General SMBX Help Thread

Thank you MarioFan22.:D
So it's my first time using SMBX, I have figured out most of the basics, but I am wondering, is there any way to actually change the palettes of the tiles in editor?

Download Paint.NET and open the .GIF files in that. You can change the colours of the blocks, backgrounds and NPCs using this program. In SMBX this is called recolouring.

This tutorial may help too.

Now, does it have to be Paint.NET? Could I use Infranview, or Photoshop?

I just use GIMP. I make a PNG in Paint and I use GIMP to export the PNG to a GIF when I'm done.

Okay, last question, with inserting a custom BG into SMBX, I made the GIF and put it in the proper folder 'n such. However, when viewed in editor, there are small black lines and small black dots... how can I fix this?

Where are the Munchers?

Can you not have Munchers in Super Mario Bros. X?

There's the SMB3 muncher in [blocks] -> [hurts] if it's enough.
Thanks. I was looking for the Super Mario World one, and I was looking in those appropriate sections in blocks and NPCs. I guess I didn't see the "hurts" tab in the Super Mario Bros. 3 blocks. I was looking for the Super Mario World Muncher, so that's what got me confused. Who knew that it would be a block? I thought it would make more sense for it to be an NPC. Well, Munchers are blocks in Lunar Magic as well, so....
I can probably edit it to act like the Super Mario World one. Thanks.

In this case, get the muncher!
O.K., first of all, can you make and submit battle levels for this project? I'm trying to make a custom battle level for Battle Mode, and I need help with something.
I'm trying to make it so that when a player jumps on , a bunch of Super Mario World Goombas will appear (hide , show Goombas). 30 seconds after they're killed (no more objects in the Goombas' layer), reappears because it's a generator (hide Goombas, show ). Then you would be able to jump on again and the Goombas would come again. This would keep going in an infinite loop, the Goombas would keep coming back every time is pressed. But since the Goombas are dead, I would need them to reappear, like, while their layer is hidden or something. I don't know how I would be able to make a one-time generator like this or something that would give me the intended result. Can anyone help me?

I really hate how when the skull switches (or any NPC for that matter) despawn it counts as an NPC death though, rendering them useless for event-triggered generators.
so question.

so I saw a custom background(or foreground/tile) that was a rain effect. Is there one made that's a Sandstorm instead of rain?
How do you customize Parakoopa jump height in Super Mario Bros. X? In Lunar Magic, it's dependent on the Parakoopa's Y position, but in Super Mario Bros. X, all of the Parakoopas jump the same height no matter where they are and I can't seem to find a way to change their jump height.

Also, how do you enable Layer Priority in Super Mario Bros. X? You know, when the player and NPCs go behind backgrounds and scenery. How do you do that in Super Mario Bros. X?

At the Paragoomba and Parakoopa NPC by jumping there is no way you can change the height.

There are some background objects that are more into the background (example: SMB3 black exit) and other that is more into the foreground (example: SMB bridge backgrounds and dark blue checkpoint and goal).
Hey, when I try to place a Jumpin' Piranha Plant inside a pipe as you would in Lunar Magic, it doesn't seem to place. If I place the Jumpin' Piranha Plant first and then the pipe, the pipe won't place. How are you supposed to place Jumpin' Piranha Plants in Super Mario Bros. X?

Also, are the physics of Jumpin' Piranha Plants in Super Mario Bros. X different from Super Mario World? If so, what's different?

1. Place the Piranha Plant above the pipe.

2. I don't notice any difference in their physics.
Do you know how, in Super Mario World, if you approach a slope from below, you'll just pass through the slope block entirely, but if you jump, you'll be on the slope?

I can't seem to replicate that in Super Mario Bros. X. All of the slope blocks seem to be completely solid, acting like a solid ceiling that can't be passed through from below.

How do you make pass-through slopes in Super Mario Bros. X? I need slopes according to the first paragraph above for the level that I'm making.
