I like exploring the internet and when using google and typing word definition, learning about several stuff, I often found a link of where is the information is found: wikipedia. Upon going to that website, something new has happened on the top of the page:

We survive on donations averaging about $15. Now is the time we ask. If everyone reading this right now gave $3, our fundraiser would be done within an hour. If Wikipedia is useful to you, take one minute to keep it online and ad-free another year. Please help us forget fundraising and get back to Wikipedia. Thank you.

I'm worried, what happens if this fails? Is wikipedia gunna "die"?
Is other countries (like google) and other wikis not depend on wikipedia if its down?
I heard some schools that encounter the wikipedia blackout (by sopa a long time ago) and have to go to the library to find info because they can't use the website, so they are depend on wikipedia. I'm very worried that if i need answers on something, wikipedia is not there.

I know some people says its not a reliable source but its an opionion.
Some of the information is true.

Wikipedia has a fundraiser like this at least once a year. This is no different than the previous fundraisers, and doesn't mean they'll be "going out of business."

Since they need donations "to stay ad-free and independent of bias" they would have to place ads on the pages if they didn't get a sufficient amount.
*phew*

Though its going away. So this donation is for avoiding ads.

There's an article entitled "Wikipedia doesn't need your money" that would make a good read. I'd suggest looking at that for more information.

Wikipedia isn't going to be bankrupt anytime soon as their sympathetic ads suggest. Donations aren't needed.

True but if your still concern you could email them for open questions #smw{:trollface:}
It's still exactly the same for this year. They've not magically changed to Samaritans this year.

Uh, yes? I know.
Closing this since the original question was answered and the posts after which have been diverging from the topic anyway.
Follow me on Hermitscape for random bits of game design talk and pixel art, or even request something for me to draw.
