[W1] Athletic Cave

Link Thread Closed
Yeah, I'm working on a athletic cave-styled level. Progress will be slow because SMBX hates me, but it shouldn't take more than one week :>

I'm not using a lot of layers or anything, I'll just use it for moving coins and platforms, I don't feel that using complicated layer stuff is needed (at least in this level).

[no screens for now, might update this post later]

(Most of the sprites's GFX is still wip btw)
Even in games like these, You can make them look beautiful, Keep it up as always!
So far it's looking amazing - tile & background object placement is done very well. Your level looks promising - keep up the good work!
This, so far, is a pretty good level.

The anestitics are great - there are a lot of details and decoration but it doesn't feel cluttered nor does it destract - it provides a very nice atmosphere to the level (as does the song you've chosen - very nice choice). One thing I will say though is that I found it odd that you included the SMW Layer 2 Cave Background thing you see in some levels - I don't think it fits in too well, I think you should remove that.

The level design is also pretty good. You've got some pretty good dragon coin locations, nice enemy placement, and overall it's a pretty nice level. I will say though, I do think you should maybe move the last Ninji in the demo more block to the right (I found him slightly annoying to jump over), and, in the pit you have to Spin Jump into, with the Spinies and the last dragon coin in the demo, I think you should make it so that you can't kick the Spring Board into the pit - otherwise, that'd make the pit a forced death.

Overall, I can't wait to see what else you have in store PurpleRex.

(also, quick question: how do you take screenshots in game in SMBX?)

What I've played so far is great. I really like the atmosphere, and your use of platforms and enemies is very skillful. The only issue I noticed is that the Grinder on the octagon near the end of the level (what you have so far, that is) seems to vanish periodically. Other than that, good stuff.

Personally, I use the Print Screen button and paste it into MS Paint. I proceed to edit it there, but maybe others have a different strategy?

Will update post with review later.

F12 during playing, screenshots will be found on the screenshots folder.
From what I see in this demo, the level design is spot-on. The music and aesthetics are great, too. I can't wait to see the finished product!
I'm close to finishing the level, but SMBX hates me so it'll probably take some time to complete the level.
I'll try to get the final demo soon though.
I've found some time to play your level (but I forgot to post here) and I really enjoyed it. Your level design, the music and the graphics used in there were a really choice, even for a demo, I liked it so much.

Waiting for your final version.
Level complete, yay!

It's a bit shorter than what I expected it to be, but it's not that bad, I guess.
And like always, you didn't dissapoint! Very good aesthetics, and I also like the gameplay. The music you choose sounds pretty amazing and is also fitting to the level.

However, I think this level is just too... Simple. There's only one room where you follow your way ahead. I'm not saying the level design is plain, because it isn't, but I think a few distinct rooms, or at the very least one single bonus room, would be a good plus.

That's all I can complain about. Awesome job overall!
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?

It might be pretty simple but honestly it might fit as an early game athletic level, maybe suitable for the later half of the first world.

Early Game

There's not really much to say about this, except for that it looks really nice and it's easy. Good job!
