Vanilla Twist! | World 6 stuff! (Back on track)

Standard

I finished this, and i will say that this hack got directly into my favorites. I like vanilla hacks and this just feels like an actual game. I'll be expecting more updates.
3901 POSTS!

Oh yeah, here's the cave I just finished today. This is the third level of the second world and so far the only one accomplished in it (slso sorry I can't video quality properly >_>).

And thanks a lot Aki! :D

(Oh, and before I forget, some useless trivia: the hack name originally didn't have the exclamation mark, but since I made the thread's title with it people seemed to assume it was actually part of the name, so I decided to keep it.)
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?
A couple things about your new level:

*It looks overcluttered with sprites, which not only increases the difficulty (which shouldn't be too high, you're still on W2 and the hack didn't start off difficult) but also detracts attention from the Bullet Bill shooters, which should be the main attraction.

*Red Koopa jumping seems rather out of place, and honestly it's a bad technique to include it in a hack at all.

*Your level is very, very linear, and while that doesn't mean that you should start including branching paths and such (which I highly discourage) this is the perfect level to include a couple bonus sublevels. You've got all of those pipes, so it seems like a perfect match to me.

I'll be glad to keep seeing this plod along!
Thanks Egadd!

I actually agree with you and am taking in consideration what you said. I've removed a bunch of sprites that I found not very necessary and the level feels kinda easier now. I'm currently adding up two bonus rooms, each one for each of the seconds. However, updates in this level will be only seen when I release the demo (I wouldn't make another video for the same level).

Yeah, The cave looks really great. Nice addition of the over-looking bullet bill shooter. The design is what matter after all.
Thanks again Aki!

<_<

Guess what my 4k is going to be about. >_>

First room for second castle. Yeah, the next area is going to be completely underwater. What do you think?

BTW, that low turn block before that bunch of coins above the water does have a P-switch, but only if you collect two yoshi coins first though. Hooray for being able to code custom blocks! \o/

EDIT: oh and yeah, I made that so red switch blocks will have a flower inside.

Nicely done Koopster. Just some average level design although the first half of that level seems to be repetitive in certain places. May just be me though.
Thanks Everest! But because I'm a pretty confusing person, I'm going to redesign that castle, because I figured I have a water world; so if I'm going to do something with that level part it's to move it to there.

Well, with no further ado, WELCOME TO MY 4000TH P-

Err, I mean...

I've finished level 1 at world 2. It's been actually some days it's done, but only today I got the chance to record it (I also added the bonus room today).

Watch me. I'm open to criticism, like always! #thp{^_^}

Very nice job with the scrolling pipes. It's not in every hack you see good use of them, they're fitting very well with the all level. Good luck with your future progress too.
Nice level though you would want to be careful on where you place the piranha plants as placing them on screen-scrolling pipes will be suicide on certain cases.
Nice best level! A Piranha Plant SMB3 ExGFX looks really good! Can't wait next demo! I watched the video is amazing! #ab{8-)}
Amazing layout by JackTheSpades
...You would already guess where this post was going to happen.

Well, I don't have too many things to show this time, but I've recently finished the second level of world 2 (which means I'm only 3
and a switch palace
levels far from the demo 2!). Here is the video.

And if you are too lazy prefer, there are some screenshoots instead!

And as a Milestone Bonus™, there's a picture of what I have on the submap for world 4's part 2!

I'm not very satisfied with it, I'm probably going to tweak it a lot before it's final. If you want to give me some suggestions on how can I improve, I'd appreciate it a lot!

And that's all for today! #smw{:peace:}

You see, I had just finished Demo World when I designed this level. :P I agree some are pretty tricky though, so I'll have a look at them. Thanks!

Happy 4k Koopster!

The underwater level seems decent enough, it is hard to design interesting underwater levels. Nice job with the simplistic submap as well.
Decent water level you got there Koopster! I agree with everest it's not easy making an underwater level as I am doing it now....!

Can't wait for an another demo of this hack! Btw love the cave map design!
Hi Koopster.

I have played this hack for once (the latest demo), and it's no doubt one of the best hacks ever made. The gameplay is pretty nice, the level design is fresh, and the whole concept on it is also pretty decent. The only issue I have on it, and it may be just me:

Is that in this part, the music (Yoshi's Island - Athletics) for me looks unfitting. No need to change it, though, it's good as it is.

As for your updates:

Nice use of the screen scrolling pipes. It's not everyday that we see people using those type of pipes in non-Kaizo hacks.

The underwater level also looks decent. I've seen so many levels of this type (non-Kaizo), and this one is so far the most well designed I have ever seen. There are no issues on it, though. The world 4 submap also looks well done, like any overworld in this hack.

Nice job on this hack so far, can't wait to see more! #ab{:)}
Windowless ride, feeling alive
Are you alive or just breathing?
Oh man! Fully played this again~! Whenever i want to play something vanilla-ish, I play your hack (Which is almost always)

Yeah, like I told you via IRC days ago, I had already changed that track there. Again like I told you, that was kind of an accident I left it there lol.

Also thanks!

Oh, that makes me so happy. :3 Thanks for the support guys.

In other news, I've finished the ghost house in the cave. No video this time because hey, ghost houses are puzzles, and if I showed you guys how to beat it (even if it's very simple) it would be too much spoilering the next demo. C'mon, I'm showing the full playthrough of all levels now. >_>

Oh no, overworld spoilers.

Planning on doing some changes on this message, by the way. So I can tell it's a puzzle and stuff.

Yeah this looks the same as the original mini rooms.

Won't tell how I got here, of course. ;)

Yeah, and that's it for now. Nothing too much, but any kind of feedback is appreciated!
The water level is fine, but I personally think that some more sprite variety would be good for, and the obstacles look a bit too repetitive.

Again, some sprite variety would be nice in the ghost house - all that's shown on the screens are Boos and Boo Buddies. It's bit hard to talk about it from the screens, though, mostly because it's a puzzle level. Nice job here~
The OW looks as amazing as always.

The ghost house though, looks a bit flat and I don't know if I like the fact, that the mini room looks the same as in the original game #w{:s}

Thanks for the feedback!

Now that I look at it, the ghost house really has no height variation... I guess it has to do with the way I based it on doors. :< I'm going to see what I can do though, and thanks for making me notice that!

As for the water level, Rex, the reason it has not much fish variation is because I'm only willing to show the other fish in latter levels. I don't see the obstacles being that much repetitive, but I guess I see what you mean.

Also Jack, that's the best there is for an one-screen room with vanilla graphics lol.

I'll be working on the next levels soon, and once I'm done with them, the next demo will be up, so stay tuned! ;D
