Desert/Mines/Construction Zone Level (Welp, I failed.)

I've got a couple of screens to show here.

You start right here. The background is in progress, as I haven't made a custom desert background just yet.

Some slopes with a rock bouncing down the slope. I decided to put in a bit of Girders as it would fit in a construction zone.

To the left, there's a Chargin' Chuck, a Koopa, and a big ledge up there. I thought that incomplete houses would fit in the construction zone theme. Also, the placement of the Chargin' Chuck isn't really that good.

Up on the ledge, there's ? Blocks.

Aaand that's all I got for now.

Comment away.

I rather like the second screenshot and the usage of those "girder" tiles. I'd almost like to see more of that than the ghost house tileset I think.

Good stuff so far.
I can imagine you turning the construction zone into an athletic level if done right. The level looks detailed so far, but I don't have much to go off of for the level's design.
Have you also considered using the Climbing Fence for any part of your level? It seems like something that would fit a construction-type stage if you ask me.
I like the look of this level, the palette is fine too. As for the fences, I think with some Map16 tweaking you can turn it in some kind of ladder.
Thanks for your guys' feedback! #smw{:TUP:}

SNN: If it's more girders you want, it's more girders you'll get.

SyStemkraSh: Hmm...I don't plan to make this level athletic. Plus, I don't see how that's even possible with the cave tileset.

GeminiRage: Yeah, that would totally work. I never thought of that.

Wormer21: Thanks! I don't know about the ladders though. I was actually thinking of putting in 2 girders and a platform that moves up and down like an elevator.

This is a buffer post.

Thanks for the buffer post, Magi.

Update

A lot of Digging Chuck rocks...I gotta add more decorations in the ground...

Also, i'm not actually fond of what i've done with the level design. For this world, am I supposed to be going for a "Moderately Hard" Difficulty?

The ROM is non-linear. Therefore, the only thing you have to worry about is where your level is placed in the world. If it's a hard level, it'll be towards the end of the world - if it's easy, it'll be at the start of the world.

Too much Minecraft/Dream Team, not enough VLDC.

Here's a preview of the mines section of the level.

Looks like a mine.

Well! You're doing good work then.
How did you get the rocks to fit in the ground ? I assume you just recolored the transparency with actual ground color, but it would be interesting if you did otherwise.
I don't see any other way possible unless he used Layer 2 for it, but he probably used Layer 2 for the psuedo background part.

It is what you assumed: I recolored the transparency with the actual ground color. And what is "Otherwise"?

I started a background for the above-ground part of my level.

What do you think of this so far? I don't know what i'll do for the other parts of the background, though. I'll figure out eventually.

Not bad. I'm normally not a fan of vanilla BGs that try to look like a landscape, but this one works.

Have you considered the use of silhouette objects like hills and construction girders in the background along the horizon?
Welp

Can't finish this level now, I procrastinated for way too long and was too lazy to finish this level. I don't have enough time to finish this so i'm gonna have to forfeit or something.

Because of this, i'm gonna punish myself by spanking myself 100 times then giving myself a 1-hour timeout while slapping myself in the face 50 times every minute and kicking myself in the shins 1,000 times.. Maybe that'll teach me not to procrastinate and FINISH THE FUCKING LEVEL/PROJECT NEXT TIME.

Sorry.

Don't give up yet man, there's still 3 days left before the deadline. I'd say that's enough to finish the level, and this is looking quite good; it'd be a shame to loose your work.
