Vanilla Music Remixing: Signups and Discussion (07-05-14 update)

Link Thread Closed
I have no problem with people wanting to use the default music, but it has been suggested by a few people that the musicians should have a role in this as well. I am therefore proposing that we remix the original music. To keep with the "Vanilla" spirit, I only have the following rules:

1. Try to keep the remix close to what Nintendo's style would be - that is, be sure to include the classic SMW theme somewhere in there.
2. You can use samples if you wish, but they aren't necessary.
3. Only sign up for one track at a time. If you finish it and submit it in this thread for feedback, only then may you sign up for another.

I think it would also be great if we got a few more variations on the main theme for other levels, such as ice, forest, and desert. Therefore, here are the signups I have to offer:

REMIXES:
Here We Go!: Tornado
Athletic/Piano: LemmyKoopa
Castle/Fortress: Torchkas
Underground: Sinc-X
Switch Palace: Moose

NEW VARIATIONS OF THE MAIN THEME:
Ice: Jimmy52905
Forest: Nameless
Mountain: Jimmy52905
Desert: RednGreen
Fire: Lui37
Abstract: Sinc-X
Fortress: LemmyKoopa

MAP THEMES:
Grass/Forest/Haunted: Jimmy52905
Mountain: Lui37
Cave: Lui37
Ice: S.N.N.
Desert: LemmyKoopa
Abstract: Torchkas
Sky: S.N.N.
Fortress/Castle: Sinc-X
"The Best": Jimmy52905
"The Worst": Sinc-X

This should be sufficient for now.
I'd want to do a remix of the original Castle theme.
ice remix lolololjimmytrolololo
I think a post layout goes here somewhere...
Switch Palace

I think I'll pick Fire.
I guess I'll take mountain.
Wow, Moose, that remix sounds really cool and up-beat, and it does a pretty good job of staying true to the original theme. I can't wait to possibly use it!
The lead samples.. eh. I think you'd be better off using something more "natural". Also those few rythm changes you did are kind of gross, honestly. Would've been better if you kept it consistent.
Finished composing the mountain theme

Some parts are actually more than 8 channels and I still need to actually port it, but this should be pretty close to what it'll sound like in-game.
That sounds like an interesting project #ab{:)}

I made a track for the desert level(s) - I tried to make it more in the style of western movies, rather than the usual arabic-inspired melodies, but I ended up mixing the two (the former still prevails I guess).

v1 - v2
Beautiful, as usual. Unfortunately, I can't find any apparent differences between the two versions, so I can't help much there.

I wasn't really happy with the other one, so I redid it (mostly) from scratch. A few parts are copied from the other one, as you might hear, but this one sounds much better, I think.

Thanks! In the second version the melody in channel #1 keeps using @2 until 0:55 (as opposed to the first one, which replaces that part with a @6 countermelody). I actually prefer the first one, but I decided posting both of them for the sake of it.

Yeah, I remember that happening, but I got confused between the two versions and thought maybe I imagined the whole thing. I prefer the first version as well.

@sinc-x That does sound better. Nice job, especially @1:07. :)

Now I'm really unsure if I want to stick with the factory thing I had in mind and continue with my initial idea of a desert level. This sure is convincing me to do so.

I know it's a remix, and it does sound gorgeous. But the @0 at the beginning sounds a bit out of the place in comparasion to how the @4s sound after the whole remix, I'm not an expert about music but I think you could make the @0 sound better, that's all I have to say, great job though!

I'm a bit unsure if this one fits well with a cave level. Nothing against the remix itself, but the way you remixed it doesn't give a SMW feel like it was supposed to do. tl;dr it's not really bad, but it's just unfitting.

Well, the intention was to start off the remix with the familiar intro of the original bonus theme, which the @0 was a part of.

But now that I listen to it again, it turns out I stupidly forgot to add a channel from the original, which explains why the @0 seems more prominent in my mix than in the original.

Needless to say, I fixed it.
