Your Nationalities

Considering my parents come from poor families, you can guess there's not much known about our family trees. Now, hipothetically speaking and going way back in time, I might be descendant of spanish and portuguese folks, considering my surnames and anatomical characteristics. Not really far-fetched since Spain and Portugal were the main countries to colonize HUEland aka Brazil.

I'm pretty sure that I'm 100% American.
Well, my parents told me that American isn't really a nationality. So while many of us were born in America, we're not american. Sure, I was born in America, but my nationalities are not american.

Just wanted to get that outta the way. I didn't really say it well IMO but I think you get what I mean.
Just so you know, I'm very active on the site anymore like I was before; I'm mainly on Discord now.
My family has been in America since the late 1700's, but thanks to my Grandmother, I know that on my Mother's side, I'm a mix between German, Swiss and English.

I'm German on my mother's side and Italian/Irish on my father's side.

Also, my last name is partly French (aparrently
Peverall

By the same logic, all nationalities aren't really nationalities, because if you go back far enough in time, you will predate all nations.

For example, what nationality were leod's ancestors 20 generations ago? How about 50, or 100? Germany wasn't always there. In addition, is there any evidence that "German humans" just happened to suddenly materialize in the exact geographical area that would eventually become Germany? Or any nation, for that matter?

Just something to think about. Nationality can be a pretty arbitrary means of self-identification, depending on the context.

Dutch. I practically don't have any other nationalities, I believe that some of my ancestors are German, but that's really far back in the past.

Good point.

@LemmyKoopa: That's true. That's also what my parents told me.

100% Irish. My second name apparently has English routes, but I know that my grandfathers and great-grandfathers were all Irish.

Venezuelan and... nothing else. My heritage is most likely Spanish and Nigerian, but that's something else.
i just lurk sometimes

I was born in the netherlands.
My dad was born in Cape Verde and moved here when he was 11 or something.
My mom was also born in holland, her mom is fully dutch but her dad was born in Curaçao, and his parents are from the domincian republic.
My sister is from a different dad so that's a whole other story xD.
I have a lot of nationalities that date back quite far but I'm predominantly Irish and Polish. I can't really recall what the trace nationalities are since there's a lot. I was born here in Canada though as were my parents. It was quite a few generations back that moved here on both sides.
im sorta a japanese (fathers side), Finnish (mothers side) born in america. i dont know what other bits im mixed with.
Family tree's a bit weird.

My mother is American, father British (specifically Welsh).

Mother's side grandmother and grandfather are Canadian, father's side grandmother is Welsh and grandfather was Hungarian.

Beyond that I don't really know, but there's some Scottish in there somewhere on my mom's side.
I should get a new layout.

Probably won't, though.

I'm German and I was born in Germany, but my grand-grandfather is Lithunian, and my father lived in Spain for a while.
Means: I am 87,5% German, 12,5% Lithunian, I think.
The weird thing is that some people think I'm Asian because I have small eyes :P
