The .spc Showoff thread 3.0 [read first post]

Sounds great, Grav! The only complains I have is that the vibrato of the distortion guitars should be much more strong, and that you should try using $FA $05 like I suggested last time.

The port otherwise is sweet!

Exactly Grav, use GAIN next time..
lol its a good port otherwise.

Redid this for AMK:
Asterix and Obelix - Story

But these are just small nitpicks, great work on the port overall!

Excellent! I love the fact that you're making so many A&O ports. This one sounds epic, too! Not sure where could this fit into an SMW hack, though (maybe an epic cutscene or credits?), but maybe I'll find a good use for it, too.

Next time, you should rather upload an .spc file instead of an .sp2 file #ab{:P} It's not a big deal, though.
Also, I'm not familiar with the original, but it doesn't sound bad for a first port! I hear some dissonance in channels #2 and #3 though, and why doesn't it loop? Also, maybe you should lower the volume a bit. But just keep it up, and you'll become much better! #ab{;)}

Oh boy, I don't even remember when was the last time I made a "better" port. Well, here's my first AMK test, I think it turned out pretty good (and sounds pretty close to the original):

Heisei Shin Onigashima - Enemies (SPC only)
SPC + TXT

Made with NintSPC, due to my lazy ass. I think it'd make a good boss battle theme.
Comments?
Thanks for you feedback, Hadron!

Eh, I had two other SPC files that were crappy ports from The Legend of the Mystical Ninja (Oedo Town and Yamato Town, to be specific) (and this one is my REAL first port), and I was too lazy to delete them and rip this one again. #ab{:P}

Channel #4 is actually making dissonance to #2 and #3 (if you're talking about somewhere about 16 seconds). I'm trying to figure out a way to fix that. They're all on-key, though (I checked). Nope, that's not the reason, but I fixed it.

It does loop.

My ears are not too well when it comes to volume (I DO get used to loud noises #ab{:P}), but I'll try to lower it in a way that suits you. No wonder why. My volume in SNES SPC700 Player was set all the way to 25% (I have some very strong-ass headsets, that's why).
Stupid me.

Sounds pretty cool, Hadron! I find it interesting how "deep" the echo sounds despite being only at $02. I should figure that trick out and try it someday.

I've got something too, of course.
not for the soundtrack project (WIP)
Check out my music!
@Moose: Heh! That's actually a pretty well done! I love that pseudo orchestra hit at the beginning.

Blake Reary and Lollievox - Dance With Me (WIP)
Yes, almost every original sample was deleted. I was too lazy to use BRRs so I used bnk.
Any feedback?
Moose, I love the bass in that E.V.O. port you made! I'm rather surprised I remember that track from the one time I played the game in 2007. Not sure what else I can say besides doing a great job re-arranging the track. Sounds pretty much solid to me. ;)

Luigi, I really like the percussion in your... 2 measure loop. I'd appreciate if you showed off larger SPC demos, but regardless this was a nice little thing to enjoy.

I should mention, though, that the electric piano chords don't really work well without a bassline, which I think you should add to this song.
Any MSPA readers out there? (yes)

Presenting: Megalovania.

For those who were not aware, the song was originally part of an Earthbound hack, which makes it possible to port with a high degree of accuracy.

Anyway I've got a rather stupid amount of other Homestuck ports that I'm waiting for the AddmusicK rules to submit. This one's my favourite, though. Blame this douchebag for inspiring me to get back into the whole music hacking thing.

We are terribly sorry, but the intertubes are clogged, and we were unable to find the page you were looking for.
Whoops, fixed.

Really love Hadron's Port! #w{=D}

@MrCheeze: I dunno the song, but it sounds good! But the Distortion Guitar brakes the the Feeling for me. Maybe it's just too powerful.

Now, something I wanna show:

La-Mulana - Mr. Explorer

I got fascinated by those Romancing Saga Samples and tried them out at this song. I think it's okay. #w{=P}

I know I must add an Intro Command, but I'm too lazy at the moment, sry.

OHGFHIJFDOGJFD YOU BEAT ME TO IT!!

It has some octave errors, and in some parts it sounds rather awkward. Also, @17 isn't really good for the overdriven guitar, I'd use a sample from Mega Man X1 or DKC. Otherwise, this is really cool :D

The hihats are too subtle imo, and the bass is tuned off by a lot, making the entire song's chords inaccurate (and dissonant). Also, the song crashes on echo re-write. The song loops too early too, so make sure that the longest channel becomes your shortest one by adding a bunch of rests like [r1]99 at the end of all the other channels.

Overall, it's not too bad. The trumpet works nicely here, and the strings are pretty awesome too. If you're using AddMusicM/K, I would suggest adding portamento to the strings with $F4 $01. Just remember to use $F4 $01 to turn it off, or put it before the / to prevent different results after the loop.

EDIT: whoops, forgot to mention that the trumpet vibrato is too fast too. It should be delayed a bit longer, too.
DKC has a guitar sample? If you meant DKC2, I tried that one and the results were not good. Haven't looked into the Mega Man one though. And Darius, in the original song everything is Earthbound samples except that guitar which is an actual recording, so I tried to distinguish it. Probably did go too far with it though.

EDIT: X1 guitar breaks up at high pitches. :/ It does sound fine to me with the @17 just a little quiter, though.

YUSH

This one is a very slow desert-ish piece that I think fits greatly in a more "dark" Desert Overworld (or would fit if I was any good... >_>). Part of the main Uldum theme from WoW.

I personally don't think I did a very good job in the accuracy department (but only because the original theme is so complex :P), but this was the first time I used ADSR and Vibrato commands in an spc. :D

Uldum

Original (0:00-0:53)
Thicket Area (Original Composition)

A work-in-progress thing for a SUPER SEKRIT hack I'm making (it has to do with spiders). The distortion guitar sound is a placeholder, and will be replaced with a choir sample.

EDIT: Made it better. Replaced guitar sound with flute sound and did some panning adjustments.

I think it sounds pretty nice. Though, I would either replace the @2 with something else, or use a higher octave. Other than that, I liked where you going with it for the most part. Nice job.

Now then, would you like to comment on mine that's right above you? :D

Your SPC sounds pretty good. Certainly fits the dark desert setting you described.
