Terraria *Now with Caffie server*

Plus it's pretty easy to find them if you're deep enough in the underground. They're often found at a depth of about 300 ft below level.

It's been quite a while since this thread has gotten any updates. I'd like to hear if people still give a damn about this game. The few times I've actually been logged on to the server terminal, it really seemed like noone ever visits it. It seems kind of wasteful to spend server power on a game that nobody plays, anyway.

So, is it worth it to keep the Caffie Terraria server running?
I still like the game, I just like other games like Minecraft and such much more. Terraria, at least for me, is a game I like to pop on occasionally with a few buddies and talk on skype as shit happens, we don't really have that with the server.

Terraria is more of a "play with your buddies for a little bit and then forget about it" sort of game, not a "play for months on a full-time server" kind of game. That may just be me though, so I am curious about how others feel about it.
Not playing at all anymore, pretty much. Guess you can nuke the passworded world or something.
My blog. I could post stuff now and then

My Assembly for the SNES tutorial (it's actually finished now!)
Once Terraria has been fully explored there's not really enough in it to want to return back into it, as exploration is what the game is all about. I imagine when further updates are added interest will rise again, but until then it'd be best just to let it sleep for a little while.

Perhaps some would be interested in having the server started afresh and playing through everything that the game has to offer once more, but that wouldn't be for me.

tldr it's pointless

Adding onto this, a public Terraria server isn't exactly that great. When you first said you were creating a Terraria server I was stoked, but then when I first visited I realised that everyone had already built their bases, activated hardmode, taken everything from chests ... the server had a few-days appeal initially but for latecomers or casual gamers it's kind of pointless.

I much prefer making my own little server with a few close friends whenever there's a major update. My first run was with Megafonzie, second with leod and third (which is uncomplete because it became tedious once looking for third tier ores) was BLM. Whenever 1.2 comes out I'll play again, but likely not on this server.
Terraria development has ceased.

It was fun while it lasted, my fellow Terrarians.
I'm sort of hoping they will release the actual source code. I'm sure someone would like to continue its development.
It's pretty annoying that the guy stops all development on the game after months of no progress beyond T-shirts and a Collectors Edition of the game. If he's really leaving the Terraria community after building up hopes of the future of the game, I'm not going to be supporting him or any of the other Terraria developers any longer.

If it's personal issues that have led to his stopping of Terraria, that's fine (I mean, he's having a kid, which is pretty serious compared to designing a game), but at least hand over the reigns to someone else instead of just killing the game off and leaving everyone high and dry.

Edit: Info was confused and it turns out he is only supporting Starbound.
Follow me on Hermitscape for random bits of game design talk and pixel art, or even request something for me to draw.

Unfortunately, I've heard on TO that he's going to be working on ANOTHER game. Could this be similar to the situation with SMBX? He ditched that (I still don't think Nintendo actually ordered him to stop because last I heard, they don't do that when people DON'T make money off their fangames) and began work on Terraria; now he's ditching Terraria and will soon begin work on a new game. Is he being all "I'm bored with this, time to make something else!"?

You know, he just doubled the content of the game after developing it for several months.

All games have to have support end eventually. Besides, if he handed it over to someone else, they could completely fuck up the game.
Well that sucks. I thought there'd at least be a 1.2, which my gut was telling me would be a Space Update. I kinda wish they released a final patch but said beforehand that it would be the end, instead of saying "HEY GUYS IT'S DONE NOW, JUST THOUGHT I'D LET YOU KNOW".

It's a little sad, because I doubt that I'll really pick the game up again without at least some significant changes, official or otherwise. However, I enjoyed what I played of this game, and it'll be sad to see it disappear into the sea of forgotten games that were once described as "Mincraft Clones".

Although perhaps now that I know that it's over I'll return to my world for a few last times and take care of the things that I was going to do when a new update patch came.

Bringing it back from the dead bitches!

Terraria Update 1.2 is now here

List of new features
Played for 5 hours, realised that the game is suffering from what made me hate Minecraft: content for the sake of content. The game has become a bigger grind than it was before because of the abundance of new items and the fact that they're proposing a Terraria 2 means I probably shouldn't pour 120 hours of my life into the game again.
Is it bad that I have never done anything with this game out that did a dirt house. Nothing else really, despite every update.
(there's only been two updates)

I will say; from my experience with Terraria, it is incredibly boring to start up. I hate the progression, but I love the exploration and the enemy variety. I haven't really got into playing with this new update, from what I've seen so far, the beginning portion of the game got a lot more grindy and boring...
Welp, I lied. 10 hours in and I can't stop.

blargh
Time to get this thread out from the bottom of the barrel.

A lot has happend. New updates, enemies, bosses, etc. The game now has a final boss called the
Moon Lord.
Also they have tweaked banners a bit so they can be more useful and handy to get. It now gives you a damage and defense upgrade whenever you see the enemy coming nearby at the banner.

Banners are also great if you want to be an completionist, or if you really want to take the time to get all of them. Try to get the Nymph banner, Tim banner, Doctor Bones banner, and some others. It will definitely take you a few days to get one of them.

Also upcoming is the 1.3.1 updates. The most noticable thing is that a lot of new stuff about wiring gets added. Also there's a new gem, new wire color, conveyor belts and more.
