Super Mario 64 - Year of the Plumber C3 Demo

Super Mario 64: Year of the Plumber C3 Demo

Trailer

Hello everyone! this is my first time participating in a C3 event as well as my first time releasing a hack.

This is a game I been working on way back in 2010. It was originally called Maestro Mario 64 around YouTube and the Jul forum before I found this site.

Despite the amount of time I been working on this hack I was only able to complete two levels before the release of Importer 1.8 (Well... the two levels that i'm satisfied with. I actually made a few more like New Nimbus Quarry which will be made in the later demo.)

------------

This is a short but sweet hack which mainly focus on music, visual, and fun gameplay!
This hack may be consider "vanilla" in term of asm modding and custom behaviors.

Great custom musics, backgrounds, and textures all fit in right for the level's theme.

Great level design which is made to be fun, challenging and exploitable but fair.

The "Stay-in-Level warping system" (I'm not sure what to call it). This is a clever trick I been using for a while, where as if you were to get a star or lose a life you remain in the same level as if it was like a hub. This make for faster and more fluid gameplay rather then constantly going in and out of the same level like in the original SM64.

A giant roulette wheel as a starter bonus stage... yeah...

Some interesting and funny dialogs. There quite alot reading in this hack. I'm not sure if that a positive thing but many hours went into dialogs.

------------

This is still a ongoing project and I still have a ways to go. But now I finally can get share some of it.

I'll to like the thank everyone who has supported and followed with the making of the hack. It been way too long...

I hope you enjoy!

------------

NOTE: This only been tested on Project 64 1.6!

Ah man, this demo is awesome. I absolutely love your hack, I've just played though a bit of Fractus Fields and I have just been blown away with just the scape of the level, It's massive. Combining that with just how awesome the levels look and sound, and it just wonderful to play.

I'll update my reply if I finish your whole Demo but right now I just have to say that I love it.
Bumping this to the top because Meltfire's work is spectacular and deserves to be seen. Keep on chugging with SM64!
Oh wow. I can't test it myself atm, but this looks super amazing so far.
Layout by Counterfeit.

this hack looks fun~
I'll go play this one #w{=D}
Did you extend the level boundaries? I didn't think that the original levels could be that big!

Anyway, I've noticed a couple of things that may need to be fixed:
1.There is a floating tree behind the hill with the goombas right before the curved bridge.
2.The timer for Koopa the Quick doesn't disappear after you collect his star as well.
3.The music is kind of loud in Fractus Fields, I could barely hear Mario!
4.Somehow I ran right through the warp portal to Fractus Fields, it may only work on the right side, but I'm not sure.

Great work though!
OMG IT'S A SIGNATURE!!!

Wow I would of never saw that floating tree there. Good part is 1, 3, 4, can easily be fix. However the timer display can't disappear.

This also happen in the original SM64 but everything reset after you warp out of level after collecting a star. But the warps in this game is made to keep you in the same level so it don't reset.

There also gonna change be some small changes on the next update some time this week (Before I resume working on the full game.)

- New star counter hud
- Faster KtQ
- Improve wall jumping camera
- Skip mario intro screen
- Improve dialogs.
- Textures Improvement (Hopefully)

The downside is the star counter hud completely replace Lukitu Camera View. The Mario Camera View only usable. Hopefully many want mind this change.

Later down the road

Sunset Square
Lavender Lighthouse

Then the full game.
