Lunar Legends - Demo 2/C3 Demo

Lunar Legends is a hack I'm working on. It's a banana with sugar sprinkles (no, not really, I don't really like the vanilla/chocolate/choconilla hacks thing) hack. It's kind of based on the original SMW, but it is not vanilla, I also use some custom blocks/sprites that I think that fit.

-------------

Second demo of Lunar Legends, with 8 new levels (half of W4 + secret levels added to the other worlds).

Yeah. It has way less new stuff than I originally planned, but I'm posting it anyway.

I already played it and I have to say congratz to you, Sexie, for this hack. This is the kind of balanced hack I was looking for.
Doesn't lack decoration. Doesn't have too much decoration.
Music style is consistent.
Graphical and decoration style are consistent.
Everything is solid and consistent there. It's the big combo of creative choconilla and professionalism I was looking for.

Again, congratz!
Judging from the screens, the hack seems awesome! I rarely play demo hacks, but this one will be an exception.#thp{=D}
Great, I will play this later when I have time.
I think it's time for me to check this out in-game. Downloading.

I already know it's going to be an awesome experience, so here's an early "Good job, PurpleSRex! #ab{^_^}"
Thanks for the feedback~

By the way, I'll probably update this thread tomorrow with some screens of a side-hack I'm working on. :3
Great Work here Purple Rex. #smw{} I love the graphical style and the music in this hack, especially in Caramel Hills 1 and Cerulean Clouds 3. Gameplay was mostly great.

My only gripe with this is Cerulean Clouds 1. The pillars that the enemies could stand on but Mario couldn't constantly tricked me into death and proved misleading.
It could also be that I'm playing like a complete idiot today....

Any-whatever, excellent work, can't wait to see more from this hack. #smw{;)}
Thanks! Also yeah, I guess it could be misleading, so I added the pillar with the ninji earlier in the level, for the player to notice that only enemies can stand on the pillars.
I guess it wasn't exactly a good idea though, I'll see what I can do about that~
THOSE PALETTES! (✦´ ᗢ `✦)
Your hack should definitely be the best work in this style vanilla C3. I follow your work from demo #1, and really everything was much better since then.

However, I will not play your demo. I'll wait for the finished work. I want to see everything at once :D

Based on the screenshots that I've seen you post, this looks like a gorgeous hack. I love your use of palettes and your creative use of GFX as ExGFX. You've also mixed in other elements that fit in well with SMW's basic aesthetic. I've always thought of SMW as a "12-bit" game. This looks like a 12-bit game with a gorgeous makeover; Mario if it were on a Genesis or Turbografx 16. Those are compliments even if they don't sound like it. Anyway, this is going on my to-play list. Keep up the good work!

[?] Miscellaneous Helpful Hints
If I moderated your hack, there was apparently a 90 percent chance it was rejected.
I remember having a great time playing the first demo and my opinion hasn't changed with this one. I don't know much about level design, but you really did an excellent job: the levels never look empty or plain, and the enemies are well placed, thus giving a good amount of challenge. Also, some palettes are really beautiful (Watermelon Woods and Cerulean Heaven 2 in particular); I love those delicate colours.
Great job!
The first thing I noticed when I started to play through this hack is the lack of dialogues of any kind. That differs this hack from the usual ones: instead of focus on plot, this hack seems to be solely for level design and aesthetics. I love it!

The graphics are not disappointing either; everything is made out of something present in the original game. The title "Lunar" Legends sounds good with that aspect. Not to mention the awesomeness of your paletting skills.

The only weak point for me is the overworld. I guess you could've worked harder at it.

Really, great job. I'm looking forward to this hack and hope to see more of it soon! :3
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?
Again, thanks a lot for the feedback!

@Koopster: Yeah, that was my intention on this, focusing on the level design (and the aesthetics too, but mostly the design :P)

Also yeah, the overworld definitely could be better, but I'm horrible at OW editing, to be honest .-. I guess I'll have to redo it (again D:) for the final version...
Those screenshots look very tempting, but if this is a four-world demo, I might just wait for the full version. It's just that I like the "level sampler" approach better, because then I don't have to worry about playing the same game more than once in the same level order.

Still, keep at it, because this looks pretty promising (:

I remember moderating the first demo of this hack, and I really liked it. Those screenshots look very appealing too, not only the visuals look appealing, but you also have different kind of terrain and level design (net climbing, line guided platforms), keep up the good work.

I have already covered Lunar Legends in my C3 LP Spree... and I loved it. I've come to realize that hacks like this one are my faves since they don't require you to use an overload of custom resources and are still some of the best looking.

The fourth world's visuals were like nothing I recall seeing, and they look fresh, though I was at first confused with what I could or could not stand on.

The levels were easy, but this is coming from a guy who has been playing Luigi's Adventure 3 OSE savestateless (inside levels anyway) as fast as he possibly can. This is more than likely aimed at a more casual and relaxed player. And yeah, these aesthetics look very bright and cheery, while mine lean towards being darker, though they pull great inspiration from hacks like this.
