13B: awakening (Phase 4: Depression) - 2dareduck

Complete

That could sure work, this level seems to be a pain to complete, so I'd love to hear what Daizo thinks.
My idea was that you are taken to the present day but moved sideways in time on what if Mario and Luigi never existed. I was thinking that this phase could be taking place at The Mushroom Kingdom but this time its called the Koopa Kingdom because Bowser has taken over the land. Because of this, Norveg would ether be captured, killed or doesn't know about the Koopa Kingdom.

Because Mario can't alter this "time zone" he is in, he can't be seen or touched by anything living or otherwise he will be turned into sand. Maybe in the beginning of the phase, the Dreamer would tell Mario on what not to do (a long sample song with vocals or a text message)

How you escape this time zone... haven't planed that far. So I guess I'm collaborating with a person again. Wish me luck, and what do you guys think of my idea?

I'm perfectly fine with both of you working on it.
Please try to keep up with the weekly update requirement. With 2 of you working on it, it shouldn't be a huge issue

Make me proud. :P

It's been a week, you got anything to show yet?

We are currently still planning the level. I believe OHN started the level, but I'm not sure because he has been inactive for 3 days, but he is back now so yeah.

In the mean time, we need someone to code us an instant death code that makes it so every enemy in the level kills you instantly. If you really want to, when Mario dies, make him turn into a pile of dust when he dies.

As Daizo Said, we're still in the planning phase and yes, I have been inactive for three days because of an important school presentation (Got an A-, yay) and tests. Some progress will be shown soon.

What.

He means that if you touch any sort of living thing, such as a koopa, maybe even a toad, you'll die (and maybe even fall apart in a pile of dust or sand), because you are in a sideway time zone (Back to the future reference I think #ab{:P}) and you are not supposed to interact with life there.
I know what he meant.

Your previous comment suggested otherwise.
It's more like "Why would you do such a thing!", because while it's nice, ambitious and thematic, you need to think of it from a player's perspective. It sounds like the level is going to be ridiculously hard with the instant death mechanic in place, so I hope you have at least thought through it well.

Oh
CRAP
NO!

What the hell. NO. What are you two planning? Even then, HELL NO!

I'm sorry if I sound brash, but this is an incredibly bad idea.

Other than suicide, what in the world does this has to do with sadness? This is also just a short and quick section. This is not a full-on level.

Scrap that instant death thing. We're asking for fun not incredible tedium.

This was originally "oh hell no", but then I realized one of the level designers is oh hell no, so I just changed it to "oh fuck no". Then I changed it to "oh crap no"
To those who are complaining about this idea, we highly suggest you trust us. There is going to be a warning that you can't touch anything living in the beginning of the phase. Sure, it doesn't have to do with sadness, but Mario is in a time where Mario shouldn't exist.

It sort of makes sense, because Mario never existed in that particular time. Besides, the level isn't going to be cramped with fake hits like you all are thinking; the difficulty is from being careful and figuring out what to do, while at the same time seeing the depressing scenery.

Just wait until you play it with the code is inserted. If it does turn out horribly, we'll remove it and restart the level with a different idea.

On the other hand, I actually like this "Don't touch anything alive" idea. It feels like you're just a wandering ghost, what's sad.

I'll give it a try before judging.

...okay...so, you got a section of a level that's supposed to be based on sadness, and you're trying to do a gimmick that has absolutely nothing to do with sadness?

...I'm confused. Is that even okay? Doesn't it break the theming of the entire level if you just ignore the theme in favor of this gimmick with a different theme? :/

I do not care. It is a stupid and horrendous idea. A mundane sign alleviates nothing.

Scrap the idea. I do not care.

Are you kidding me?
We didn't even make the level and you guys are already giving harsh feedback.

We understand that the theme is sadness, and it is going to be sad. The gimmick is meant to add challenge into the level. Besides, we are going with cstutor's idea which is in the first post.

I might as well speak with Lightvayne about this issue and see if he actually agrees or not. If no, we will scrap the idea for good.

How about if you stop speculating and start designing the level, even without the insta kill levelASM, ok?
Then we can all decide if avoiding standing toads is beyond kaizo dificuly, or not forming part of your own life not being related to sadnes.

BTW, punk sarcophagus, you take complaining too dramatically, seriously, it's unnecesary -_-', and puts more atention on the arguing than into the actual problem's solving.
Your layout has been removed.

Sorry, I would of responded to the sooner but had a wedding to go to yesterday.

I kinda agree with the others on this one to a point. There is something about it that just doesn't say "Sadness" or "Depression" to me. I get the idea you are trying to go for, but I don't think you are going about it the right way. An instant kill for touching something is going a bit too far imo and I feel that could be handled differently.

I would like to see a short demo of what you had in mind though before I say anything about scrapping the idea. If it's done correctly, something like this may work out

I agree with everyone about the complaining. Punk, you shouldn't make drama just because of a choosen theme that some people don't agree with, it's really stupid, to say the least. At least cool down a bit. And don't start anything like that from this point on.

DDV, I like this idea. Maybe I'll give it a try when the demo is ready.
