics. I'd tone down the browns on the pyramids because they look more like dirt than sand that way... And the transition from lava to sand is a little strange, like you said. Maybe add more brown to the green?

Another thing, I don't think the yellow on the cave tiles looks very good with the rest of it. I realize it's reflecting lava, but the lava is rather dull so it doesn't make much sense.
Wow, the tileset mixes are looking great. ;o

Let's see what we'll get.
The palette is kinda depressing (for me), but other than that... sweet mother of God that tile mixing. What did you use for the little clouds in the BG?

Hey, Ludus... That sand BG... isn't that the graphic for the spike smasher rotated 90 degrees?

A really big thanks for the reply guys.

Hmmm... I'll look into that, the palettes are not final anyway. Got to think on a better tile to fit the FG sand texture too. Thinking.

I'll look into that, just trying to finish a functional tileset before moving foward into fixing the palettes.

Yep.

As a sort of update, I'm finished testing and studying the mechanic i will be using, got some ideas planned, but i'm looking for at least one more gimmick to go with it. Also, still trying to fix some graphical stuff (Like finding the tiles for the transition: Sand to cave) Any ideas on that would be highly appreciated.

Yep.

Isn't that against the rules, though? You're editing a graphic...

I believe rotating was ruled as allowed @Nimono
Palettes are not final.

I kinda find the lack of an outline on the FG a bit off.

May not use it, due to some priority problems but whatever. I've done studying possible mechanics and i'll be implementing what i found now.

Wow... this is possibly the MOST creative thing I've seen with Vanilla, don't get me wrong, I didn't see the other entries.

Haha, that's awesome Ludus.
That is very creative Ludus! I just hope you use that appropriately at the appropriate points.
#smw{O_O}Wow.... You sir... may have... just.. created... the.... the..........

THE BEST VANILLA TILESET MIX THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!!!!

But seriously, this is really amazing. It's so creative and beautiful that I almost thought you were cheating with ExGFX when I first saw your level. I just hope it's as fun as it is aesthetically pleasing. Keep up the hard work and creativity, man!

Just one thing though, I'm not sure how much I like the Volcano Lotus palm tree. It sort of looks like a lamp post with this palette, unless that's what it's supposed to be.

Thanks guys, feedback is always a good thing. In other news, i've had one idea about where to use the quicksand. And one other new: The level will be split in two main sections, two gimmicks each, but i have plans to increase the replayability of the level.... heh heh.

I'll probably post another screenshot by tomorrow.

Hello

The first half of the level is done, leaving me with just the secret exit and second half of the level needing to be done. Progress will fasten up now.

Also, i'm in need of some beta testers, if someone is interested to please post here.
I'll be sending a level to test in 2 weeks, leaving at least 1 week for beta testing.

I'd be down to test.
I can do so as well.
Your layout has been removed.
Looking pretty neat so far! Mario's palette (and the sprite palettes) look slightly out of place when compared with everything else, but I guess that's still being worked on #ab{:P} (I guess it's not possible to fix Mario's palette considering this is vanilla, though #ab{:S})

I can also help with testing this, by the way.
Holy fuck this is amazing! You sir are a master at vanilla hacking! I love the palettes even though you're not going to use them. #ab{;_;}
