Snes9X Issues

Okay, well, I was using Snes9x 1.51 on my old computer because neither 1.52 not 1.53 would work properly (1.53 wouldn't open at all, not even an error message, and 1.52 gave an error when loading a ROM and would only load the audio, not the video). Only 1.51 ran without problems. Recently, I got a new computer, and now, on Snes9x 1.51, the audio has an annoying crackle that it didn't have before.

So, I try 1.53 to see if the sound still crackles or not. After all, it's a new computer, and it might actually run this time, right? Nope. It refuses to open and gives me this error:

"The program can't start because d3dx9_38.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

Now, I hear that simply installing the latest DirectX runtime fixes this, it's just that I'm afraid that this will fix Snes9x but break some other game or emulator that I use. Should I be worried about that? According to dxdiag, I have DirectX 11.

My operating system is Windows 7 64-bit, with an Intel Core i3-2120 CPU, and Intel HD integrated graphics. I have Realtek High Definition on-board audio.

You can just install DirectX 9 alongside 11. The two don't conflict.

Really? But then, how does Snes9x know which one to use? For that matter, how would any of my programs know which one to use?

I'm not 100% sure, but application that uses directX is designed for one specific version. I don't know much about DirectX, so anyone else correct me if I'm wrong. I run them alongside each other and I haven't ran into any issues. But then again, I'm not that much of a PC gamer.

I'd suggest you do some reseach about it.

e: The two versions use seperate libaries stored in seperate locations. There shouldn't be any issues at all.

I installed DirectX 9 runtime components and now Snes9x 1.53 works! Thanks a lot!

I have kind of an unrelated question, though. In the video settings for Snes9x 1.53, there's an option to switch between the 8:7 aspect ratio and the 4:3 aspect ratio. What I hear is that 8:7 is the SNES's internal aspect ratio, but when you hook the SNES up to a standard CRT TV, the image is scaled to 4:3. Now, in Snes9x, when you set it to 4:3, it stretches the image horizontally to fit the ratio. Is this what a real SNES does, or does a real SNES zoom in on the picture instead of stretching it? Just curious is all.
