Which type of hack do you like?

I'm working on a vanilla hack with modified smw sprites and custom music (not ripped from other games), that's also my favourite hack type. You can make a lot out of the SMW resources.

What do you like more? Completely vanilla without anything else than LM? Mid-Vanilla with SOME custom stuff like music or customized SMW sprites? Or even hacks full of different graphics and sprites from other games?

Even if you only like custom hacks, would you play a vanilla hack if its level design is fun enough for you?
Vanilla/Sundae hacks are what I like to make, as to what I'd play I have no clue, but I think that making it almost an entirely different game with no relation makes it seem like you don't even like SMW.
I prefer more traditional, Mario-style hacks, but I don't really care much if the hack is vanilla, chocolate or choconilla, to be honest; if the hack is fun I will play it.
Actually like both vanilla and chocolate type hacks. When it comes to custom hacks, it use to be the ones that kind of have a lot of custom content to them that I prefer playing but lately I've preferred hacks that don't overload and kind of make everything fit in naturally. For the most part I don't care what type of hack it is as long as the hack looks fun to play I'll give it a try.

I like kaizo hacks, and vanilla hacks with custom music, and maybe some ASM and custom sprites. I like chocolate too.
Chocolate/choconilla with custom music is my favourite. However, some of them recycle the same music until the final world, while others use overused music/sprites.
I also prefer them to be medium to long in length. I don't like my games to breeze past in an instant.

I'd gladly play a well designed vanilla hack, but since they're easier to make, more newbies make those as their first hack(s), which aren't the best.
Usually inactive/procrastinating on a hack idea.
Hacks that have a story, Not the traditional "Mario saves Princess Bitch kind-of-game. A good example of a game with a story is this one.
I'm mostly a traditionalist when it comes to both making and playing hacks. It doesn't really matter where the hack falls on the sliding scale of vanilla to chocolate as long as it plays well and isn't too insanely difficult. I also prefer it if they work on snes9x, but I'll accept broken hacks if they were released before HuFlungDu's AddMusic.

i like chocolate hacks that do not utilize custom music.

traditional hacks are good as well.

not a kaizo player, but i am somewhat addicted to kaizo hacks. i have already learned the shell jump!
My Inspiring Quotes on Personal Growth and Change:

"Resolved financial/personal problems equal greater growth!"

"The only constant thing in life is change; nothing is set in stone. The old is replaced with the new. Forgive yourself for past mistakes. When many different problems in your life are resolved (personal, financial, etc.), newfound strength and confidence is gained in the process. Usually, failures, lack of assertiveness, disappointments, incompetence, low self-esteem and lack of self-respect, financial struggles, and setbacks can cause us to change and take action to solve any problem, leading to increased strength and confidence. This you learn from experience.

I have been experiencing this aforementioned newfound strength and confidence myself for the past FOUR to EIGHT years or so, getting stronger with each passing year, learning with each mistake I make and becoming more joyful in the process. Because of this newfound confidence I've acquired over the years, finding my passion is of utmost importance in 2022! You can develop this strength and confidence in yourself as well!"

To whoever's reading this, you are amazing and you are capable of doing equally amazing things. Gather confidence and be yourself! Say goodbye to the old you and welcome the new you! It wants to arise every moment, but you don't let it. Learn from your mistakes and never make that mistake again! Find your passion and live it!"

Finding my passion in life, but I may still be active on SMWCentral from time to time. Still enjoy playing many hacks, but I'm widening my perspective on life and opening myself to the new.
Making:
-Kaizo hacks
-Vanilla levels that use relatively uncommon or rarely used ideas
-Vanilla with occasional custom stuff but does not overdo the custom stuff, and uses custom music.
-Levels that remind me of DKC
Playing:
-Most things that are not too overly chocolate
-Kaizo hacks
-Non-Kaizo hacks with medium difficulty. Length does not matter, but I slightly prefer mid-length to shorter hacks.
-Custom music does not matter
-In general, hacks that remind me of SMW or DKC
Legacy custom music

i honestly dont play hacks

but when/if i do, i like them full chocolate, or at least halfway.
I'm being more a chocolate one. I prefer to play gimmick hacks like "VIP 1-5", "Brutal Mario" and "A Strange Mission" but also hacks without gimmicks like "Super Mario World: The Secret of the 7 Golden Statues". I also play sometimes kaizo ones (but only, if you needn't to do the wall jump glitch or any other very hard glitches).
Hacks with good stories or RPG style gameplay like SMW2+3 are really good. Not many people make these which kinda sucks.

Short-puzzle based hacks like Mario's Keytastrophe or Super Mario Underworld are pretty amazing too.

I'm not interested in vanilla hacks at all. I don't bother playing hacks with SMW graphics, even if the level design is pretty strong.

What would you consider RPG style gameplay? I've never seen a smw hack with that kind of style. BM tries to do that in a sense, but other than that, I don't know any other hack that does RPG stuff.

And dang, I kind of need to reply to the thread as well.

Well, when it comes to playing hacks, I never really do. If I play anything, I want it to be new, exciting, and most importantly, DIFFERENT! If I want to play SMW, I'll play SMW, otherwise, I don't want to just play some new levels in a hack someone just decided to make (which isn't bad btw).

A hack has got to have something... unique to it. Good story, good custom music (whether it is overused or not, I still like it much better than vanilla music in hacks), GFX or not is really optional, it can be vanilla styled, and if you are going to have custom bosses, don't use any vanilla ones, like, AT ALL. The Big boo I can't say is really a boss, I mean the Koopa Kids and Vanilla Bowser in general.

I tend to enjoy "mid-vanilla" hacks the most. Hacks like Kamek's Island still maintain the Super Mario World feel but have a good balance of custom features to make it feel fresh. Those are the types of hacks I like to design as well.
Making:
- Vanilla hacks
- Vanilla hacks with some "choconilla" style.
- Hacks with unique or uncommon ideas
- Challenging levels/hacks
I honestly dislike making chocolate hacks. I know how to insert custom stuff but I don't have too much inspiration with choco hacks.

Playing:

- Any creative hack with unique design (no matter if vanilla or chocolate)
- Challenging hacks with some kind of style (like RttC), sometimes Kaizo hacks too, but only some like Kaizo Mario 1-2
- Medium length or long hacks, or some collab hacks
- Hacks with nice and creative puzzles (like Mario's Keytastrophe).
I am also more of a traditionalist when playing hacks and I also play some puzzle hacks. I like making them too. I do not make chocolate hacks often but I can if I want to.
Normally vanilla and chocolate hacks. I also like making Kaizo hacks, though sometimes I do a puzzle and chocolate feel on them since I want them to look a bit more cool.
Windowless ride, feeling alive
Are you alive or just breathing?
I prefer chocolate hacks, the kind that use completely custom music and graphics (except for the enemies; I've found that most custom graphics for sprites look kind of weird) and a good amount of custom ASM. Bonus points if they have a reasonably decent storyline as well. But I'll just take what I can get; I also prefer hacks that aren't too difficult, which the majority seem to be. I also usually play them on bsnes or sometimes SNES9X 1.53. The same goes for making them, though I will occasionally do something vanilla. I don't really see much of a point in doing choconilla, though I will play hacks in that style.

I'm working on a hack! Check it out here. Progress: 64/95 levels.
Probably choconilla with a vanilla feel to it. Just like this.
I also like making vanilla hacks with bits of choconilla (like using custom music or some ExGfx).
