Mario's Vanilla Journey - Bubble Bonanza (video available)

Standard

Yes, I know I had another thread for this, but I cannot find it for the life of me.

Anyways, woohoo! After months of procrastination, I finally buckled down and got the one world demo finished! Follow this thread for continued progress on the hack! Screenshots as well as a download link are below!

Greats palettes man, especially the last two screens. I will try out the demo later.

This hack is looking pretty promising so far from what I can see. The palettes really do look nice and help bring out the levels quite a bit.

I'll be trying the demo out soon enough.

Your hack is looking awesome, not all vanilla hacks have good palettes and good level design like your hack, is a great work.

Just this bridge on the floor is a bit strange, you don't have to change, is my opinion.

Keep up this great work!
Hey, here are some links to the LP of this hack =)

Part 1

Part 2

As ShadowPhoenix said: This hack has some great palettes!

Anyway keep up!
So, after taking a long break, I decided to start working on this hack again. I have half of world two done, and I'm going to show off a few screens. These aren't sorted by level, but are just various screens that I have. Look for more progress in the Screenshots and Videos thread for now, but as I get more levels done, I will post in this thread.

Got a level done yesterday and I'm excited to show it off!

2-4 Dino Domain

Before Mario can reach the World 2 castle, he still has to cross an area filled with Dino-Rhinos and Dino-Torches. They've got some hops, so he has to be on his toes at all times.

Mario is thrown into the action right away with Dino-Torches trying to scorch him from all angles.

Mario, be careful...

The cape feather is introduced in this level as well. However, I added a patch to disable flight so that people can't just break the level.

The terrain is quite varied as well.

This looks really nice, the level design seems pretty good,
I also like the palettes. Good job.
My hack TEMP is cancelled for now but I started a new
vanilla hack, you can visit my thread here.
I finished the world two castle today and have completed the second world! Woohoo!

2-C #2 Coastal Castle

Like the first castle, this castle is about getting Mario used to a few more castle enemies. Wooden spikes, fireballs, and lava are the main gimmicks here.

Better be careful Mario. You wouldn't want that platform to sink...

Yikes! Wooden spikes!

Reflecting fireballs can cause some hairy moments.

Is a bridge over lava ever a good sign?

I'm liking the style you are going for. The palette gives an air of some heat, without making it seem too hot. The level design looks pretty well. I'd probably include a few more coins though, or maybe some more decoration. I also like how you placed the Yoshi Coin in that last screenshot.

This hack looks pretty damn awesome, I can't wait for future updates!

World three has been started. It's going to be a cave world; in fact, I got the first level done today!

3-1 Chuck Cavern

Naturally, turn blocks are pretty common here. There isn't a lot of standing around, but they are everywhere.

Aren't translucent caverns beautiful?

As the level goes on, Puntin' Chucks are introduced.

I wonder how far Mario could return a punt? Maybe he should play football...

Lately I can see many beautiful vanilla hacks, and this one takes place in that group, so with that said so far I am liking what I see from this hack!
WOW! This hack is really developing well! I like how you introduce only a few types of enemies per level, which is supposed to be like that. Like (almost) everybody before me said, the palettes are PURE AWESOME! I've got to try this out!

Well, this hack is officially back from the dead. Now that it's summer, I actually have time to work on this hack! I got a level done today!

3-A Scorching Subterranean

Yep, it's not a cave world unless there's a lava-based level somewhere. This secret level can be accessed if you find the secret exit in Chuck Cavern.

This level has a lot of tight spaces. Mario needs to make sure he doesn't bash his head into a Swooper.

Spike Tops are crawling around the cavern too. Also, that pipe looks important. I wonder if there's anything on the other end...

There's quite a bit of lava around here too.

The Layer 2 is definitely a bit more complex since the last time we saw in the first world's castle, but I'm sure Mario can handle it (there was a Swooper here, but Mario killed it).

Blargg is definitely a pain in the butt, isn't he?

The design looks pretty damn good! While the palettes add a very nice touch (am really liking those palettes in that lava cave level).

I will keep an eye here...
Man, I've been quite fond of your palettes for a while and it's great to see how much you've improved on them over time. They're simple but it just all looks great together imo.

Keep up the good work #tb{:j}
Neat!
Like everybody else, I like your palettes. They're pleasent to look at an aren't over/desaturated. I can't say anything bad about the level design either; the terrain is varied, the enemy placement is well-thought-out and it looks like you put a lot of thought into making your levels.

Definitly looking forward to seeing more of this hack!
I just love your style. It looks just like the original game's style but with some really sweet palettes. The levels look pretty simple in a way, yet they seem to be interesting to play. I'll make sure to give your demo a try sometime later. :3
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?
