*C3 ROPEBOX FEATURED CONTENT*

I've made some updates.. and I was trying to count how many featured threads there were by CTRL F'ing "*C3 ROPEBOX FEATURED CONTENT*", I forgot that this would double my count. Right now, we've got 29 featured threads, out of a total 136 C3 event threads, that's 21%, which is a good featuring ratio. Before, I was mistaken and was gravely concerned that we had featured 42% of all threads, eheh.

I'd like to request J.U.M.P. Collab Preview Booth to be featured, since that hack just needs to have attention.

(rip my other userbars momentarily)

I'd like to second Piky on nominating SuperSkye: The Legacy by weegeeben to be featured. Not only was it made by a dear friend of mine but it's one of my favorite demos that's been shown so far, I've been following its WIP thread for a while by now and I just finished playing the demo this morning. It's unique, it has great graphics, and its level design is great as well. And also it's just too goddamn underrated. I don't know why its getting no love but it really deserves it. (Just make sure you play the right one, wb submitted an earlier version that had some mistakes so play the one with the long "right one" message in the title. I think most of his links link to it.) This is the hack download if anyone wants to play it. Also check WB's threads.

And also, I'd like to suggest Deeke's Aether thread, which is showcasing mainly graphics for his upcoming hack. Check it out, it's REALLY good. Nothing to download but the thread is here.
A duck's quack does not echo, and no one knows why.
I am a little late but the Hack 2 contest has finished and when Hack 2 is in the featured ropebox, it still mentions the contest which is now over. I feel that it is a little misleading. You could at least edit it to say that the contest is over.
i'd like to nominate Carld923's C3 Thread
He makes really good graphics but he isn't know very well, I think his thread deserves more attention :P
I'd like to nominate Superwiidude's The Variety of chance. It's a really great and long demo, and you can clearly see that he put much effort in it. It's also very fun to play and it looks good.

A good short but sweet. Its style is getting unique and its smoothness is unbelievable. I agree that could be featured.
Quite surprised MaxodeX's music hasn't been indicated yet, those are really good quality ports.

Also yay, my thread is in the ropebox! Thanks to Max and Xim for indicating it! :D
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?
>My port of lovegame isn't featured yet

I'd nominate a booth but I just don't really know what to nominate.

I didn't see anyone nominate my Kaizo hack, and yet I see it listed in the OP.

Indeed, I personally saw that it was a good quality hack, and thought that it needed extra attention, especially since most of SMWC isn't really exposed to decent Kaizo much, and because no one cared to moderate it. In general though, I have seen a few Kaizo-foreigners post in a few threads at least checking out the videos, which is good.

There really isn't enough evidence for me to tell if SuperSkye should be featured or not. The screenshots show some intense graphical clashing, there's no gameplay video, there are posts from relatively unknown users who 'do' praise it's gameplay, but only two "I'll check it out" posts from users who've been around the central longer. I'm not saying that you need to have lots of posts in order to be trustworthy, but for me, it's a quick and fast indicator that can be taken at face value, without any risk of a personal bias (just as you say here that you're this person's friend). I recommend having a few other people take a look at it and post their thoughts in the thread. That alone could bring the hack more attention.

I've made my other updates to this thread.

EDIT: Wow, seriously, how did Jimmy's thread slip by me so many times? I think it was because he said "Also nice to see my thread getting some love ^^;", and I assumed it was more "hooray for featured content" stuff and I thought I had already featured it.

Well it looks like we had a good run with this feature, I'm really glad to hear how popular and well-received it was. I tried to take care to balance nominations, fairness, and acknowledgement of criticism for things like this in the past, along with a balance between attracting attention to less-popular threads or users and featuring those who are already popular but are well-known for their reliably high-quality work.

If there's anything you'd like to comment on regarding this feature, if you want to see this done again in the future, or if we should have something like this be an ongoing regular website feature, feel free to PM me or other staff.

EDIT: ...actually, why close this thread? Forum is kept open for a reason.

I definately think it should stay as an ongoing feature; linking to the WIP section or the full hack releases section! I've saw some hacks that are overlooked, so it would be nice to help them get attention!

Yeah, same here. It could also link to (recently submitted?) graphics/music/ASM stuff, imo.
I have looked into this thread a little more and I will now offer my views on this. The way C3 threads have been featured could be better. I have got to say that this thread really reminds me of the old "Featured Hacks thread". This thread here seemed literally like a simple "lets feature this hack because it has a lot of effort put into it and it is good" without going into a detailed explanation. Here are some quotes where I am not going to refer to specific users because it may seem like I am singling them out (you can go back through the posts if you insist on finding out who posted it):

I nominate Kaizo Island then.

Please do Sicari! It's soooo fun ~

Gloomy Star's hack thread too!

Note: I am not criticizing why the threads above have actually been featured, I am just saying my argument in general terms that applies to all released content.

Now before you go and say "read the replies of that thread", I still believe giving a detailed explanation here is important (especially if it is a hack). While some people actually played the released hacks, a lot of people have simply looked at the screenshots and said "Wow!". I do realize moderators actually go and look at the threads and see for themselves and I am fine with that but when it comes to regular users, they must state why it deserves to be featured in a detailed way both here and there.

With non-hack related content, things are different but the concept I am suggesting still applies. All users have to do is simply give a detailed paragraph about why it should be featured and not a simple sentence. Yes, I am guilty of doing this myself but I have realized what I have done and I will be sure to improve for the next time. I am not saying everyone did this but quite a few people did simply provide a simple sentence.

Now with attention, that is a completely different matter. All attention to a thread must be fair. New or old, there must be a reason why your thread must get attention which links to the above saying. I do believe new users (and lesser known users) should be given a fair bit more attention as we may not know what they have in store for us.

To summarize what I have said above: A lot of replies to threads this C3 say that this is a good looking project of yours without going into specific details. I do therefore believe a detailed explanation must be given when requesting something to be in the featured ropebox. I do say that keeping the forum open for posting is a good idea to improve upon the replies as I an see some people are doing that.

Now about the ropebox itself, I think is is actually a good idea to keep around every now and then.

Update: Clarified the information posted here by PM. Do not respond tot this or the other post.
I want to vote for Alex No's Hack Super Mario 2D Land! He has a Great Hack!
That hack should win the whole C3!!

Everest: I can see your point, but don't forget that the moderators actually did take a look at what's nominated here before it's actually nominated. Well, or at least they should have, but most, if not all, contents that are in the nominations list were really decent (I can't say anything about my own hack though 8> ), so I'm going to assume it worked out fine. And I'm pretty sure stuff that looked bad in the first sight wouldn't be in this list anyway, so yeah.

I'm also for the ropebox idea, it would be good to call people's attention to play new hacks and to use new resources, I guess. #ab{8-)}
It's easily the best thing I've done

I am well aware that the content featured deserves to be featured; I just do not want this feature to become like the old featured hacks thread (and people called that system of featuring hacks "sloppy" and were going to have a better system).
