A Vanilla Kaizo Hack

Kaizo

In memory of those hacks of olden, I have made...

A Vanilla Kaizo Hack.

Much better than my previous kaizo, (link to the thread in my post footer) this one only edits the levels!

Wait! This hack is legitimately difficult, using all sorts of traps and obstacles. It's only 1 world long, though so don't be expecting anything beyond #1 IGGY'S CASTLE.

You must beat the switch palace to complete YOSHI'S ISLAND 2.

Have "fun"!

Download

EDIT: Several bugs fixed! Added a Bullet Bill generator to the Iggy fight, too.

EDIT 2: End of switch palace made harder, did some other stuff too.

EDIT 3: Previous link was impossible. Good thing only one person downloaded it.

EDIT 4: Changed #1 IGGY'S CASTLE to fix a bug in which sprites would not appear, YOSHI'S ISLAND 2&3 are now impossible if you somehow managed to get to the end with a Super Mushroom.

EDIT 5: Time limit in YOSHI'S ISLAND 2 changed to accompany length.

EDIT 6: GBA Edition! Find Smallhacker's tool, and port this ips patched to a rom! Download!

EDIT 7: Did some stuff!
Not off to a bad start but the quality varies throughout.

Aside from the glitched footballs, the beginning wasn't too bad, but why is this level so short?

I could be wrong but it looks like it might be possible to jump onto and then off of the upper ledge at full speed and skip the Yoshi feeding (~6 tiles vertically is how high Mario can jump at full speed)

Why not use a goal tape here? That way I wouldn't be able to do this, skipping the Kaizo combination lock, which has been used in at least a few other hacks but I don't think as much as the classic Kaizo trap.

It seems like you should have placed Munchers on the ceiling but even then it still might have been too easy.

Careful.

This jump is possible and really challenging, which is good. Too bad I could skip it by swimming under.

Pretty sure walls above that would be beneficial. So would invisible coin or note blocks all across the bottom row of LM because...

I could swim under this door. This is a problem with this level in particular. I can go over or under many of the obstacles with ease.
To be fair, I did go back and go through the door to see what was on the other side. I think this is my least favorite level in the hack.

Thanks for letting me jump up on the roof as opposed to having to duck jump through that. I appreciate it.

If that had been one that throws bones that would add a sense of urgency since I'm pretty sure they fall off ledges.

Filler. Fortunately it isn't very long.

Unfortunately I'm not sure if there's any way to make a Kaizo version of Iggy and have it still be vanilla.
On the plus side, I think you may have inspired me to work on my own classic Kaizo vanilla hack side project.

It was originally a test for goal tape in vertical levels. It isn't the best level.

The intent is to shell jump, so the yoshi is an alternate method.

Sounds good, but it would still be possible to skip it.
EDIT: Now is a goal tape!

Upside-down munchers are not vanilla, unless you are suggesting flunchers. Which I will not use.

I'm sorry, what?

*blinks* What? The scale platforms have a limited scaling length. Is it really that long?

Okay.
EDIT: Fixed!

Thanks for the unmarked sarcasm. [/sarcasm]

That would make it impossible for anyone with human reflexes.

Where's the diagonal fireball I but in there?

I can add a Bullet Bill Generator.
EDIT: Added!
Go right ahead. Really, I don't care if you do.

The reason I've never done that is because I:
1) Don't know where SNES9X puts screenshots
2) Don't know which image hosting site to post them to.
If anyone could provide me with information on either subject, that would be great.

I didn't feel like copying my comment from my other screen similar to that. Now that I think about it, maybe posting that screen was redundant.

Not necessarily. Also, it was just a suggestion.

Again, only a suggestion. I was not suggesting Flunchers. If you don't think upside down Munchers are vanilla, feel free to not use them. I think a suitable substitute could be Munchers sitting atop rope, cloud, or one way ledge tiles.

2)Okay.
3)Maybe. I'm working on fixing the hack. I'll see.

Oh.
The other one was originally a Kaizo Combination Lock too, but I thought that was a little too cruel. And boring.

Did you enter DONUT PLAINS 1? If you didn't, it's pretty boring.

Snes9x puts screenshots in the Screenshots folder (Shocking, I know). You can use your filebin to upload your screenshots, so there is no need to use an external hosting site.

Ninja'd but whatever.

Where is this "Screenshots" folder located at defaultly? (I know that is not a word, I improvised one.)
EDIT: I just noticed that I ranked up to a shell-less koppa after this post. Huh.
It should be in the same location you placed Snes9x in.

Do I have to make it manually? If I don't it's not showing up.
No. IIRC it's created upon the first time using Snes9x. If you can't find it you probably deleted it or moved it into a new location. If you deleted it, you could probably just create a new folder and name it 'Screenshots'.
Oh, Okay. Thanks.

EDIT: Nope. Didn't work.

EDIT 2: I have v 1.43. Is that outdated?
Wow, this hack is much better and harder then the last kaizo hack you made, but you can still improve kaizo hacking. This hack is actually good, but i dose suck that this doesn't work in Zsnes. Keep up the good work. P.S. I'll TAS this hack tomorrow.

Huh-Whaaa? It doesn't work in ZSNES? How?
If i open it on Zsnes nothing happens, and if i open it in Zsnes via Lunar Magic nothing happens, so i have no clue why it doesn't work on it.

Odd, very odd. It's entirely vanilla and could probably work on the GBA, so that is very, very strange.

Just a question, but when is that TAS coming out?
I'm going to work on the TAS right now.
