Cutscenes, Script & Plot

Kipernal's? Not sure what your screen settings are, but I can tell the colors apart just fine.

Either way, great job on the cutscene. I'm seriously impressed with how fluid you made the movements look.

I need a polished and completed version of the Doc Croc scene in this cutscene fpr the Epic trailer.

It doesn't have to be the Final Product, but at least make it look like the Final Product.

With these, we need proper graphics for Doc Croc, and to replace all the default SMW graphics used in the cutscene.

It looks pretty good so far. I think the only real complaint I have about it so far is that Mario should look up at him while he's flying away, then proceed to walk off afterwards.

Alright; I'll add that in.

It's shaping up quite nicely, although I think it's a bit too fast as far as the text goes. See what the others think about it, though I figured I'd bring it up still.

The only other option is to halve the text speed, and the general concensus was that it was too slow then. If people have changed their minds since then, I can change it back.

Thanks. Most of the smooth movements like that are mathmatical functions so that I didn't have to generate a huge table of x and y values. Though this means that any actor's movement that can't be easily put into a formula is...going to be tricky to do.

Your link colour is way too subtle, I didn't notice that there even was one the first two times I read it and it took me a while to find it when I really started looking.

Better?

So yeah, third cutscene done. Considering Truntec is just a tree, I think I had way too much fun with this one. Or maybe it's because it's just a tree, so I could basically do whatever I wanted, I dunno. Either way, Truntec, a tree, is officially the second most complicated actor in the game in terms of lines of code (the fish from the first cutscene comes right after). Make of that what you will.

Incidentally, if Truntec's font is too hard to read, please let me know. Even better, if Truntec's font is too hard to read, give me a better one.

Now, if you'll excuse me, the new Mario & Luigi game has been sitting on my 3DS taunting me since Wednesday at 11:00 A.M., and if I don't get a chance to play it soon Bad Things are going to happen. To my sanity.

*twitch*
I should get a new layout.

Probably won't, though.

Haha, I gotta say that was pretty good. While the text it a bit annoying to read, it actually fits pretty well imo. Great job man.

You'd think by now someone would have volunteered, but...

Get me the concept art and all frames you want redrawn, and I'll see what I can do. I'll be sort of low on time over the next couple of weeks, though, so I can't promise when I'll see what I can do. (Then again, when it comes to free time I'm relatively well off - what I call "low on time" may actually be the standard for some - so eh.)

Great job on that cutscene, by the way, and kudos for still working on it despite your generally decreased activity.
Functions, huh? That would explain the smoothness. Makes it all the cooler though.

Alright, I have a little suggestion; it'd be good idea to make Mario say something such as "Let's -a go!", "That's -a so nice!" or whatever I come up with.
No. We're keeping Mario silent for the duration of this hack.

Er, the what now--oh, it's that Deedle-Ball from the egg incident. And...uh... you have a nose n--oops, I mean

According to the script, Mario only speak in single line.
Forgot about that, we're probably not keeping it.

And the joke around that line is the fact that Mario isn't supposed to speak, so AnybodyAgrees' point still stands.

It was discussed while back that the line in question was going to be removed in the final version

No, this is not a "generic" no/low-content question.

"Why" is never a low content question.

I do ask the same question. I actually like that joke, and we should actually keep it. Otherwise it wouldn't be as funny.
Just so you know, I'm very active on the site anymore like I was before; I'm mainly on Discord now.

It the time everyone felt it seemed to weird to have Mario talking. If the common consensus is to now keep it in, I have no problem with that either way.

The only reason I'm opposed to it is I'm not sure we'd ever get someone to animate Mario going to the motions of mimicking the Deedle Ball... Well, okay, I'm also kinda on the "I'm not sure it's worth Mario breaking one of his most defining traits for a joke" boat, but eh.

Actually, on that note, I was kind of tempted to borrow some Mario & Luigi graphics as placeholders to we could have a much more expressive Mario (right now he just sorta stands there all the time because I can't draw him doing anything better), but with foop gone I figured they'd never get properly redrawn. If someone would be willing to step up to that kind of a challenge, I'd absolutely go back and reanimate Mario with that in mind.

Were there any other changes to the script that I missed or should know about?

I think the only concept art we have for Doc Croc (as far as I know he and Norveg are the only things that need animated) are here and here. At least that's all I could dig up. Rameau's script seems to portray him a a bit more sympathetic than the art depicts him, though, but maybe that's just me (I kinda see him as malintentioned, but polite at least. Not quite a "I'm just doing it so Norveg will fund my projects" level of neutrality, but also not the same kitten-stomping level of evil that Norveg displays. Probably more the former than the latter, though some sort of evil would probably be on the agenda even without Norgeg around. ...at this point I'm just rambling. At any rate that's how I animated him in the second cutscene--it was the basis of his "perturbed" pose).

Either way, here's the Doc's general-use graphics, and here's the version he uses in the first cutscene's commercial (it's mostly duplicate tiles, with the exception of the "facing the camera" frames, which are only used in that one scene). Draw them however you want, use as many or as few tiles, palettes, frames, etc. as you need. Bonus points if each can fit into one ExGFX file just for space reasons, though it's no big deal if it can't be helped. You basically have any freedoms you need (I do technically need a palette spared for Mario and the "Press A" prompt, but I'm guessing that's not going to be an issue).

So far, Doc Croc has the following actions that need animated (I'm putting this here since I don't trust my graphics to convey the ideas well enough)

Walking, standing, pointing to Mario, standing with his arms outstretched, looking at something away from the camera (I have him looking at a clipboard, you can do whatever you want), and holding onto his propeller hat, talking (which can be added to walking and standing), and talking while looking confused/worried/perturbed. Then for the first cutscene he can also be facing the camera with his arms outstretched (and talking).

Thanks again for doing this, by the way, I really appreciate it (and I'm sure I'm not the only one).

And, uh, actual cutscene tomorrow, hopefully--just wanted to get my two cents out there before then.
I should get a new layout.

Probably won't, though.
I also think Mario shouldn't talk. It's not really worth the shock of going the entire hack not talking to all of the sudden make a throwaway joke like that (I think I've raised my concerns about the deedle ball itself before). But then, I'm not particularly keen on the idea of cut scenes that involve talking in Mario games anyways so...
I think Mario suddenly talking would work as a secret joke. What I DON'T like in the current line is how he seems to realize he slipped up and immediately falls back upon his inbred interpretive dance abilities.
It ruins the joke because it almost seems to "explain" it.

I say we should just revert that lone part of the script to RN's original where both characters talk in complete sentences.
Check out my music!
"Oh man," asked no one, including me, "how are we going to get italics working in the cutscenes?! This is the most pressing issue this hack has ever faced!" To which I just lazily implement a third font that's the same as the first but with everything shifted to the left every three pixels down. Custom fonts will solve all our problems!

So, uh, in terms of something actually relevant, here's the next cutscene. Not a whole lot to say about this one, it's pretty simple. The only graphics I added to the boss's files were some speaking frames for the dryad's face, and there's no background or foreground because, as far as I know, the boss's arena hasn't been built yet. Yeeeeeeup.

Will I actually be able to get a second cutscene done this weekend? Tune in text time to find out! Spoilers:
Probably not. These things are time consuming...

I actually made a boss room months ago that was supposed to be sent in with cstutor when he finished the thing, but for some reason, it was never inserted.
