BTW, I forgot to post a video for the level before the castle, so here it goes.
Like it says on the description, not my best level, but I did my best with this theme. It's also kinda short.

Also, I'm currently working on the castle #2. Once I'm done with it, demo 2 should be up!

For whatever reason, the background and the foreground look sexy together. Good level as usual!

Now I present you... The second castle video!
It was pretty much a pain to make the disco ball work with everything, I had to use STEAR to remap it, recolor some sprites and even get a disassembly for some, but I'm glad to say it all worked out (or so I hope).


And yeah, since that was the only level left on world 2... The second demo is finally out! :D

I looked at the video and from the looks of it, the level seemed quite dark. That is a good thing since it presented a reasonable challenge without being unfair to the player. I will play the demo later after I finish some important business of mine.

Hey koopster, the hack looks great so far. I am going to give your demo a play through and try to give you a more detailed review. From the screen shots I am expecting this game to feel a lot like the original SMW, and I am excited to try it out. Cheers, keep up the good work!

I have just encountered a major problem in your hack, although it is an easy fix:



Spin jumping off this grinder into the gap in the ceiling will result in an endless level 0 minigame. This is a major problem, fix this ASAP.

Actually, I'll stick to the original castle song there. It's one of my favorites in the original game (though I'm not going to use it in every castle).

Huh, that is really weird. There is a teleport block there, but that screen in set to take to level 1F7... Well, it may be that I placed that hole in the corner of the screen, so you probably touched it in a spot that's too close to the previous screen (which would take to 0). I guess it's better to set that screen to take Mario to level 1F7 too, just to make sure it will work.

That is really weird, I just did some more testing on that part, and the exit seems to have started working. I really don't understand why it didn't the first couple times I took the exit. Perhaps still something to look into...

Now A Supporter of Vanilla Twist! This hack is great for me to play on my snes9x emulator for my wii!

As I promised to you on IRC, I have now played this hack a while ago as of this post.

This really keeps the original SMW feel as I've played it. There are things that I've noticed while I was playing though:

- Some levels slows down for me. I played this hack with ZSNES, not sure if that's the case here.
- Is it me, or you're a bit generous on putting question blocks with multiple coins inside? I've encountered it for like, 3 per level.

Yeah, that's pretty much that I can point out now. That aside, your hack is really fun to play.

Some areas actually do slowdown, I should take some enemies away here and there...

Actually, yeah, I kinda don't want most of the question blocks to have only one coin in them, so I add those rather often. :P

Yeah, you can't achieve the secret exit... For now.

Also, I guess it won't take that long for the next demo, third world is only 3 levels long. I should get a beta-tester or two before I release it, though (I've got a little bunch of PMs with reports).

Yes, castles are the only thing that divide worlds, so every world should have one, no exceptions.

After designing this world, Are you going to make a sky world of some sort..?
Not right now, but later in the hack it's very likely, yes.


Anyways, castle 3 is done! Time for demo? No, not yet...


I've done all those three worlds and a big flaw I commited was not hiring any beta testers until now. Actually, a guy (infesting) tested the two-worlds demo by his own choice (thanks again!), and while his feedback was very good, I'd like to pick two or three more people (or perhaps more), just to make sure nothing was missed (and besides, to test the new world 3 - it's only three levels long, anyways).

So if you want to help me out, please post in this thread, and I'll send you the IPS and any needed info. When the testing is done, the third demo will be out and I'll resume my progress on the fourth world.
