Mario's Dream: The Fallen Star - C3 Very Short Release

Hi everyone and welcome to my C3 hack thread! (I'm also surprised it got featured)

I didn't want to release my hack in the status it is right now, because it's still short and I haven't work much on it, but for some reason I changed my mind and decided to release, oh well, let's see again the storyline and screenshots of the project.

Storyline
In Mario's dream, he saw from a window of his house a light shining at every night on the top of a mountain. Then in a day he decided to go climb this mountain and discover what's this light (I kinda spoiled it with the hack title, but whatever) that appears every night.

And now, some screenshots:

Those were the irrelevants, you may like more those in the spoiler ahead.

Again, I'm sorry for the lack of time I had to make this hack, I'd really like to do something longer, but didn't happen, so I hope you still like this very, very short demo, or not, it's up to you. That's all, have fun... or not. :V

Not really a huge download link. (third update)

Blame Grav for the "Asami presents" I put in my hack.
This looks amazing, SP. You've got a lot of promising content here, and I'll be sure to play this. I hope you finish this!
Awesome stuff ShadowPhoenix,looking forward the completion of this hack. Yes you should complete it!
Man, this is one of the best "short but sweet" hacks I've seen recently. I enjoyed a lot beta testing this, despite some few (and very minor) issues. Echoing my PM to you: "you've made small modifications that, together, make the gameplay original and interesting. I can't see any problems with the ambiances (graphics, palettes, etc.) as well. Cool, ShadowPhoenix!" I'm looking forward to seeing this complete someday! #ab{:D}

ddd This looks great. I really love the atmospheres you've created in those levels. It seems to be nicely designed as well, especially the level design in the lava cave looks great. I'll have to play this one as well.

Good job on this.

Great work you have here. Your level design is good and the graphics are excellent. Some suggestions are below (each correspond to the screenshots from left to right):

Suggestion 1: Wow, everyone seems to use this foreground tileset lately. Not a bad thing although I hope you find some good graphics to replace the default SMW underground ones if you are planning to include different graphics to maintain consistency.

Suggestion 2: No note block SFX other than a faint bump (I presume you are using different samples so eh...)?

Suggestion 3: Be very careful when placing Blarrgs on short straight lava; it seems strange to dive into nothing #ab{^_^}.

By no means I am forcing you to take my advice but this is my views. Short but sweet here. I am also not a fan of the HP system but that is just me. Good luck and keep working.

btw keep "Asami Presents"

Hi ShadowPhoenix I'm here on your thread.

I'm going to look forward on your hack, as this looks promising for me. Loving the choice of the graphics there. :>

Hope you keep this up!!
You're not the one that calls yourself a bad hacker, are you? Because that wouldn't make sense. Your levels look really great; I liked the athmosphere in each of them. The storyline may be simple, but it can be very interesting depending on the way you develop it. The graphics are pretty consistent too, some were kept as they're originally and some were edited. It's always good to see some graphically half-therm hacks around. :3

The thing I didn't like though is the question blocks. I always found that animation kinda weird. :/ Also I don't think that low-saturated palette is very fitting. That's up to you, however.

Overall you're doing a great job, I hope to see more from you. Don't think you're a bad hacker, because you aren't! ;D
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?
Thanks everyone for the comments! :o

It's still a good graphic, and with minimal modifications it can't be too overused.

It's supposed to be similar or exactly like SMB3's one.

Haven't see that lol, it's fixed now.

Anyway, I decided to make another version of the demo, I fixed some minimal issues and the music used in the second level. You can check the updated link in the first post or go here if your laziness don't let you to.

Decided to make easier to get in this part, lol

The hack is compatible with all major emulators. Criticism/feedback is always appreciated, I think.

I agree.

That aside, I like the way you made the terrain in those screenshots. Although I'd advise you to put a few more enemies in your levels since they look a bit empty. Also, I can see you're still using that HP/MP system.

I've played some of your stuff before, and I know you're a good hacker, so I'm sure this will be one good hack.
Well, what you have so far certainly looks good. I don't know if I've seen this hack before or not, but in any case, I'm curious to see how it will go. I'm especially intrigued by the HP and MP counter...that will be interesting to see put to good use. I'd always thought those RPG elements like that were kind of cool in hacks.

I'm working on a hack! Check it out here. Progress: 64/95 levels.
Didn't expect you to release this for C3. It does look good so far, and I like the atmosphere in the levels. You also implemented the MP/HP system, which isn't something we see everyday. Definitely going to play this soon as well.
Windowless ride, feeling alive
Are you alive or just breathing?
Woa, seems like a cool project so far. Graphic style is nice and level design is smooth and enjoyable.
Played and finished this kawaii hack. Even if it's too dammit short why!? °A° a little bit short, I really enjoyed it: levels were made in such a lovely way, and the level design itself was never boring.
Good work Asami-Chan!#thp{;)}
Very nice! #ab{^_^} I just played the hack, and I really enjoyed those two levels. Palettes and graphics choices are alse superb. Definitely a "short but sweet" category, but it might be much better than just that when you finish it one day. #ab{:)}
Hi there, I'm updating the IPS... again! :V

  • Fixed a typo I noticed in the name of the first level, I wrote "beings" instead "begins" but now it's fixed.
  • Moose's music is awesome and I wanted to use them... hi Moose.

And that should be all, sorry for updating the IPS too much. I'm also very glad you liked the hack! :3
I just played this and I have to say: Awesome work. The graphics, music and level design combines pretty well togehter. Your hack has lot of potential for future. The only downside I found was this and I think the time of first level is a bit low. Or maybe it's just me, I haven't played any hack recently #smw{-_-;}

Short but sweet indeed, and the subtle modifications to enemy interaction and the status bar are interesting, too. You're off to a good start here, so keep at it :b

First: thanks for the note, I'll appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. (lol)
Second: I agree with almost everybody who posted in this thread, this is a really good job. Looking forward for the next release.
Third: nothing important. *runs*
Bye.
