13B: awakening (Phase 4: Depression) - 2dareduck

Complete

Done testing and found some errors and some nitpicks of mine.

3 things for the price of 1: The Mushroom and Fairy Palettes are terrible (As you didn't add any coins or ? blocks or anything else), The messages are iffy, and the palette of the foreground is bad.

Here's a couple palettes for the FG I whipped up:

It's hard to pull off, but you can go through the wall here. Also, why do the fairies hurt you when you don't spin jump on them or stomp them?

This part is almost impossible to do without hitting a fairy.

...And how am I supposed to get through here without hitting a fairy?

Other than that, it's quite good. However, there's a lack of coins, ? blocks, and the main thing: Enemies. Anyways, keep up the good work. #smw{:TUP:}
Just so you know, I'm very active on the site anymore like I was before; I'm mainly on Discord now.
Well the lack of ? Blocks, coins and enemies is part of the gimmick. It's supposed to feel empty and barren, to go along with the depression theme.
I no longer have interest in SMW Hacking as I did when I first started several years ago.

Oh, is that so? I see. But it feels kinda bland without coins and ? blocks.

BTW, which palette do you like that I whipped up?

I like the purple tinged one.

FP, you have a lot on your plate already, I wouldn't add another level to the mix.

Anyways 2dareduck, as far as I've played, the level is a much better start the other times I've seen. There seems to be a lack of power-ups in this stage as well as some other decorations. It is desolation but what about already used blocks or grey cement blocks? Those don't have anything in them and they can add to the decoration. The palette is okay for me, maybe more drab grey than what is there already, but the coins look strange, that does need to be fixed.

Jumps wise, Screen 2's jump from 2 very steep hills are quite a challenge for just the beginning of the sublevel. Maybe make it not so hilly and the 4 fairies above it just are a little too much in a crowded area. Screen 5's double fairy should be reduced to 1 on the top platform - it does seem like there's too many things up there.

Other than that, good so far for me.

Agreed, mushroom is bad but it's because i didn't us the global palette. Will fix. Fairy is fine imo.

Noted.

I'll add more decorations that are appropriate. I'll also redo the palettes.

i like the second one but i want the colors inverted and more darker.
That's pretty much saying you want the palette to stay the same. I think...

Well I'm quite capable to finishing this level on my own. Your palettes are great but not what i imagined.

Keep doing what you are doing 2dd. Everything looks fine on my end palette-wise

As for the level idea I like where it is going and how it keeps getting darker the more fairies you hit. I can't wait to see how you end this level.

Update plz?

Since i had to redo the palette it messed up the text boxes. Everything else was fixed. Will have working level this week.
Here's your update.

Note i'm using level mode 1E(for aesthetic purposes) and therefor you can't see the messages. Does anyone know a way around this.
There might be a way around that problem 2dareduck with a little ASM creating the transparency. Not sure though if it will affect that L3 text box though.

As far as the level is concerned, I think the length is about right because there's a lot more text in this section and a lot more waiting than in other sections. The decorations are better this time around. Most of the problems I think were fixed except for that 1st jump on Screen 2 with the two big hills. I don't think the problem was so much landing the jump but more starting the jump. If other people don't have as much of a problem with it, I'm okay with it but it seems really challenging to do for just the first real jump in the stage.

The jump listed above is a bit hard to pull off, other than that I think it works out pretty well. I did happen to find a bit of a glitch though. At the end, If I fall off the screen with the wall spring board directly above me, I reappear on the springboard at the top of the screen. Not sure of that is normal SMW issue, but it should be looked at

Help with the asm would be greatly appreciated. It's not a priority now though.
I'll redesign that jump.

@Lightvayne.
Yeah that glitch happens in the original smw. I'll block the pit so the player won't fall off.

Just so you are aware I extended that deadline to this Sunday, the 30th.

I know you don't have much left to do, so just sent the files my way when you are done.

This post concerns your level. You may want to look into fixing that before handing it over.

Why are you tossing an ASM bug at a level designer?
