Notable ROM Hacks. (Updated: 12/07/2014)

I've updated the list to include most of the hacks mentioned. I still need to add some of the other Sonic hacks and look at English1STUD's SMB3 hacks though.

I also went ahead and whipped out a disclaimer stating that what goes on other sites isn't our responsibility.
Another solution would be to host the Sonic hacks as bps or xdelta patches, like Romhacking.net is doing. These patch formats check for data insertions, deletions, and shifted data, so a patch won't contain the original ROM's code.
This hack was really funny.I'd put it on the notable hacks list.

That reminds me, I need to link this list when I next update the list. I'm thinking of putting up 3 SMRPG hacks to show on the first page itself.

I'll probably add Mario is a drug addict to the list along with Bob-omb Mafia, If anyone has other suggestions for SMRPG hacks then I would love to hear them.

Thanks, If I see any of the Sonic hacks I linked on Romhacking.net I will link them there and I'll probably get around to making them into BPS patches when I'll get enough time.
This hack

Well, needless to say about this MegaMan/Rockman hack, is very awesome and extremely difficult.

The best Megaman 1 hack(to date)
Have you considered including Rockman 4 Minus Infinity? It definitely seems like a hack that belongs on this list, judging from videos of it (such as this one). I'm not quite sure if it's actually complete yet, though-- all the levels exist, but some features still seem to be missing.

I'm thinking of updating this again, anyone got any more suggestions?

Well,no.And villyboiler, you said you were going to update the hack list in December 2012 and you STILL haven't updated it.
If you are going to update it,at least do it as soon as you can.

Er, it did get updated in December. I'm not sure what you are talking about.

EDIT: Would people be alright if I put a little one line ad for the SM64 section as well? Seeing as I've done the same with the Yoshi's Island hack list thread.
What?Oh god sorry I guess somehow I didn't notice*rubs eyes*

I noticed you didn't have any original Legend of Zelda hacks, so here's some.
Suggesting Another Super Mario Bros Wii, as well as the two Newer holiday specials. Maybe you could put it under NewerSMBW, because they are all made by the same crew.

I have to say, with all the Rockman (Mega Man) hacks out there, not this one? I'm slightly ashamed, it was one of the more unique hacks of Mega Man and arguably the best ever made. I suggest it should be one of Notable ROM Hacks.
Perfection is something that requires something that incompletes it. Perhaps it also breaks itself.

Requesting Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga+ v1.5 for this thread. Be warned, however, that this hack was made not to create a new game, but rather to rebalance the original.
I don't have a download link, but you can easily search for one on YouTube.
Thank you for making Outrageous Mario World the 11th most downloaded hack on the site!

Ham Sandwich progress: v1378 (Now with more arbitrary version numbering than ZGC!) Waiting to get around to working on it again.

I occasionally stream ROM hacks on Yoshi Lighthouse's Twitch account. Be sure to check it out!

Urgh.... I hate NSMB3 more than anything. The hack is a disappointment. I'll give you reasons if I can. Really.
Snake Block! Rattle rattle!
I'm going to check all the links and hopefully look for a few more hacks to the list. Is there any hacks mentioned in the thread that I missed that anyone likes to see added or any hacks not mentioned yet that people like to see on this list?
To be honest, there was a really cool Super Metroid hack out there, a kaizo version (not talking about the ''impossible hack'').
Would this one suit this topic?

If I happen to find it, I will sent you the link to the ips via PM if you don't mind, I have a good guess where to nab that. #w{=3}
For Pokemon hacks, what about Blaze Black 2 and Volt White 2 and Light Platinum?

I do remember writing something about only wanting complete re-design hacks to keep them notable, but then I remembered I added Hard as Kongcrete on this list so I must of abandoned that rule at some point, I'll add it in when I next get the opportunity.

I would agree here... oh right, you're hamza62240, I'm not sure if I should agree with you. Well, let me put reasons I think that apply here - insane difficulty, bad level design, memorization puzzles, secrets that are simply impossible to find without guide, invisible coin blocks spam, repetitive rooms, stupidly pointless mazes, bad difficulty curve, and the traps that belong to I Wanna Be The Guy.

I'm not sure even if I should link to examples, because this is just crazy. I'm just going to link to the original trailer (at 3:30, before that, it just shows barely modified level remakes). Anything that isn't directly copied from Nintendo is just crazy in New Super Mario Bros. 3. It's trailer for first version, but other than basic graphical enhancements, it barely changed in terms of level design.

Also, in case someone is interested, I also want to put a map of 5-B as evidence of stupidly pointless mazes (uploaded by author). Yes, the entire level is just stupidly pointless. And yep, there are two fake blocks, needed to access the secret exit. Or this maze that will exist in the next update of the hack. This is not a good hack. I'm still waiting for good NSMB ROM hack, but this is not even acceptable in my opinion.

Then again, NSMB3 is notable. It's very popular, somehow.
