Welcome!
Here are stored various links to people's personal showoff threads and soundtrack projects. Be sure to check out everyone's threads/ports/compositions as much as possible and give everyone a chance!

In addition, you can post your own SPCs here too, just don't forget to comment on stuff posted by others as well if possible (this is important!).

Also, feel free to make a post here if there's a thread/sountrack you wish for us to link to (I'll do my best trying to update them on sight though).

edit: I'm not a music moderator but to quell any confusion, it is a good idea to link the song you are porting so people can distinguish an alternate arrangement or remix from the original and give advice best geared towards what you're trying to recreate. This is not required, but if you feel your song is obscure enough that people are going to misidentify it, show them what it is. -Counterfeit

Sounds promising so far, although some instruments are a bit detuned, like the timpani sample which is bit sharp I think. At 1:48~ channel #2 sounds terribly off, not sure whether it's denuted or just plays wrong notes (or both). Anyway, I'd suggest using some echo, for best effect you can pick the values from some KSS song too. Also are you considering getting some horns during the intro or something similar, like in the original?

Originally posted by some loli

Hah good job there. SMW envelopes are pretty lulzy, but you pulled it off pretty well I think. Just don't forget to move around some channels to avoid major cutoff (i.e. move #5 to either #6 or #7) and you're set.

Figured I'd post something of my own as well: rather wip.

That is, Mario's time Machine has actually some pretty good kick and snare samples.

Oh, that sounds nice! Only thing I could say something negative about would be that the part after ~0:25 is a bit empty. Btw, did you use Samples from Chrono Trigger?

New Port!
I just tried to port the first time... Well this is hat came out:

I made a Video of it, too:

I know that there are still a lot of things to be improved, but I still wanted to show this to you... #w{=D}

Oh wow, that FIR filter... would you mind changing it so it's not so KCKDSKFHKCKSHDHCKSKCH?

Other than that, I think this is an excellent port. I love the @2 effects you did, they sound great, and that bass is very funky. Nice job with the chords too! :B

I'm quite curious as to why this is a popular "first port" song, haha. Anyways, this is not bad at all for a first port! I would suggest you try to make your own MIDIs in a program like Noteworthy Composer or FL Studio (demo is free, and gets the job done), then use TinyMM to port them. Alternatively, you can type directly in the TXT using a program like AMPlayer to quickly preview the song as you update it. (AddMusicK quickly exports SPCs too)

Regarding the port itself, the melody sounds pretty accurate, and the bass sounds accurate too. The song sounds very empty without the rest of the missing voices, unfortunately. While it's forgivable that this is on SNES, there is still much potential to utilize the remaining 6 channels on the hardware. You could add drums too (Closest thing to a timpani you can get with default SMW instruments is @12 on a low octave like o3). Personally, I think making MIDIs helps improve people faster+more efficiently, so I hope you consider trying that out too. Either way, good luck, and I hope you decide to make more stuff in the future! :)

Haha, this sounds amazing, but way, WAY too loud! I needed to lower the volume of the SPC700 Player to 25%, everything seems perfect though, just don't use such high volumes next time :P

Also yay, SD3 samples, they need some love too!

Adding to what CrispyYoshi said, it seems to cutoff early, so the whole melody doesn't play. Since there are only two channels, it's safe to assume that channel #1 is the one causing this, so adding a [r1]100 at the end will fix the cut.

==========================================================

Something I've been working on for the last days.

I loved the original so here's a port of it, with samples from Rudra no Hihou, Tales of Phantasia, Final Fantasy 6 and other two games with weird names :P

Any feedback is appreciated!
Thanks you for your feedback! #w{=)} By now I tried out to port some other Songs and this is one of the things I got:

http://bin.smwcentral.net/u/20871/MarsGrenade.spc

I hope this is a bit better than my first try? #w{=P}

@MasterLink That sounds great really! Would be perfect for a final Castle or something like that in my opinion...

@Darius
Yeah, change the FIR filter and volume because it gets too loud. Also, some samples are out of tune. But other than that its pretty good. :D

@Neidave
Sounds like it needs more, but Its not bad. I don't know the original either so.. I cant help too much.

Mario Kart 64 - Rainbow Road

I saw Darius's port and decided to try it myself. (Dunno why I haven't before.)
Though his is probable more suitable for a hack since mine uses so much ARAM space. ARAM.. why you so small? D:

Of course yours is much better #w{=D}

You used the original samples, it sounds very close. Also, I didn't implement all effects like the Pitch Slide at 1:02.

Also, I'm really surprised how you could make a so high-quality port in only 2 days! I wouldn't have the motivation to do this. #w{=P}
lol thx.
Yeah, when I'm really bored and have nothing to do, stuff like this happens. lol.

Mario Kart 64 - Rainbow Road (8-bit)

Both Darius' and ggamer's ports (and a very butchered FamiTracker version) made me want to do this.

also 900 woo

EDIT: Not commenting on ggamer's on here since he's already had my comments on the IRC.

Okay now everyone makes his Version of this #w{=D}
(And all better than mine)

I like it pretty much and I love the Bass- and Snaredrum Samples! But I must say, #1 is a bit too loud for my flavour. #w{=3}
That's very interesting... but there are very little chords in yours where even the off-beats have chords in the original.

It's nice, but it would've been even cooler with percs.

Now then, here's my newest! I'm using it in my hack... eventually.

Dragonfly: This sounds pretty cool. It's got a serene feeling, but my only complaint is how the @1 and @0 mix together when the @1s come in, it becomes kind of messy.

Snake Man.

I think I'm addicted to Megaman 7 samples.
@Grav I'm seriously digging that port. The MM7 samples really do make it awesome. The addition of background chords at the beginning really add a new level to the original. Great work.

@Grav I see what you mean! I HEAR what you mean, rather.

@Moose, this sounds very tedius, like I'm trying to creep past some guards or as to not set off some kind of old trap on this ship. The percs kind of broke that mood though. :B

Well done.

Legend of Zelda -Oracle of Seasons/Ages Overworld March

this thing took me over half a day just to move notes around and shave off little bits and pieces... as well ass adding little bits and pieces so tracks would line up enough so they wouldn't sound like mud. After 12 hours I gave up, but I like the sound of it! Here's to hoping y'all will too.

Don't give up! #w{=P} Sounds nice except of the thing you already mentoined. The Instrument Choice is very cool and interesting, it has it own style and doesn't refer to the Original.

FF6 - Decisive Battle

I always wanted to port this and yesterday, I started work on it. It's not the best you could do but I'm glad about how it turned out. (Sadly, I had to decrease the Echo Feedback).
Originally posted by Grav

Not really a fan of the intro, it sounds kinda loud compared with the melody after that. Though I have to admit that the rest sounds surprisingly good, specially since I don't like MM7 samples at all. The slides are really well made, by the way! Aside of that, I don't have any complaints.

Originally posted by Moose

This sounds quite familiar, and I like it a lot, specially those smooth slides, though I have to agree with Dragonfly about the percussion, maybe because the noise is too loud. Otherwise, neat port, as always.

Haha, I love this tune, it's quite nostalgic to me, and the port... well, it isn't completely bad, is just that the @7 doesn't really fit in my opinion, you seem to have some broken triplets too, I suggest you to fix them (with curly braces {}).

Originally posted by Darius

Amazing! You're missing some volume changes but it still sounds really accurate, so good job! Also:

I think you mean echo delay, right? Because there's a way of having more samples and still have room in the ARAM for a bit more delay, it won't work on every single port, but it's worth of trying. Just insert this as a new sample group:

#optimized2
{
"optimized/00 SMW @0.brr"!
"optimized/01 SMW @1.brr"!
"optimized/02 SMW @2.brr"!
"optimized/03 SMW @3.brr"!
"optimized/04 SMW @4.brr"!
"optimized/06 SMW @22.brr"!
"optimized/07 SMW @5.brr"!
"optimized/08 SMW @6.brr"!
"optimized/0A SMW @9.brr"!
"optimized/0B SMW @10.brr"!
"optimized/0C SMW @13.brr"!
"optimized/0E SMW @29.brr"!
"optimized/12 SMW @15.brr"!
}

And use that instead of #optimized. It deletes some original samples, so if you're going to use them in your port, you need to load them manually or you'll end up having glitched samples.

=================================================

Well, I guess I'm going to show my most recent port, is a song that other people tried to sample but failed horribly since they used 757's port as a base; in this one, I made everything by ear.

Romacing SaGa 2 - Last Battle.

Yup, that one.

I don't know Nurykabe, but this track is really nice! It sounds very professional, and you did a good job with the port (especially the drums starting at 0:46).

I love the original track, so I also like this port. However I agree with Masterlink - there are some broken triplets and the slap bass' staccato is a bit too strong (I'd also try to lower an octave). I suggest you to continue it sooner or later, because it could be improved a lot :)

Awesome! Sounds almost exactly as the original even if the feedback is lower.

Amazing =D I absolutely love that theme, it's one of my favourites from the SaGa series. The port is very accurate.

Secret of Evermore - Tinker Tinderbox
Nothing too difficult, aside from the nasty gain values and those quick notes in channel #2.
