K-16 - Story of Steel (a hack that has nothing to do with Mario)

Standard

Thanks everyone! ^.^

I'll be improving Oreo, as you're saying it's a bit plain and flat.

Also, I'll be showing off some new things soon enough! ^.^
I'd just like to tell you, that the Link to Sicari in your footer is outdated...

Three more screens from Oreo today. I've inserted the slopes to make the level play better, and due to the fact you wouldn't come to an untouched planet to find square masses of land.
Nor would you find floating Sapphires

Also, you can see the Koopa Troopa replacements for the first time! They act more like the Koopas from the non-SMW games, not coming out of their shell, or in this case their protective spheres.

I've still yet to name them, but you can see the Koopa replacement here, with K-16 holding its sphere.

Another one, along with the boo replacement, now named Cyclid. ^.^

And K-16's sliding animation. (I hope you like it) Please excuse the emptiness in this shot. This part of the level isn't finished.

As usual, please comment and give feedback! ^.^
K-16 actually looks kinda terrified in the sliding animation. #w{xD}
I like the new slopes though, as well as the Koopa replacements. Nice work!
Usually inactive/procrastinating on a hack idea.
The planet seems better. I really like the replacements and graphics. It seems great so far!

I really like the Graphics! Although you used Sicari as a base, they are able to make it a somehow new game... Good job! #w{=D}

Thanks everybody, I appreciate it.

My userbar is here. If you support the hack, please use it! I would appreciate it very much! ^.^

I'm kind of surprised this issue hasn't been pointed out yet.

By ducking upon the fourth question block the player can get stuck there and instantly die if the player stands up there as the player will automatically be sliding to left and then die. I suggest you to move this fourth question block one tile up to avoid this.

That aside, great progress! The level doesn't seem to be flat anymore. Waiting for more progress.

Ah, thanks for pointing that out! ^.^

I'll fix it immediately! There'll be another update tomorrow. :3
Hi everyone. I said I would update today, but I didn't really have anything new to show off. I have started making a new level; a type that you don't see often in hacks.

It takes place in the middle of space.

I look forward to showing it off! Stay tuned! #w{=D}
I ran into a little, problem with palettes, but I'll show off what I can for the level SHOOTING STARS. K-16 is flying through space shooting through enemies and dodging asteroids. I used the SML Marine Pop sprite, which is very good, and a medium auto scroll.

Here is the problem. Below is a screenshot from Lunar Magic. This is how the level should look. As you can see, the stars in the background are fairly dark, which helps the foreground stand out.

However, when I play the level, the palettes don't seem to have changed, and are very bright and look horrible, as you can see below.

According to the #lm{pal} dialogue, everything as it should be, and nothing needs to be saved.

Anyway, I'll show off more when I can fix this issue.

Please comment and give feedback (based on the LM image, not the ugly thing below) Also, what do you think of the level idea?
Maybe it is because of the level mode? Is it set to 00? Regarding the actual screenshot, it looks quite good, I can't wait until you finish it.
I don't know what happens to the background. Maybe too much dots?

Anyway, the idea of that type of level is interesting. I don't recall any other level of any mario hack like that. Very original.

Read my posted story here!!.

This layout good as my stories is made by Kagami
Did you already try putting the colours used for the BG to another part of the palette? I remember to have had the same problem, but I don't have an idea how I actually fixed it unfortunately... #w{:<} Other than that the Sprite really fits your space-scenario in my opinion! Keep it up and don't stop designing because of such a silly and annoying problem! #w{=P}

Seems like you're using Dark BG mode, I don't know. As Everest said, try using level mode 00 and rechanging the BG palettes.

Everything looking awesome anyways. Good to know there will be a sequel #fim{:)}

Looking forward!
I managed to fix the palette. It was a weird glitch in Lunar Magic, that wasn't properly saving the palette on the Map16 background. But anyway, here's some screenshots from the space level.

As you would guess, there is an autoscroll in this level, in the style of a classic space shooter.

K-16's Rocket Pod can fire missiles at a fast rate.

Also, sorry for the lack of progress. I'm taking it slowly after releasing Sicari. Not that Sicari wasn't slow enough. And like Sicari, I'll probably pick up the pace around January.

Anyway, please comment and give feedback! #fim{^_^}
It looks much better now. I like the idea of a classic shoot-'em-up style level in SMW, it's worked well in other hacks.
I'm looking forward to seeing more of this!

I like it as well, That sprite does perfectly fit into your Hack's theme and adds a nice variety to the other levels! #w{=D}

Wow! Guess I haven't checked on this forum in a long time, because somehow this new project of yours has slipped by me. But after seeing what exists of it as of now, I'll proudly admit that I can't wait for it. Sicari was great and it looks like this one has the potential to be even better than its predecessor!

I've always loved the idea of spacey, sci-fi hacks, but as of now none have ever worked for me. The "galaxy overworld with planet levels" concept is something plenty of hacks have tried, but somehow it's never quite turned out right. This, however, looks like an attempt that may just work -- and knowing you, Eevee, I have no reason to believe that it won't!

Looking very forward to more progress on this!
tired: 'JOYCON BOYZ'

Thank you for the feedback everyone! ^.^

Presenting "Arcteit," the ice planet, where temperatures are low and oxygen is scarce. Pretty early progress (need to improve the background)

Also, you can see K-16's fox powerup. Basically the same as the squirrel powerup from Sicari.

Anyway, please comment/give feedback! ^.^
