Hello. Nobody knows me I bet, but I am releasing a hack that has never seen the light of day. Most of you will think it sucks. Some of you will think it's okay. But I have never released a hack before. So I ask that you do not flame me. PLEASE.

I think that it's best explained in the Readme:

Originally posted by This Hack's Readme
This hack is an attempt at one-upping Fusoya's "Super Demo World: The Legend Continues", as I felt it used too little of Lunar Magic's features. I made a few changes to the game, both big ("new" blocks, new overworld, and obviously, new levels) and small (base of pushed P-switch). No new graphics, music, sprites, or blocks have been added, which may disappoint a few players. Hopefully you will enjoy the hack.

Also, if someone could give me some screenshots/videos, that would be great.

Download

Also, if you find any bugs, cutoff, or general screw-ups, notify me any way you are allowed to.

Reviews I would rather have honest, and possibly in this format:

Code
<Introductory line(s)>
The Good:
<List of positive features>
The Bad:
<List of negative features>
The Buggy (or whatever)
<List of bugs, glitches, cutoff, general screw-ups>
<Summary>
<Rating>
<OPTIONAL: Additional comments/snark>

One more thing, read the Readme for more information.

Version string:

1.X.X
1 <- will not change.
X <- major bug fix
X <- minor bug fix
No increments will occur if bug is extremely minor.

CHANGE LOG:

1.0.1: User friendliness in secret area of Plain Island 2 and Yoshi Coins in Plain Island 1 moved. Plain Island 4 redone. Minor bug fixed shortly after release.

1.0.2:
Pipes Star Road
fixed, Desert Land 4 made more easily possible. PLEASE RE-DOWNLOAD. Typo corrected and credits added to Readme shortly after release.

1.0.3: World Intermission glitch fixed, typo corrected in Readme.

1.0.4: Keyhole in Ocean Land 1 moved to fix bug where the game cycles through a bunch of palates, minor edit in Cliffside Land 3.

1.0.5: Forest Land 2 (?) has added Sprite Buoyancy, Forest Land 4 (?) Has been made possible without a cape, Forest Land 3 (???) has a secret exit accessible. Several edits were made at Sokobansolver's request.

1.0.6: A few sprites added to Plain Island 4.

1.0.7: Stuff changes, ya know?

1.1.0:Fixed a bug where you could not access
The 11th Star Road?
due to a glitch.
Unfortunately, this also means that the two people who downloaded that version need to restart their progress. Sorry. Added coins to
the top of #8 Bowser's Castle
.

1.2.0: Did a crapload of things.

Known Bugs:
World 6's Star Road
has a glitchy path after completion of the Star Road it's self.#smw{o_O?}

NEW: Screenshots!

Ignore the cutoff, it's better than the title screen would lead you to believe.

Just Mario jumping.

Mario riding a platform.

A secret area.

An idea that is never seen again.

Guess and check.

Fixed P-switch bottom.

For anyone who wants to beat this hack quick,
you can't. The Castle Star Road does not link to #8 Bowser's Castle on purpose. Mwahahahaha!

SMW hacking is dead. How much activity have you seen in the community? Next to none.

I'm out!
I've only played the first three levels so far, but I must say this hack could really improve. In the first level the dragon coins are placed in ways that make it impossible for you to not grab them and allot of the level can be passed by just running forward. Not mention it's extremely short. Another thing is the level is buggy. There are sprite memory issues, most noticeable around the midway point. There's a randomly placed pipe-dwelling Lakitu in the sky (I'm aware you placed the cloud under it to make it look like a non-moving Lakitu, but it's totally off-centered and just doesn't look that great). The moving pipe at the end disappears on beating the level, which leaves a cutoff pipe.
Now, the second level isn't that much better. The noteblock in the first screen has a very ugly red color. You should really fix that. The sublevel it leads to really needs to get fixed. First of all, Mario gets catapulted into a pit. The player really has noway of expecting that. Other issues are that the cloud tiles you used look more like decorations than anything (hence why I didn't attempt to land on them the first time), and I see noway of getting out of the sublevel. Now, the sublevel aside, the level is just so short that there really is no purpose to it at all. There were only two enemies in the whole level, and neither were used interestingly.
In Plain Island 3 it's almost impossible to make the first jump without dieing as the platform looks the same as the ones in background. The level lacks any enemies and that makes it really boring.
Overall this hack isn't all that great. The level design is really lacking. I'd suggest you should read APPALLED for some tips on designing levels.

e:just tried out both Plain Island 4 and 5 and they're both pretty much unbeatable. I doubt you playtested this hack.
e2: nevermind those crossed out points. Those blue question blocks can be grabbed. You should tell the player that as I had no way of knowing.
It being your first hack does not mean it should be or will be immune to criticism. And I'm not at all judging you, I'm only giving advice. It's not even like I can say my first hacks were better (consisted of blatant SMO ripping off + absolutely terrible ideas such as a level consisting entirely of noteblocks, etc).

DON'T JUDGE THE HACK ON THE FIRST WORLD. IT GETS BETTER.

But the first world is the first impression the player will have on hack. If they don't enjoy it, they most likely would not want to continue playing the hack.

I've played up to 2-1 as of this post. The dragon coin placement is still kinda weak at this point. The level isn't as flat or sparse as earlier ones, which is good, but it's still oddly short. Actually, the length of the levels in general could really use some improvement. The world 1 castle was at a pretty good length, but it had a really lopsided midway point. One thing I noticed about that level was how similar it was to Morton's castle in the original game. Some parts were easily recognizable as blatant edits, such as the last few screens of the tower section (the last of which had a blind jump into a falling spike. Just something I'd like to point out).

I'll try your updated version later.

I'm not denying that. It's just that I would wait until I've finished the hack to review it. Your criticism just seemed a little brutal in my eyes. I admit the hack is far far FAR from great. I just wasn't thinking clearly when I said those things. I'm going to edit and delete those posts because I see that I was being a jerk.

tl;dr: My judgment was clouded, and I apologize.

Also, what the heck is SMO?
first and foremost, how did Xinn get to double-post anyway?

i don't know what you did in that pipe, but that does look ugly and that oddly placed dragon coin.
My Inspiring Quotes on Personal Growth and Change:

"Resolved financial/personal problems equal greater growth!"

"The only constant thing in life is change; nothing is set in stone. The old is replaced with the new. Forgive yourself for past mistakes. When many different problems in your life are resolved (personal, financial, etc.), newfound strength and confidence is gained in the process. Usually, failures, lack of assertiveness, disappointments, incompetence, low self-esteem and lack of self-respect, financial struggles, and setbacks can cause us to change and take action to solve any problem, leading to increased strength and confidence. This you learn from experience.

I have been experiencing this aforementioned newfound strength and confidence myself for the past FOUR to EIGHT years or so, getting stronger with each passing year, learning with each mistake I make and becoming more joyful in the process. Because of this newfound confidence I've acquired over the years, finding my passion is of utmost importance in 2022! You can develop this strength and confidence in yourself as well!"

To whoever's reading this, you are amazing and you are capable of doing equally amazing things. Gather confidence and be yourself! Say goodbye to the old you and welcome the new you! It wants to arise every moment, but you don't let it. Learn from your mistakes and never make that mistake again! Find your passion and live it!"

Finding my passion in life, but I may still be active on SMWCentral from time to time. Still enjoy playing many hacks, but I'm widening my perspective on life and opening myself to the new.

Whoa. Don't know what happened there.
There actually was another post between, but I deleted it.

EDIT: It was the goomba, fixing now.

EDIT2: If you want that fixed, redownload.
lol dude don't even worry about it. I didn't think you were being a jerk. I understand that you put allot of effort into this and to have someone criticize it like I did is a little demeaning.

I guess it would've been proper to give a review of the hack when I completed, but that would've taken quite a long time considering this is a full length hack.

oh and SMO = Super Mario Odyssey. It's a really old hack and used to be quite popular. It's what got me and many others into SMW hacking.
A little backstory on this hack:

It all started when I was bored, and wanted to do random stuff with Lunar Magic. So I made a little over world, edited Vanilla Secret 2(level 1 in game data), and just played around with it. At this point it was "Super Custom World". Then I heard about SDW:TLC and played a little of it. I rage quit, and put more effort into it. It took form and, while still a hack by a n00b, took a form.

In several months, I had finally completed it, and posted it here.

So my hack is the result of months of work, and I might be a little protective of it. Either way, just some trivia.

EDIT: This is basically a sob story version of how this hack was made. I could have worded it better.
There has been no activity in this sub forum, which worries me. Are there really no hacks being of interest? Wow. Also, reply's would be appreciated. *eye twitch*

Probably because people mostly post in it to announce finished hacks or to comment on recently finished hacks, and there are far more hacks started than actually completed. And since this forum isn't exempt from the no bumping rule, options are pretty limited.

Ya know, I don't understand why it counts as "bumping" a thread after only 1 month. Why not 2?

EDIT: I think that SMW Central it's self is dying. Not much activity in general.
AARGH.

WHY ISN'T ANYONE REPLYING?

NOT EVEN CRITICISM?

I guess nobody has any interest in a full length hack.

Sad, isn't it?
I've only played the first world so far. Yes, you did say it gets better, but why not try to make the quality similar to later levels if you know you can do better?
I hope I'm not flogging a dead horse here cuz I kinda feel like I may be somewhat.

This looks familiar. Tho the rest of the level is changed completely.

Sprite memory issues.

Throw block spam doesn't look very good.

I don't get motion sickness but this level almost made me dizzy, plus it could count as fake difficulty. I am aware that screen scrolling was probably intended but this looked like a layer 2 level that uses objects as layer 2 rather than an image so my reflexes led me to doom.

Could use more decoration here.
There were also some minor things I didn't feel like pointing out.

I feel the same way about one of my Kaizo level videos. Well, it does have a handful of comments but the first one didn't appear until about a couple years after being uploaded and it was public the whole time and comments enabled during that time. Also, only one of the comments talks about the level itself, and the others are borderline spam. I feel as tho sometimes your closest friends can collectively conspire to avoid commenting on a specific work for some unknown reason.

Xinn pointed that out, rather rudely I might add.

That is actually NOT an edited Yoshi's Island 1. At the time it was probably a throwback or something. It's actually Vanilla Secret 2, and it used to have it's incredibly ugly pallet.

I'll fix that.

I'll get rid of what's above the pipe.

Sorry.#smw{._.}

Why didn't you press the P-switch?

Like the lack of sprites in Plain Island 4? Or the difficulty of #1 Plain Castle?

I fixed a typo for you.
Wow. That is definitely worse than the situation was.

Thanks for the list of errors in Plain Island, I'll fix them now(or however many I want to fix).

EDIT: Am I the Grim Reaper or something? Every thread I touch dies.
I have posted screenshots! :D

Anyway, if anyone is playing the hack please let me know what you think so far. #smw{;)}
I hate to double post but...

...What's it going to take to get you guys to post?

Are you even downloading? Does it really look that bad? Did I waste my time posting it here? Should I have kept it to myself?

Seriously.

Tell me what you think.

Please.

Sidenote: I don't want to sound like I'm sad or anything, I'm annoyed actually. People look, but don't post. It's really irritating and no one cares about what I'm saying anymore. Screw it. I'm just going to let this thread rot if everyone wants it to.

Goodbye.

EDIT: Let it rot it is, then.
Wah, I haven't been to this forum before, or I would have posted here! Generally people are here to take roms and play them, and then forget about them...
Wouldn't say I haven't done that...
New title screen, awesome! Just wish there were some vanilla fix for the "Demo" cutoffness, but oh well.

(wierd bonus game, it looks like the first switch palace...)
I saw at one point the cheep cheep bubble hit the slope and dissapear, and the goombas randomly teleporting/dissapearing, maybe you should use No More Sprite Tile Limitations (and SA-1) to fix them. A couple bubbles with nothing in them, and then did you mean for me to use L+R to glitch through those pipes? It's not very good to do that... Also, the growing/shrinking pipe at the end will cut off when you hit the goal point.

Plain Island 2, for some reason I could jump on the fish and kill it? It's also not good to have torpedo teds coming out of odd blocks like that, it creates some cutoff, and they come out of air if you destroy the turn blocks.

Plain island 3, for the pswitch part, I can just fly over with the cape, no problem there. Now if I could get my WiFi to stop disconnecting >.>
Oh yeah, if you take the pswitch through a pipe, you now have 2 switches which you can double-grab, but I did do the level legitimately.

For the Plain Forest (i think?) A diggin chuck floating just doesn't look good. And the star in the box dissapears with the moving platform... Anyway, Plain Castle. I can't beat it, I don't get what to do...

So far so good!

I barely have time to myself anymore, so I won't be very active on here anymore. I'm sorry.

Same here, but I'm going to deal with it.

I want the pipe to give you a way to the top of the goal post. I don't know what I could do. (besides getting rid of it)
Additionally, I really can't use xkas.

What fish?
I'll fix that in the next release.

Double grabbing is a pain. But okay.

Star in the box? Huh? I'll fix the Diggin' Chuck in the next release.

From how things in this thread have gone before, you'll probably get bored and abandon this thread. Also, it's Plain Island 5 (nitpick).
I'll grab some screens after I grab some Zs.
